Braddock Road Azul Wins Virginia State Cup Title October 26, 2008
Richmond, VA - What started out as a chilly morning, the weather quickly warmed up with the sun brilliantly shining. Everyone wondered what the outcome of this game would be… when both the VA Beach Piranhas and the Azul walked onto the field before the game started, they all were smiles with their determination hidden behind them.
The first half was pretty even with both teams working the offensive mode. The first goal came with a beautiful combination play by Annabel passing off the ball back to Sam who stuffed the back of the net to score the lone goal.
Second half highlights include Erin's goal off of a free kick, Liz's header goal, Barbara beating the keeper to goal, and our smothering defense. Although Azul controlled the ball, the Piranhas never relented and played hard to salvage a goal throughout the match. In the end, the Azuls came out victorious with a game point of 4–0 at the end of regulation.
Without the Azul’s contributions and solid plays from each and every player including Paige, Charlene, Annabel, Carly, Isabel, Emily, Katie, Erin, Stephanie, Liz, Kelley, Danielle, Genny, Violet, Meg, Rachel, Barbara, Courtney, Sam, and Brianna, this season’s success would not have been possible. Congratulations to every one of you!!
It was a terrific game to watch with many spectators watching both of these teams play. Congratulations also to the Azul coaching staff, the parents, and the players who made it all worth while! Also, the team credits the Piranhas for giving the Azul great competitions for the past two years in State Cup Finals.
The Azul will once again have to prove themselves at the Regional Tournament in West Virginia.
