Joe’s Mill

After a trip to the Kingston area last September, by chance, I just happened to venture into a small shop called Joe's Mill where they had many musical instruments on display.  Curious, I went in and learned about what they did, they provide instruments to everyone like a "musical library" so ANYONE could learn to play music no matter their financial situation. Knowing the positive effect of playing and how important this was, I decided to try and help out and in my "Musical Estate Auction", which I was close to getting up on line and I pledged a portion of the sale to Joe's Mill.   I am very happy to have been able to donate just over $4500 to this great cause.  Below is a short clip of their origin but feel free to check out their website and learn more about them.  This kind of thing should be spread all over the country as music can be the escape and passion that can replace boredom and getting into trouble on the streets, especially for those who can't afford to buy instruments.   Thanks to everyone who purchased a great guitar or other item in that sale, I know you'll appreciate what Joe's Mill does as much as I do!!

Joe's Legacy

Joe Chithalen was a young beloved musician in Kingston. He encouraged everyone with an interest in music to perform. When he died unexpectedly on May 1st 1999, it took just hours for his friends to organize a bus to travel to his funeral.

One friend, the late Wally High, had also made the decision to follow through on a concept he and Joe had discussed often: finding a way to make sure everyone had a chance to learn to play an instrument.
