| Class A Senior Legion Information | |
The Class A Senior Legion Division consists of all 41 Senior Legion teams across the state of Nebraska. These teams are divided into 7 "Areas" as listed below, and there are also some historical and some new "league" affiliations. First, the areas:
Areas 1, 2, 3 & 4: Omaha Benson, Omaha Creighton Prep, Omaha North, Omaha Burke, Omaha Central, Omaha Northwest, Omaha South, Omaha Westside, Bellevue East, Bellevue West, Elkhorn, Millard North, Millard South, Millard West, Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha Bryan, Omaha Gross, Omaha Skutt, Papillion LaVista, Papillion LaVista South and Ralston.
Area 5: Lincoln High, Lincoln East, Lincoln Northeast, Lincoln North Star, Lincoln Southeast (2 teams), Lincoln Southwest, Lincoln Pius X.
Area 6: Columbus, Fremont, Grand Island (2 teams), Norfolk, and South Sioux City.
Area 7: Twin Cities (Gering/Scottsbluff), Hastings, Kearney and North Platte.
Starting in 2006, Metro Area teams devised a new method for seeding the Area 1, 2, 3 & 4 tournaments. Basically, each team in Areas 1-4 will play a Metro League schedule consisting of 24 games. Based on the results of those games, the teams will be seeded into four area tournaments using a serpentine method.
Areas 5, 6 & 7 will each seed their respective tournaments based on the overall win-loss records of each team in the Area by a specified date.
And now for the Leagues:
The Metro League was new in 2006, combining 21 Class A teams from Areas 1-4 with Class B Roncalli to form a 22 team league. The teams are divided into two pools, Pool A and Pool B, with each team playing a league schedule consisting of 12 games -- one game against each of the other teams in the pool and two games against teams from the other pool. At the end of the season, the 22 teams are ranked by their league wins and losses and then seeded into the four Area tournaments (1-4) using a serpentine method.
We will post the Metro League Pool Assignments and Schedule for 2007 just as soon as we receive them from the league administrators.
Unlike the newly formed Metro League, the Cornhusker League has been around for several decades. The Cornhusker League consists of two divisions, East and West.
The Cornhusker East teams include all of the Lincoln schools (East, Southeast, Lincoln High, North Star, Southwest, Northeast and Pius X) plus Fremont. The Cornhusker West teams are North Platte, Kearney, Hastings, Grand Island, Columbus and Norfolk.
The Cornhusker League is somewhat of a separate creature from Areas 5 6 and 7, all but one of the teams in Areas 5, 6 and 7 (South Sioux City) are members of the League. The League holds its own Championship game (top East team vs top West team) and its own All-Star game. League standings are not used to seed the Area tournaments, which, as noted above, are seeded based on overall win-loss records by a specified date.
