3/10/08 The FGB Middle School Superstar Camp provided some stellar point guard play which was impressive for players at such a young age. Much of the staff was impressed with the point guards understanding of the game and their unselfishness in a camp setting. Baylie Bridges a left handed guard from Groveland showed off her range also at the camp being one of the top shooters we saw on Saturday. Bridges buried several 3’s in 5 on 5 competitions as well as being an immediate threat with the ball during 1 on 1.  Alexis Brown a 7th grader from Lake Highland Prep might have been one of the most polished point guards with her ability to score, distribute, and defend. Brown a warrior during 1 on 1 took a hard fall early in the competition after being fouled, but still finished strong to make it to the championship court. As Brown grows and adds range she’s going to be someone to keep an eye on in the class of 2013. We always like point guards who are winners and Alexis Eitel from Palm Bay led her team to the 5 on 5 championship with a 20 point win in the final. Eitel who was another left handed guard did an excellent job in the shell defense station having a great understanding of man to man principles. Eitel will join an elite cast of guards at Palm Bay next year in their hopes for continued success in that program.  Nicole Fisher was one of the flashier point guards in the camp and really caught our eye. Fisher who is a great finisher was also one of the best distributers of the ball at the camp. Just as Eitel led her team to wins at camp right now Fisher has her Odyssey team rolling to an undefeated season with the playoffs looming this week. We heard before the camp that Fisher would be an immediate impact in high school next year and after her performance this weekend we definitely agree.  Next we go from probably the flashiest guard in Fisher to the guard who just gets it done in Joanie Gavin. Gavin did not really flash us to death but every time we noticed her she was making a play for her team. Gavin is a solid guard who was also on the championship team with Alexis Eitel.
