Fall 2006 LIJSL U17 Div. II Champs!
Who We Are
Established in the late 1990s, the Bayside Tigers, of Bayside, Queens, New York, play in the Long Island Junior Soccer League, itself a member of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association. The team finished the fall 2006 season in first place (U-17 playing in a U-19 division) in LIJSL play and will compete in division one, U-17, for the spring 2007 season.
Since their inception, the Bayside Tigers have competed in numerous tournaments, including the 2004 Disney’s Soccer Showcase (President’s Day) in Florida, where they placed second, and most recently the Shenentaha (NY) College Showcase during the summer of 2005.
The SMS Academy Tigers AKA Bayside Tigers, founded as a tournament showcase team in the summer of 2006 with the Bayside Tigers as its core team, is a member of US Club Soccer. The team won first place in their first tournament competition, the Brentwood Columbus Day 2006 Tournament at Brentwood, NY, and went undefeated at the Kirkwood Girls Thanksgiving College Showcase 2006 in Kirkwood, DE in November 2006. The team has been accepted to this April’s 2007 MAPS/MSSL Spring Girls College Showcase in New Jersey.
The coaching staff for the two teams is headed by Mr. Saul Cabarcas. The teams are trained by Mr. Paul Elliot Allen. Mr. Allen, former member of the Trinidad & Tobago National Team, also trains the U-17 SMS Auburndale Supersonics, Northeast Regional champs and top-five team in New York State, and appeared with the team at Score at the Shore in July 2006. Mr. Allen also trains the U-14 SMS Auburndale Heat, Northeast runner-ups, spring 2006.
