In what started out in a rather quiet pitchers duel, Bethel ended up plating 8 to get the win over Fairfield in the Dot Bondi League Tournament. The final score was 8-5. While many contributed to the win, Mike Kaluta's offensive demonstration and Andrew Guercio's sharp pitching performance in relief brought home the win.

Bethel Goes 0-2 In States...Focus Now Shifts to League Tournament
July 22, 2007 - --
Unfortunately, the ride did not last long. After a tremendous District run, the Bethel 13's came up short suffering a 21-8 loss to the Host Team in the State Tournament held in Trumbull. As usual, it was one big inning from their opponent that put the end to any hope the 13's had. After falling behind, Bethel came back to tie the score at 8-8. Several miscues in the field, and the inability to get a balanced strike zone allowed Trumbull to take control and hold Bethel in check. Without getting an opportunity to get back in the game, Bethel will now come home, regroup and focus on getting back on track in the Dot Bondi League Tournament. Details to follow...

WOW --WOW--HOLY COW!!
July 15, 2007 - --
Bethel Battled Southbury winning 2 games on Sunday to Capture the 2007 Babe Ruth 13 Year Old Connecticut District 4 Tournament. Where do you start to describe this challenging, thrilling, heart stopping match up.
In Game 1 of the tournament finals, Bethel had jumped out to a commanding lead only to see Southbury battle back. Fortunately for Bethel they were able to hold off Southbury and come away with a 12-11 victory. The victory set up a final game between the two teams.
Game 2 is one to be remembered by the young men for a long time to come. After the first 6 1/3 innings, Bethel found themselves in what appeared to a no win situation since Southbury was well ahead with a 10-2 lead. Somebody must have forgotten to tell the Bethel players this.
Needing nine runs to take the game, the boys began the battle with 1 out in the seventh. They slowly and methodically got men on base with walks and hits. Before you knew it, they were back in the game. It was now time for Mike Kaluta to come up with a powerful hit to drive in several runs. With Southbury still leading at 10-9 Andrew Guercio came to the plate. With his grandparents in the stands to lend support, he delivered with a hard shot into center field driving home the tying and winning runs. Bethel ends up with the 11-10 victory.
Everyone contributed in some fashion. Robbie Frey was his usual intense self both behind and at the plate. Same goes for Nick Manfreda who consistently was a leader for his team mates. Tyler in his first year with the team, handled the pressure well. Connor used his speed on the base paths and in the field to make some critical catches. Brian Walters, (Mr. EEEEficiency,) got on base when it came to clutch time. Matty O kept the momentum going when the team needed a push, starting a key double play along with Austin L. who had been called upon to play pivotal positions at short and center. Kevin Vaughn and Steve Sieget, (two of the "Bethel Groupies" favorite players,) faced pressure throughout the series. Many times they delivered just what was needed to give their team a boost. Alex was tested several times in the field and on the mound by some tough Southbury players. He kept his cool which prevented his team mates from throwing in the towel.
Kudos' to the Coaches, Ray, Bob and Joe, Along with some assistance from "Tiny", they did not let the young men give up. They showed them how to handle pressure, adversity along with what good sportsmanship is all about. Even had some fun while doing it... A Class Act...
The Tournament win now qualifies them for the Connecticut State Double Elimination tournament being held in Trumbull, CT starting on July 20th. Bethel's first game is currently scheduled for Saturday, July 21st, 2007 at 10AM at Unity Park.
Congrats and Good Luck...
