Coach Carlson will be entering his tenth season as a Union Knight. It is his fourth season with Union as Defensive Coordinator under Coach Hadachek. He previously coached five years (1994-1998) for Union, four years with Coach Luhring & one year with Coach Ewald, also as Defensive Coordinator.

This is Coach CarlsonĀ“s 26th year coaching high school football. He started coaching at Cedar Falls High School as the Sophomore Defensive Coordinator under the late Coach Pat Mitchell and was there 3 years before coming to Union to coach with Kurt Luhring in 1994.

After leaving Union, Todd coached varsity football for 13 years at Dike New Hartford under head coaches Tom Wilson (now at WDM Dowling), Justin Urbanek, and Don Betts. He was the Special Teams Coordinator, and Running Backs and Linebackers coach while at Dike New Hartford. During that time, the DNH Wolverines made the playoffs every year but one, and of those, finished seasons with many playoff games which led to two trips to the quarterfinals, two trips to the semi-finals, and three trips to the state championship game.

Coach Carlson graduated from Willow High School in Quimby, Iowa, where he played football, basketball, baseball, and ran track. He went on to Indian Hills Community College and earned his AA degree Electronic Technology. He decided he would like to coach and teach, and enrolled to UNI where he received his BA degree in Mathematics Education and Coaching.

While at UNI he met his wife Korina, and they have one daughter, Clara. They now reside in La Porte City. When not working or doing football, Todd enjoys helping others lead a healthy lifestyle and spending time with family.
