The Sellers Report
May 14, 2008 -  --  Anyone at the Scrimmage on Wednesday evening could look at Keleigh Sellers and see that there was a glimmer in her eye and an even larger than normal smile.  Keleigh had her appointment with her doctor on Tuesday and after calling the coach and trying to play a couple of bad pranks on him advised that not just one, but all three pins in her fractured arm had been removed.  The Doctor advised that the arm had healed and she can begin working and strengthening her arm  but will have to remain on the DL list until at least June 10th.  After that if all goes well she will be ready for action.  We look forward to her return.

Yankees beat Astros in a scrimmage
May 14, 2008 -  --  The Minor Division Yankees and Astros played a scrimmage game on Wednesday evening at Al Abrams Field.  The final score had the Yankees on top 17 to 9 after five innings of play.  Both teams played with a full outfield to allow all players to participate in the game.  The Yankees collected 11 hits on the day as John Ackerman  and Devon Hazelton hit a double and single, JT Stevenson and Ryan Muir added two singles each and Carter Funk, Blake Rhodes, and Zac Lee had a single.  Carter Funk scored four times on the day.  Pitchers Carter Funk, Blake Rhodes, and Ronnie Connor together gave up only two runs.  For the Astros Daniel Hott and Conner Brode had two single each.  The next game for the Yankees is in the Booster Game Sunday at 4:00 against the Angels at Long Field in Constitution Park.

Friday night at the Track not a complete WASH!
May 12, 2008 -  --  The rain we had this past Friday caused the race to be canceled however several of the players still got together at CiCi'S Pizza followed by a Movie.  I want to take this time to thank those in attendance as I would like to see this team be friends and not only teammates.  We hope to plan other events in the future and if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Scrimmage scheduled for Wednesday
May 11, 2008 -  --  We have been invited to play a scrimmage game against the Astros on Wednesday evening at 5:30 at Al Abrams field.  All players are asked to arrive at the field prior to 5:30 to get ready for the game.  Please wear the gray uniforms to the game.

Yankees win scrimmage game against Angels
May 8, 2008 -  --  The Yankees won a five inning scrimmage against the Angels at Stitcher field on Thursday May 8th.  The team played with nine players.  Outfielder Ryan Muir came down with a virus and was unable to play.  Carter Funk started out on the mound and finished with a three up and three down inning.  Second on the Hill was Blake Rhodes who walked in the only run for the day but struck out three to conclude his inning of work.  Ronnie Connor then worked the third inning facing three batters and striking out two.  In the Forth JT Stevenson came on to strike out the side.  Finishing the day on the mound was John Ackerman who after walking the first batter then struck out the next three to end the game.  At the plate JT Stevenson was 5 for 5 collecting three singles and two doubles, Carter Funk went 4 for 4 hitting a triple and three singles.  John Ackerman concluded his day with a 3 for 3 performance smashing a triple, double, and single.  Seven year old Devon Hazelton hit a double while Dom Mazzeo scored three times, Tyson Todd twice, and Blake Rhodes Twice.  Zac Lee finished with a three walk day while doing a great job behind the plate.  The next scheduled appearance for the Yanks will be in the booster game against the same Angels either Saturday May 17 or Sunday May 18.

Happy Birthday Devon Hazelton
May 6, 2008 -  --

Switch hitting outfielder Devon Hazelton celebrated his 8th birthday this past week with a party at his house with friends and family.  The Yankees want to express their birthday wishes to Devon!

Friday At the Track
May 6, 2008 -  --  As we know Blake Rhodes father runs his number 88 race car at the Cumberland Fairgrounds each Friday.  Some of the team has decided to go to CeCe's Pizza at 5:30 and then go to the Track to watch our Third Baseman's father put the pedal to the metal.  According to Blake admission for kids is free and he wants us to meet him to the right side of the grandstand upon entrance.  All parents and players are invited to attend.

YANKS GET READY FOR SCRIMMAGE WITH ANGELS
May 6, 2008 -  --  The Yankees have one final practice until there preseason affair with the Angels on Thursday evening at Stitcher field at Braddock Middle School.  The team has been working well as a unit and all players are expected to contribute in Thursdays contest.  We will try to pitch the entire staff.  Game time will be 5:45.

Registration Fee
The League has asked that all fees for playing be turned in to managers in the next 10 days.  If you have not paid the fee please be sure to turn the $30 to the Manager so your uniform can be ordered.  The season is set to start May 22 with the booster game being scheduled for May 16th.

Sellers Goes on the Disabled List
April 26, 2008 -  --  Yankees new player Kyleigh Sellers has been placed on the DL with a fracture to the arm.  The nine year old broke her arm in a playground accident at school.  She has had surgery in Morgantown and will be evaluated in 4 weeks by her Doctor.

Practice
April 15, 2008 -  --  Wanted to comment on how well our practice has been going.  Every player is showing improvement and our drills and practice schedule is starting to show.  The Yanks take an aggressive approach however it will pay off not only in our schedule this year but in your future years in the Major Division.  I have been told by several coaches that our kids are prepared and I want to thank each one of you for giving 100%.

