For Spring 2008, Carroll Manor Boys Lacrosse will offer the following age level/activities:

Please note age determination date changes: Lightning and Midget teams still base spring playing age on age as of December 31st, 2007. However, Tykers and clinic will now determine age as of 9/1/07.

Clinic A: Stick only. Intended for younger and first year lacrosse players and boys not yet ready to commit to playing with equipment. Boys are typically 5-6 years old. Clinic A will focus upon learning lacrosse fundamentals and exercising fundamentals through drills. Skills introduced include cradling, scooping, catching, throwing, shooting and dodging. Boys will participate in small intra-clinic scrimmages. Protective gear will not be worn as all drills and scrimmages will be no-contact and use soft-balls.

Clinic B: Full Equipment. Clinic B is intended for boys who are ready to play with equipment and who intend to move on to the Tyker level in the following season. Boys are typically 6 years old. Clinic B players will utilize full equipment and regulation balls. Clinic B will expand upon the fundamental skills introduced during Clinic A and go more in depth into field positions and lacrosse strategies. Boys will participate in intra-clinic scrimmages and in scrimmages with other clinic programs.

Tykers: The Tykers Program is open to all boys between ages 6 and 8 years old. As the majority of Tykers players are 7 or 8, it is highly recommended that only the more advanced or physically developed 6 year olds participate at the Tykers level. Carroll Manor offers both "in-house" and "travel" opportunities for Lightning. All boys playing travel lacrosse must also participate on an in-house team which will participate in the MYLA league. In-house teams will be evenly balanced between 1st and 2nd year Tykers players based upon the skills assessment in February. Each team will have 14-15 players depending upon the number of registrations. Practices will take place on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Games will be played on Saturdays. Carroll Manor also expects to field (1) Tykers travel team in the Harford County Travel League. Players interested in playing travel will be required to try out and are not assured a spot. Travel players must be willing to commit to 3 practices and 2 games per week (this includes the in-house team play and practice). For more information about each of these teams please go to the Carroll Manor League Lineup Site.

Lightning: The Lightning Program is open to all boys between ages 9 and 10 years old. Carroll manor offers both "in-house" and "travel" opportunities for Lightning. All boys playing travel lacrosse must also participate on an in-house team. In-house teams participate in the MYLA league. Teams are divided up by skill level (A, B, C levels) after player assessment sessions prior to the season. The lightning program focuses on continued fundamental development in offense and defense, with introduction of more advanced techniques. Boys begin to specialize in positions. Lightning teams will also have the option to participate in the Harford "travel" league. Travel games will occur once per week on Sundays. The travel team(s) may participate in area tournaments.

More detailed information for the 2008 Outdoor Program can be found under the Clinic, Tykers and Lightning Program links under the Main Menu.

Carroll Manor Boys Lacrosse Program Vision
As many of you may already know, Mark McWright and I have assumed the roles of the CMRC Boys Lacrosse Co-Chairs. We would like to thank the retiring chairman, Jim McManus, for over three years of dedication and commitment to the CMRC lacrosse program. Jim put a lot of energy and hard work into the program and we wish him and his sons continued success. We are very excited about the opportunity to build upon Jim’s foundation.

The CMRC Boy’s lacrosse program historically has a reputation as a highly respected program within the MYLA. Over recent years the program has experienced some growing pains, reducing our presence within MYLA, especially at the older levels. We have a vision that we believe will reestablish the Carroll Manor Boys Lacrosse Program as a superior lacrosse program in Northern Baltimore County.

Our roadmap to expanding the program involves a multi-faceted approach, predominantly focusing on offering a year-long lacrosse experience that will reinforce the proper fundamentals of the game of lacrosse and encourage individual and community commitment to CMRC. Our goal is to provide a system that allows players of all skill levels the opportunity to develop to their maximum playing potential without the need to transfer to other programs. This entails offering year-round instruction and playing opportunities and expanding the program such that we can ultimately field teams at all levels of play.

For 2008, our program will focus once again on our clinic, Tykers and Lightning levels. We will reintroduce a Midget program starting with the indoor season of 2008. This midget program will be predominantly comprised of boys graduating from lightning after the 2008 outdoor season, with supplements brought in through recruiting and through our 2008 Carroll Manor Summer League. We are confident that we will be able to field a competitive Midget team during the 2009 MYLA season. This Midget team will lead us forward to the eventual reintroduction of a Junior Program in 2011. This timetable for the reintroduction of midget and junior teams may be accelerated if we receive enough community interest and support from prior and new players before the planned reintroduction of the levels.

We are committed to getting this program involved in the higher ages as soon as possible and plan to do our best to advertise and promote within our community.

