Serra Makes Quick Work of the Cavers
On a beautiful day at the Serra Softball Complex, the Lady Q's got things going with four runs in the 1st inning and never looked back as they downed the Lady Cavers of San Diego High School 12-1. Sam Gotfredson picks up the win scattering four hits and allowing only one run in 5 innings of work. She goes to 1-0 on the season. Senior third baseman Isela Mohr led the offensive charge going 4 for 4 with a double and 2 triples, 2 runs scored and 5 RBI. Sophomore catcher Jessica Olafsen chipped in with 2 hits and 2 runs scored.
The win moves the Lady Q's to 3-0 and a date in the semifinals on Saturday, March 15 vs. OLP at 11:15 am at the Serra Softball Complex. The other semi-final game will feature fellow Eastern League representative Christian Patriots vs. Mt. Miguel Matadors.
Serra takes care of Vikings.
It was an uphill battle, but the Lady Conquistadors perservered on the road to win a tough 6-2 ball game at La Jolla High School on Monday afternoon. After La Jolla jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, the Lady Q's got things rolling in the 4th. Bridget Cannan reached on an error with one out and Lexie Ryan followed with a walk. Then, Texas newcomer Bianca Aguilar hit an RBI single to score Cannan and knot the game at 1-1. Renelde Foiles followed with a sacrifice bunt and with the help of a Viking error, they were able to go up 2-1. Leandra Williams followed with an RBI groundout to score Aguilar to put the Lady Q's ahead 3-1.
The Vikings added a run in the 5th, but the Lady Q's came roaring back and put up 3 insurance runs in the 7th with the help of an Ashlyn Olivarez RBI single and a Lexie Ryan sacrifice fly. Olivarez finished the day going 3-4 with an RBI, run scored and stolen base. Lexie Ryan went 1-2 with a walk and RBI to help her own cause as she moves to 2-0 on the season. Ryan also finished with 10 strikeouts and scattered 3 Viking hits on the day.
The Q's go to 2-0 following Friday's 8-6 victory over the Mt. Miguel Matadors.