The Start of 2008 Season
April 6, 2008 -  --
The Yankees held their first practice of the season on Sunday April 6, 2008 at Stitcher Field.  We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new players to the Team.  In the recent draft the Yankees feel lucky to have been able to draft Blake Rhodes, Carter Funk, Kyleigh Sellers, Devon Hazelton, and Tyson Todd.  We also can announce that former player Ryan Morgan has decided to play this year.  The club feels that all the players will be a nice addition in keeping this program going in a winning tradition.  At the first practice we were able to see all the players swing the bat, throw and field.  Future practices will encompass all these aspects and we will continue to add new items to our work sessions so by game time we will know what to do and when to do it.  As discussed out Practices will be on Wednesday at Al Abrams (5:30), Friday at South Penn (5:30), and Sunday at Stitcher (4:00).  The three sessions are manitory.  We will also have two optional dates each week at South Penn on Monday and Thursday beginning at 5:30.  There is no practice available this Monday April 7th.  Also please keep in mind that South Penn is often wet in the outfield and unplayable so I will keep you posted on whether the field can be used to practice.  The Minors have also been given permission to play doubleheaders each Friday at Flynn field off Offutt St. in South Cumberland.

Schedule
March 21, 2008 -  --

For some of you that have noticed the Minor League schedule on www.dapperdanclub.com please note that this schedule is not firm.  We are running into a field shortage and the city has designated certain fields to different leagues and those leagues must grant permission to play on the fields so truthfully we do not know where we will be playing.  Remain patient as there is alot of time until opening day toward the end of May.  As soon as the schedule is firm I will let you know.

Yankee Players Drafted to Major Division
March 19, 2008 -  --  Sunday March 16th was the Major Division draft and several of our Champion Yankees were drafted to the next level.  Nick Mazzeo was drafted by the Tigers, Tyler Sponaugle to the A's, Ricky Colbert the Orioles, Austin Bittner the Pirates, and a pair of Yankees went to the Phillies in Bradley Stotler and Danny May.  We wish all our former players success and continue to show the skills and professionalism you learned with the Yankees in the Minor Division.

FUNDRAISING

In case you have not noticed we have a Magazine Store.  Please take the time to click into the Store and purchase a subscription.  The team is given 40% of the cost for each one sold.  We can use this toward our year end picnic or any other thing we need funding.  I have targeted $500.00 this year from this program.  I figure we have 12 players and if each can get $42.00 in profit ( that will be about 4 people per player to purchase a subscription) then we will meet our goal.  This is not a fundraiser of the Dapper Dan but a Team fundraiser.   Email all your friends and family and ask them to review our site and magazine store.

2008 Season will Soon Be Here
March 1, 2008 -  --

As we all anticipate the spring weather we know that the 2008 Season will be here before we know it.  As we know the Yanks won the 2007 Championship and in doing so we have prepared several players for the upcoming Major League Draft.  We know going into the draft we will lose our 10 year olds from last seasons team.  We would like to extend best wishes to Tyler Sponaugle, Bradly Stotler, and Nick Mazzeo.  Use what you learned as a Yankee and you will have success in the upper division.  Also available to be drafted into the Majors as 10 year olds will be our nine year old players from last season.  These players are Austin Bittner, Ricky Colbert, Danny May, and Zac Lee.  The Major League draft is scheduled for May 16, 2008 at 6:00.  On the same day there will be a voluntary work out session for potential draftees from 2:00-3:00 at Long Field.  The Minor League draft will occur at a later date and practice schedules will be given out.  In the mean time players are urged to prepare themselves by throwing with friends or swinging their bat if weather permits prior to practice.  I will keep you all posted but I hope to have a successful draft so we can have another great season.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

2007 DAPPER DAN MINOR DIVISION CHAMPIONS

Yankees Win 2007 Minor League Championship
July 13, 2007 -  --
The Yankees swept the best of three series with the Braves to win the Dapper Dan Minor Division Championship with a 12-5 victory.  The game was halted after five innings due to the two hour time limit.  The Yankees started out the contest with Bradly Stotler on the mound who pitched the first three innings and allowed seven hits, three runs, gave up three walks and struck out four hitters.  The Yanks then followed with Ricky Colbert who pitched the final 2 2/3 of the game and allowed three hits, two runs, allowed eight walks, and struck out six hitters.  Austin Bittner played outstanding defense in the field for the Yanks and took away a smash hit by Tyler Smallwood in the second with the bases loaded and turned it into a routine out.  Leading hitters for the Yankees were Bittner with a triple, double, and single, John Ackerman with a home run and two singles, and Nick Mazzeo with a double and single.    The Braves were lead by a pair of singles by York and Jackson.  Van Pelt hit a triple in the third inning.  The Yankess accepted their championship trophies after the contest and celebrated by dumping a cooler of water over the head of Manager Scott Stevenson.  The Coach is extremely happy with the Championship and feels the hard work each and every player put into this season will pay dividends to them throughout their baseball careers.  The Coach wants to thank the players (Austin Bittner, Ronnie Conner, John Ackerman, Ricky Colbert, Nick Mazzeo, Bradly Stotler, JT Stevenson, Tyler Sponaugle, Zac Lee, Ryan Muir, Danny May, and Dom Mazzeo), and all the parents for this successful and special season.  It has been a pleasure being associated with such a fine group of people.
