BAYFA Texans Weekley Update
Volume 3 - July 1, 2009

First Day of Practice is only 26 Days Away!
It's hard to believe that the first day of practice is only 26 days away. The BAYFA organization has been working hard this offseason to get ready for the 2009 campaign. Coming off our first Super Bowl Champion Season we are striving to bring that level of success to all our teams this fall.

The first few weeks of practice are very important for all the boys, and even more so for rookies.  Football is truly a team sport, and as such, practices are a critical part of building a successful team.  Please do your best to make sure your son attends as many practices as possible during the month of August and throughout the season.  We also realize that vacation schedules can have an impact on your sons attendance. If you are aware of any practices that your son will miss due to prior commitments please let your son's Head Coach know beforehand.

Getting in shape
Parents please remind your young athletes to get off the couch this summer. They need to spend time outside running and playing and getting accustomed to the heat. The first few weeks of practice will go much smoother for all if the kids have been active this summer and are used to the heat.

It's also important to teach your kids about hydration during these hot days.  They need to learn to drink plenty of water throughout the day so they are well hydrated for practice.
What about the shoes?
All players should have Football Cleats for the first day of practice. Experience says buy early. If you wait too long you will find that stores like Academy and Sports Authority will be running low on kids sizes.  It's also a good idea to have your kids break in new cleats before the first practice.  Just remind them to stay off the concrete with their cleats.

First Week of Practice: What to expect?
For the first week of practice there will be no pads. Players should wear shorts, light weight shirts and cleats. During this week we will be handing out uniforms. It's important that the players take them home and try them on ASAP. It's important that all equipment issues are addressed during this week of practice so all players can participate when we go to full pads and contact in week 2.
