    Fall Season Begins
    August 12, 2008
The Big League 30's 16U team has concluded it's Spring/Summer schedule.

During this upcoming fall season, the team will compete in 17U/18U events with the exception of the 2008 WWBA Underclass World Championships in Ft. Myers, FL where they will field a team with players exclusively from the class of 2010 and younger.

Highlights from the Big League 30's Spring/Summer Season:

30's Capture Triple Crown's "July 4th Classic" Championship
    July 7, 2008
The Big League 30's 16U put forth a true team effort in winning the Triple Crown Sport's "July 4th Classic" held at various locations throughout northern New Jersey. Sixteen teams from NY, NJ, MD and PA made up the field for this event and the 30's captured the gold by beating Jack Cust Diamond Jack's Blue in the final.
In the biggest nail-biter of the year, the 30's knocked off the NY Gothams for the second time in this tournament to win the semi-finals. With the 30's winning by a score of 4-1 late in the game, the Gothams tied it up and sent the game into a "California tie-breaker" where each team begins extra innings with a runner on second. Both teams went scoreless in the 8th. The Gothams took a one run lead in the top of the 9th but the 30's hung tough and stormed back to win the game with two in the bottom of the 9th.
In the championship, the 30's got the bats going early and jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the top of the 1st. They never looked back, rolling to a 13-6 win just as the stadium lights went out at 11:00pm.

30's Reach Round of 32 at WWBA Championship
    July 18, 2008
The Big League 30's 16U reached the round of 32 by shutting out the Delmarva Dawgs (Delaware) 7-0 in the first round of elimination play.
The elimination rounds of 32, 16 and 8 will resume on Saturday.
In the round of 32 on Saturday, the 30's will face the host team for this tournament, the East Cobb Astros 15U team at 11:30.

30's Win Two More, Advance to WWBA Elite 8
July 19, 2008 The Big League 30's 16U have advanced to the round of 8 teams at the WWBA National Championships in Marietta GA.
In the first game of the day the 30's surprised many in attendence by knocking off the home team East Cobb 15U Astros by a score of 2-1. The win snapped the Astros 52 game winning streak.
Immediately following the first game, the 30's slammed the St. Louis Knights 12-0 in a game that was stopped due to the mercy rule before the 4th inning was over.
With those two wins, the 30's now will play Jack Cust Diamond Jacks Gold (Flemington, NJ) at 7:30 tonight for the right to advance to the tournament semi-finals.

30's are getting some recognition on the Perfect Game website blog:
Longest Winning Streak at WWBA Tournament Ends

The Big League 30's victory over the East Cobb Astros 15s ended the longest winning streak any team had ever had coming into a WWBA event. The Astros had won more than fifty straight games before being defeated 2-1 in the 11:30AM game here at the East Cobb Complex. Big League pushed accross what ended up being the winning run with a suicide squeeze in the top of the 7th inning. Congratulations to both teams on a great game.

WWBA Run Ends With Heartbreaking 10-9 Quarter-final Loss to Cust Gold
    July 20, 2008
The Big League 30's magnificent run at the WWBA National Championship came to an end late Satuday night with a wild 10-9 loss to Jack Cust Gold (Flemington, NJ).
The game featured plenty of runs and pitching changes and was stopped by the strict two-hour tournament rule time limit after the top half of the 4th inning.
The 30's jumped out early to a 3-0 lead then stretched that lead to 5-0 in the top of the 2nd inning.
But Cust Gold answered with 4 runs in the bottom half of the 2nd inning to make the score 5-4.
The 30's responded by tacking on 3 more in the top of the 3rd and held an 8-4 lead.
Cust Gold then put up 6 big runs in the bottom of the 3rd to grab a 10-8 lead.
The never-say-die 30's answered back by scoring 1 in the top of the 4th and then loading the bases with two outs. But the game ended on a ground ball to short and a force-out at second base.
A tough way to end the tournament for sure, but the 30's have to be proud of a top 8 finish in the WWBA National Championship where 136 of the top teams in the country were fighting for the title.
