Coach Frank LaCava enters his sixth season as Head Coach of the Central Catholic Vikings. After a 5-12 record in his first season LaCava's team went 12-7 in 2010 and captured the Section 4 AAAA Championship. In 2011, he guided the Vikings to a WPIA Playoff Appearance. In 2012, Coach LaCava lead Central Catholic Vikings to finish its regular-season schedule with seven consecutive wins and tied Plum for the Section 4 AAAA Title Championship. The Vikings finished 10-2 in section play and went on to win the WPIAL Class AAAA Playoffs First Round versus Shaler and the Quarter Finals versus Bethel Park. The Vikings went on to play the WPIAL Class AAAA Playoffs Semifinals and ended a memorable season for the Vikings (17-5-1). In 2013, Coach LaCava lead Central Catholic Varsity Vikings to win WPIAL Class AAAA Section 3 First Place Seed with a record of 9-1 within the conference and 16-4 overall record. The team went on to win the first round of playoffs versus Penn Trafford with a game score of 4-3. They proceed to the second round versing Pine Richland playing competitively for 8 innings and ended the season with a 17-5 record.
Coach LaCava is a 1988 graduate of Penn Hills High School where he led the Indians to two section titles. He went on to play college baseball for Gulf Coast Community college in Panama City Florida. During his seven years as an Assistant Coach at Franklin Regional High School his teams captured two WPIAL titles and three section titles. He also spent two years as an Assistant Coach at Gateway High School.
Coach LaCava resides in Monroeville with his wife Lisa of 23 years, and their three children Frank 18, Nick 17, and Adriana 14.
