    CLOVER RECREATION DEPARTMENT
    INFORMATION SHEET FOR BASKETBALL

    Registration Dates
Mondays and Tuesday until October 30 from 4pm to 8pm at the Clover Community Park Building.
    Program Goals
Our league is dedicated to providing a positive opportunity for children to learn and play basketball. The most important part of this experience is that every participant has a chance to learn, play, and enjoy the game. At this level, participation is more important than winning.

    Program Descriptions
The basketball program is divided into the following divisions:
    1. Coed ages 5U (Cannot turn 6 before Sept. 1, 2007 and must be 4 by Dec. 31, 2007)
    2. Coed ages 7U (Cannot turn 8 before Sept. 1, 2007)
    3. All-girls ages 8U (Cannot turn 9 before Sept. 1, 2007)
    4. All-boys ages 9U (Cannot turn 10 before Sept. 1, 2007)
    5. All-girls ages 10U (Cannot turn 11 before Sept. 1, 2007)
    6. All boys ages 11U (Cannot turn 12 before Sept. 1, 2007)
    7. All girls ages 13U (Cannot turn 14 before Sept. 1, 2007)
    8. All boys ages 13U (Cannot turn 14 before Sept. 1, 2007)
    9. Coed ages 14 & older (Cannot turn 19 before Sept. 1, 2007)
    10. Co-ed High School recreation league division.
    Team assignment
Returning players have a choice of returning to his/her previous assigned team or entering the draft. A draft is a skills review where that player will be graded on his/her level of the participating sport. For the purpose of being fair to all participants and coaches, all new players in his/her assigned age group will go through draft.
    Coaches
We rely on parents to volunteer to coach in our athletic programs. Each team must have a volunteer coach. The recreation dept will have to limit the number of teams based on the number of coaches.

Exemptions: Carpooling exemptions are not allowed. The following are allowed:
    1. Head coaches’ immediate family member (child, grandchild, niece, nephew)
    2. Sibling(s) (brothers/sisters)

    Practices/games
Practices assigned by the Recreation Department are held weeknights at the Clover Middle School gym. Practices will begin after the draft starting at 6pm.
Games assigned by the Recreation Department are held on Saturdays mornings at the Clover High School new and/or old gym. Games will begin tentatively on the 2nd Saturday in December starting at 9am for ages 9 and under. Games for ages 10 and older will begin tentatively on the 1st Saturday in January.

    Fees
The registration fee is $40 per player and it covers the players’ jersey, paying for officials, equipment, and any maintenance. The fee does not include shorts, socks, shoes, trophies, or a banquet. Basketball jerseys will be ordered the first working day after the basketball draft and shall arrived prior to first game. Jerseys shall be assigned by size rather than number.

    Gym rules
    1. All participants are expected to sit during the games. In the new gym, non-participants are expected to sit upstairs.
    2. Personal basketballs are not allowed in either gym.
    3. Food or drink is not allowed in either gym
    4. Neither the school nor the recreation department is responsible for lost or stolen items.
    5. Neither the school nor the recreation department is responsible for injuries.
    6. Participants should dress before leaving home. Only soft-soled shoes are allowed on the gym floors. Dressing rooms are not available at the school.
    7. Anyone caught going into any area of the school, other than those designated for league use, will be removed from the program.
    8. Gym directors are in charge of game day operations and are the final authority in each gym regarding situations that arise during play.
