    Team History

Girls Travel Soccer Team, Angels was born on November 1, 2003 when 13 girls(mainly from Perry Hall, MD) got together for the first practice.

Exactly two weeks(and two practices)later, Angels played their first official game at the Fallston Cup Tournament against Towsontowne and lost 0-2. During the next game(against Hickory FG)Angels scored their first goal and next day they earned their first ever victory against Fallston All Stars, 5-0.

The first League game the Angels played in February 2004 at Winter Indoor League at Perring Athletic Club against Cockesville. Angels won that game 11-1.
The first Outdoor League game the Angels played in March 2004 at CMSA Spring League against Fallston and won 3-2.

The first game outside of Maryland Angels played at Philadelphia Youth Soccer Tournament during Memorial Day weekend of 2004 against Phila Soccer Club and lost 1-7.

The Angels won their first trophy on March 27, 2004 after winning the game against the strong Baltimore Bays team at Perring Indoor League with the score 6-4.

In August of 2004 Angels have found a new home in Rosedale. The Angels were representing Rosedale Rec during the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Fall travel seasons.

In the October of 2005 first player from Hawthorne Middle River Rec. have joined Angels and other HMR players came on board in 2006.

During the week of June 17th of 2007 first time in team's history Angels were ranked- #23 in MD, #122 in Region 1 and # 248 in the US

In June of 2007 Angels have merged with Greater Baltimore Soccer Club.
Unfortunately, merger did not went as smooth as it was expected. After 4 years, 140 games, 73 wins and 50 defeats Angels played their last game on November 10th 2007...

    Games to remember

Angels have played a lot of games since November 1 2003. We’ve won some and lost some. There were games that the Angels are proud off regardless the outcome and there were games that we are not so proud off.

    I. The Top 5 games Angels should be proud off:

    # 1. March, 20 2004 Perring Indoor League Angels- 8 Baltimore Bays- 3

Angels took the field knowing that only a win over the very strong Baltimore Bays team will allow them to play the League Championship game against ….well, Baltimore Bays.

Angels started strong and did not leave Bays any chances. While Bays were successfully marking the Angels best goalscorer, the rest of the Angels were scoring goal after goal. With less than a minute left in the game Angels had 8-1 lead and pulled their foot off the pedal allowing Bays to score 2 more goals…

    # 2. March, 26 2005 Perring Indoor League Angels- 8 Fallston Freedom- 4

Fallston Freedom (today- BSC Freedom) is 1 year younger then Angels. Freedom is well coached and one of the best teams in MD in their age bracket.
Angels were playing against Freedom a few weeks earlier and lost 4-6. At the day of the second meeting, Division Championship title and place in the League Final were on the stake.

Due to Spring break both teams were missing players. However, if Freedom was missing 3 (including their best at that time player) - Angels had only 6 players to play with. 6 other players, including 4 out of 7 regular starters (goalkeeper, both fullbacks and forward) were out of town.
To make things worst, within a few minutes left in the game Angels have lost one of the players due to injury and finished game playing 5 vs. 7. However and despite personnel problems, Angels have shown a great character, took game by storm and did not provided Freedom with a whole lot of chances throughout the game…

    # 3. March, 17 2007 Ocean City. St. Patrick’s indoor tournament. Quarterfinal. Angels- 4 Overlea Lightning- 3

Angels were stunned 2 weeks prior to the tournament with news that 2 of their players are leaving the team and going to play for Overlea at the end of indoor session while the third player was actively in talks with Overlea.

Rumor says that at the Tournament Overlea wanted to play against Angels as they believed that it would be an easy passage into semifinal. Be careful what you wish for…. Angels took the field very motivated and focused. Girls shocked Overlea by taking an early lead and increasing it soon after. On top of it, Angels also hit the post twice. Early success played a bad joke with Angels as they slowed down and allowed Overlea first to tie the game and then take the 3-2 lead. Right after that Angels re-discovered their concentration and tied the game. Then, with 40 seconds left in the game, Angels scored the winning goal…

    # 4. May, 29 2004. Philadelphia Youth Classic. Angels- 1 Phila (today Lighthouse) SC Express- 7

At their first game outside of MD, Angels came across one of the strongest teams in the Region I – then Philadelphia SC (today- Lighthouse SC) Express and Angels played a great game- if they will be playing against any other team, most likely result would be reversed. However, Express was simply a much superior team.

Angels kept Express at 0-0 at half time and only unfortunate ball bounce off an Angels defender helped Express break a deadlock. After the game Angels were complimented by referees as well as by Express coach who have predicted (as Angels find out later, correctly) that both teams will meet again in the tournament’s Final

    # 5 May, 28 2006 Philadelphia Youth Classic. Angels- 2 Garden City (NY) - 5

Angels came to the game knowing that by winning this game they will win the Tournament. Any other result- and we will have to count goals to determine who will take home second place trophy. However, Angels also knew that Garden City kept clean sheets in the last 19 outdoor games that they played during 2005-2006 season.

Angels started very well and took the early lead. However, Garden City capitalized on defensive mistake and tied the game. Angels have shown character and took the lead again. After that game became very physical and the Angels started losing players due to injuries. Two very controversial referee decisions went against Angels and helped Garden City first to tie the game and then to take a lead. With less then 5 minutes left in the game and having 3 injured starters on the bench, Angels gave up 2 more goals…

II. The 5 games we would like to forget:

    # 1. March, 13 2004 Perring Indoor League. Angels- 4 Fallston Freedom (today- Fallston Flames) - 9

Taking field, Angels knew that even by losing this game with a 4 goal difference, they still will have a secure place in the League Championship game. However, Fallston started strong and put Angels under pressure from the beginning. The coaches failed to reinstall order. Loss with 5 goals difference and Angels had to beat strong Baltimore Bays team a week later in order to earn the right to challenge Bays for the title…

    # 2- #3. Freedom First Tournament.
    September, 19 2006. Angels- 0 Upper Chesapeake SC- 4.
    September, 20 2006 Angels-0 North Carroll- 2

Angels played excellent opening game and outplayed their opponent throughout the game, but have failed to put the ball in the net. Unfortunately, Angels lost the game 0-1 as opponent was able to capitalize on the only opportunity they had- on a fast break.
An hour later team took the field against Upper Chesapeake. Apparently the disappointing defeat in previous game caused more damage then it seemed as the Angels lacked aggressiveness and did not looked like their self in the next 2 games. The coaching team was unable to motivate the players and, as the result, Freedom First is also the worst tournament Angels ever played…

    # 4. November, 7 2004. Baltimore Metro League. Angels-0 Hereford- 4

It was the second meeting between those 2 teams. Due to bad accident on I-83, a lot of players were unable to arrive to the field on time for the first game. Besides playing a man down, Angels did not had a single attacking player on the field. Still, girls outplayed Hereford throughout the game and won 1-0.

At the time of second meeting Hereford was playing for pride while Angels had every player available and knew that a win with 3 goals difference will give them a Division Champions title while loss will leave them empty handed. Whether it was overconfidence or too much pressure or coaches have failed to prepare players mentally, but Angels never were in the game….

    # 5. September, 3 2005. Baltimore Challenge Cup. Angels- 5 Pikesville- 5.

It was Angels game not to win- after taking an easy 5-0 lead team have lost concentration and coaching team have failed to turn things around. As the result, sloppy defending and numerous wasted goal scoring opportunities resulted in disappointed outcome…
