Her Yosemite High basketball career now flush with perfection -- four varsity seasons, four Central Section Division III championships -- Katie Menton, the tough mountain girl, can finally relax and reflect. She's asked to explain the success of a school-record career that closes as The Bee's repeat Player of the Year. Her answers link courage, commitment and crisis. "I was always a tomboy," she says with the most appropriate of all starting points.

Katelyn Gilliam-First Team
GUARD, SANGER
Grade: Senior
Height: 5-8
She's qualified because: The three-time All-County/Metro Athletic Conference choice and straight-A student leaves Sanger ranked first in career games (118), third in steals (285) and fourth in scoring (1,073 points) and rebounds (680). This season, she averaged 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.7 steals, and was the team's key press-breaker as the Apaches went 25-8 and reached the section D-II finals.
The word: "She started as a post player and developed into one of the best guards in the section. She rebounded and brought the ball up court. She started the offense and often ended it with an assist or a basket. Her work ethic is simply the best I have ever seen by a high school athlete." -- Apaches coach Steve Case
Courtney Collishaw-First Team
FORWARD, REDWOOD
Grade: Senior
Height: 5-10
She's qualified because: The four-year starter, two-time West Yosemite League Player of the Year and repeat Bee All-Star will pack with her to UC-Santa Barbara a basketball scholarship, 1,014 rebounds and 1,960 career points -- the 17th-leading total in section history. She also helped lead the Rangers to the section's D-III volleyball title.
The word: "As a freshman, you could really see her talent, but also that she had the work ethic to go to the next level. She was smart, ran the team efficiently and was tough for teams to match up with because she could post up guards and go right by the big girls." -- Rangers coach Louie Perez
Abby Bloetscher, Jr., Center, Exeter -Second Team
Fastbreak: The Central Sequoia League Most Valuable Player and repeat Bee All-Star second-teamer averaged 17.4 points and 13.5 rebounds and delivered 26 consecutive double-doubles for the D-IV runner-up.

Simply the Best
By Damian Marquez
Her numbers may have been down a bit compared to last season, but the 17.0 points and 9.2 rebounds per game Redwood's Courtney Collishaw averaged were hard-earned. For the second straight season, Collishaw is our hands-down selection for the Times-Delta/Advance-Register Tulare County girls basketball player of the year.

Caty Huntington, a sophomore at Liberty High, is a three-sport athlete, two of them at the varsity level. When she's not at her own practices and games, she's at Haley's, usually shooting hoops or practicing her dribbling on the side of the court. She's a determined and aggressive competitor with a game stare that could cut glass.

Tulare County Girls Basketball Player of the Year: Redwood's Collishaw does it all
By Zeke Gonzales
Staff writer
When it came time to decide who was the Tulare County girls basketball Player of the Year, there was no discussion.
Hands down, the best player in the county was Courtney Collishaw of Redwood. The junior led a talented but inexperienced team to the Division 2 Valley title game, where Redwood beat Lemoore but had the title stripped for a rules infraction.

Hannah Donaghe led the PAC 5 in points per game as a sophomore last year but was not satisfied with one aspect of her game.
Through a series of AAU camps and summer leagues last summer, Donaghe began focusing on rebounding.
"It's something that I've worked on because I'm not that big," she said. "I'm getting better at being more physical."