Boys Lacrosse Program Planned Enhancements
This summer, the Carroll Manor Boys Lacrosse program held its first ever annual CMRC Lacrosse Summer League. This program was a tremendous success, largely due to the dedication of the coaches and the enthusiasm of the players and parents. We are excited to build upon this momentum as we transition into the indoor season.

Here are some of our plans for future program enhancements:

· Continue to participate in the fall/winter Maryland Indoor Lacrosse league. We have expanded our presence in the MIL this winter to 4 teams: two each at both the Tykers and Lightning levels.

· Define a CMRC coaching standard and philosophy to ensure maximum continuity in technique and instruction between age groups and different coaches. This will include hosting a coaching clinic for head coaches and assistants prior to the start of the outdoor season, involving CPR/AED training and guidance on program goals and expectations.

· Hold a Spring Lacrosse Festival, with one day of contests/drills/scrimmages to celebrate the outdoor season.

· Host a Fall Lacrosse Party as an opportunity to bring the community together for a day of fun, food and celebration.

· Continue with an annual summer league designed to provide further instruction during the off-season in a non-competitive environment

· Schedule periodic, informal, off-season practice sessions. Sessions will be formatted similarly to the Summer League, with drills/skill development, scrimmages and potential guest coaches.

· Improve infrastructure/appearance of facilities and equipment (re-net/replace goals, add clinic fields, upgrade uniforms)

· Raise visibility/awareness (marketing) of Carroll Manor lacrosse

· Set up improvement and fundraising committees staffed by non-coaching parents to plan the optimum means of achieving our goals and to raise money for program needs/improvements.

· Raise funds to assist in a “scholarship” program that will allow players in need of financial assistance the opportunity to participate in our league. Collect donations and purchase additional lacrosse equipment for loan to first time players.

We realize our goals are very ambitious, but we are dedicated to making Carroll Manor the best that it can be. We look forward to working with the community as we implement these ideas over the coming years.

Please feel free to contact us and become involved if you have any great ideas to share!

Carroll Manor Program Goals and Coaching Philosophy
The goal of the CMRC program is to teach fundamental skills and promote sportsmanship in a positive and fun environment, where all boys have the opportunity to participate and learn equally and fairly. Many programs design their teams for the single purpose of winning; this is often done at the cost of many of the younger, less experienced and/or less athletic players. We believe strongly that the primary focus of each coach should be on the development of each player to the best of his individual ability, especially at the younger and in-house levels. What makes Carroll Manor unique is that our success as a program will not be judged purely on win/loss record; rather it will be judged upon four distinct criteria:

· The individual improvement of each boy and his growth as a player and as a person both on and off the field

· The quality of the community environment that we provide for players and their parents both on and off the field

· The level to which we prepare our players for playing lacrosse at the more elite levels in high school and college (focus on fundamentals)

· The degree of enjoyment and love for the game that we bring to all of the boys participating in our program

We believe that through proper instruction and encouragement the boys will be able to grow into skilled players and have truly rewarding experiences. Though some programs limit coaching by parents, we extend the opportunity for all parents to become involved in the CRMC Boys Lacrosse coaching community. Good coaches are the foundation of a successful program; this begins at Clinic Level and spreads through the rest of the program.

Our current goal is to take input from all of our coaches and define a basic coaching standard and philosophy to ensure maximum continuity in technique and instruction between age groups and different coaches. We will host a coaching clinic for head coaches and assistants prior to the start of the outdoor season, involving CPR/AED training and guidance on program goals and expectations. CMRC Boys Lacrosse also plans to sponsor several off-season events for coaches to encourage understanding of program goals and to promote good relationships and communication between all coaches.

We recognize that coaching is a privilege and not a right. In order to ensure that the standards and goals of the Carroll Manor Boys Lacrosse Program are being met, we will be initiating a year-end review for all program coaches. We will ask that every lacrosse family anonymously fill out a review form, providing comments and critiques on what they liked and did not like over the course of the season for each of their coaches. These coaching assessments will be reviewed by the program administrators and a board of parent representatives. Recommendations for future coaching will be determined after this review. Anonymous feedback will also be provided to all coaches so they may understand what practices are beneficial and what may need improvement. Any coaches who prove to have a negative impact on the program and fail to meet the outlined goals will not be invited to coach in subsequent seasons. We believe that the above practices and goals will ensure the best environment for our boys.

The coaches and administrators of the Carroll Manor Boys lacrosse program recognize that we are not involved in this program for personal gain or glorification: we are here for the boys and parents of this community. Our primary focus is to ensure that we meet the needs of this community at all times. This is best served through the volunteer efforts from within the community itself. We encourage all parents with a desire to make a true, positive impact on this community to volunteer time with the program. Everyone has a wide range of talents to offer, whether these talents lead to positions as coach, assistant coach, team administrator, or program board assistant. If you are interested in helping out, please be sure to contact us.
