Week 2: Barrie Red Sox (0-2) @ Brooklin Dodgers (1-1)

    Barrie's 2006 Road Record: 6-6
    Last Season vs. Brooklin: 1-1

The Barrie Red Sox look to week 2 to try and break out of their opening weekend slump and get themselves into the win column, but it won't come easy as they travel to Oshawa to play the 2006 OSBA champion Brooklin Dodgers.

Brooklin opened the season up with an opening split with the Bloor Jays and looked pretty good. They've added some pitching depth in Wayne Wickens (from Pickering) and Dave Hickey (Whitby Canadians of the EOBA) to go with their already solid group of Canning, Dunn, Grabowski and MacFarlane. Offensively for the Dodgers, they are all aggressive hitters from top to bottom and added to the mix this season is all-star infielder Derek Grieve from the Whitby Chiefs.

Barrie looks to get the bats going this week, as they slumped miserably in week 1 vs. the Whitby Chiefs. They faced back-to-back studs on the mound from Whitby in Fraser and Harrington and the inability to get on the Barrie fields for pre-season games showed quite clearly. The Barrie bats will get going, and they should improve this season over last with the acquisitions the Red Sox made in the offseason. Outfielder Mike Walton looked strong in the opener vs. Whitby scoring twice and hitting an RBI double. Defensively for the Sox, they looked flawless in game 1 vs. Whitby, making some great defensive plays all around. They had solid pitching from Cook and rookie Dave Williamson, and great plays in the field by Ryan Forbes and Lloyd Crespi. Look for Cook and Williamson to continue their strong play on the hill for the Red Sox, and now that AJ Martin has shook off the offseason rust, he should return to his former self and provide another strong arm for Barrie.

Gametimes this weekend are Saturday, May 8th at 1:00pm & 3:30pm and are being played at Ritson Park in Oshawa.
