Greetings Troop 318 Scouts and Families,
If anyone is interested in attending (and this includes parents as well as scouts) the next Orienteering meet for the Chicago Area Orienteering Club is Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Waterfall Glen East. Adults NEED to have completed Youth Protection Training through BSA to be able to attend.
The cost for adults if you want your own map is $5, (but it is FREE for the adults and scouts if they are just hiking with me).
If you are planning to go, please send an email to me so I can look for you. I always wear a red Troop 318 shirt so I'm easy to spot at the meets.
I will be leaving on the course at 10AM sharp so don't be late (it usually lasts about 2 hours).
I always arrive about 15-20 minutes earlier so if you are there early we can do some instruction or work on other Orienteering Merit Badge requirements.

I would suggest that each scout has a water bottle and shoes that you can be tromping through the mud in. Don't really need a compass at this time (we can share) BUT if you want to get one make sure it is an Orienteering compass with a flat baseplate and rotating bezel (the ring that goes around the main compass part). Even Coleman makes these and they sell for about $10 at Kmart and Target.
Again, I will be at the site at around 9:40AM if anyone wants to go over any Merit Badge requirements (or just to get ideas about them).
