The Cannons hosted their 1st Annual Colchester/Milton Little League night at Centennial Field on June 20th, 2008. 35 Little Leaguers from all different teams worked on throwing, catching, fielding and hitting drills with the help of the 18 Cannons players on hand. Each Little Leaguer received a Cannons Baseball Academy tee-shirt and were invited to the Cannons Winooski Insurance Wood Wars home opener against New Brunswick in which the Cannons came back with 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th for a thrilling 8-7 victory. Hope to see everyone at our games this season!!!
Dusablon to Become a Penmen
AJ Dusablon, a RHP from Burlington HS, committed 04/05/2008 to attend the University of Southern New Hampshire. Dusablon was the Cy Young award winner in 2007 and 2008 for the Cannons. Dusablon is expected to be an impact player for SNHU coach Scott Loiseau as a freshman. Dusablon was a graduate of the Cannons program in 2008.
Cauchon To Join Merola at Plattsburgh State College
Kris Cauchon has started his first fall season for Plattsburh State College under coach Kris Doorey. Cauchon, a utility player with impressive speed, plans to major in education. Cauchon is expected to make an immediate impact in the Cardinal lineup. Cauchon will return for his final year of Cannons eligibility in the summer of 2009.
Bara Commits to Vermont Tech
Cannons First Baseman Justin Bara has committed to attend Vermont Tech, where he plans to play baseball. Bara is in his senior year at Burlington High School. Bara plans to major in Architecture.
Burns to Play For Mountaineers in 2009
Former Cannons MVP and current UMass Lowell outfielder Sean Burns will be a member of the two-time defending NECBL Champion Vermont Mountaineers in the summer of 2009. The NECBL is considered one of the best collegiate wooden bat leagues in the country. Congratulations to Sean on earning this great opportunity.
Geary Headed to Skidmore

Cannons infielder Bryan Geary has started his college baseball career this fall at Skidmore College in Saratoga, NY. Geary, currently an undecided major, will enter the Skidmore class of 2012. Geary is expected to be an impact player at 2nd base for Thoroughbreds coach Ron Plourde . Geary has one year of eligibility remaining with the Cannons.
Dulude Commits to the University of Vermont
A senior at Enosburg Falls High School, Dulude is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound, right-handed pitcher who is one of the top players in the state of Vermont. Last year he went 4-1 with a 1.01 earned run average for the Hornets striking out 79 hitters in 50 innings. In the summer, he plays American Legion baseball for the Colchester Cannons. An excellent all-around athlete, Dulude is from the same hometown and high school as UVM Hall of Famer and 16-year major leaguer, Larry Gardner (Vermont 1909).
“The only Vermont native of our incoming class, Travis has a lot of potential as a hard throwing righty,” said Currier. “We think he will improve quickly when he concentrates just on baseball and plays at a more competitive level. Travis should see weekday innings right away.”
Former Cannons Standout Shines at College Level
HAMPTON, Va. – Two members of the Lyndon State College men’s baseball program were honored for the accomplishments Monday at a banquet held in conjunction with the 2008 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Baseball Championships.
Junior lefthander Matt Picard of Winooski, Vt., and sophomore third baseman Jake Ainsworth of Fairfax, Vt., received honorable mentions to the 2008 USCAA All-American baseball team.
Picard emerged as the ace of the LSC pitching staff in 2008 posting a record of 6-4 and an earned-run-average of 2.58. He allowed only 17 earned runs on 60 hits in 594 and one-third innings. Picard, a left-hander, struck out 50 opposing batters while walking 17.
Ainsworth swung the bat at a .407 clip, and topped the team in on-base- percentage with a mark of .514. He had 35 hits in 86 at bats, including 11 doubles, and knocked in 18 runs on the season. Ainsworth also led the pitching staff in saves with three.
The U15 Cannons won their 2nd tournament of the season as they went 3-1 en route to the Akadema Wood Bat Classic Championship in Montreal, Canada. Each Cannons player receive their own personal wood bat at the ceremony.
