are there any 12 inch players out there that feel somebody from our sport should be in the hall of fame? No i dont hate 16 inch or fast pitch. as a matter of fact i was out with the cj's guys tonight celebrating their latest state title. great season and great win guys. what i want to know is when are the regulators or armstrongs or any great players/teams from 12 inch going to be recognised? we play softball too. again, all that have gotten into the hall have deserved it, but will we ever be included? it is suppose to be the softball hall of fame, not the 16 inch/fast pitch hall of fame right? off my soap box now, let me hear your thoughts

This issue has been brought up and looked at by the powers that be in the hall of fame. From what i have heard they will be looking more at the 12 inch game and players that deserve the hall due to what they have done. You have to remember that the people that have been voting the players in have been former fast pitch and 16 inch players, it may take a little time but i believe we will see more 12 inch players getting the looks they deserve soon.

This year one of the pioneers of Cedar Rapids 12/14" softball will be inducted into the CRSHOF. Scott Konecny from Armstrong's and this will be just beginning. You have to understand that getting to the HOF is not an easy task. There are by-laws & qualifications that must be met before one can be considered. Then the voting process and like Billy mentioned most of the HOF voters these days are fast-pitch & 16" slo-pitch players and have never heard or ever seen these guys play the game. It will take some time but it is going to happen.

I realize that it should be extremely hard to get into the HOF. We have tried, without success, to get people like chuck schreiber inducted. He is one example of a man who did so much for our sport his name is on a diamond but was deniend by the hall voters. Our teams arent even invited to play on HOF weekend. We would be happy to play a fun game of 16" with you guys. Personally id love to see CJ's take on a team like Tabu, sugar bears or bad decisions on HOF weekend. One guy getting in is great but a vast amount of players are missing. With all the time going by they may never get the chance to stand with their friends and families on their HOF day like you did.

The game isn't old enough yet to have a ton of guys in. It'll happen. 20 years ago 12" was the game that people played if they couldn't hack it in 16" or fast pitch.

D districts alone 20 years ago had so many teams in it that it took 2 weekends to play. still has more people playing it than 16. debate which game is better if you want but thats not what this is about. I believe that 25 years is enough to get players elected, larry isnt 50 yet and he made it. he deserved it, dont take that wrong!

EASY BUD....CJs hasnt lost to an Iowa team all year and have a 47-1 record, you think Tabu vs CJs would even be worth watching? I dont think so..

Your taking this a little far with your little jabs at people. You had a question and got an answer, you can make arguements all day about people who should be in. Fact is they take 5 or so a year and it takes time, you think Bear just walked right in? He's been putting in work in CR for over 30 years and just last year made the HOF. It isnt easy.

I think it's a great idea to have some of the best 12 inch teams play the best 16 inch teams in the HOF Tournament. Yes I believe CJ's would beat teams like TABU, BD's, Shockers, etc but it would be fun to watch for the shit talking alone.

It exposes the game to 12 inch players who haven't played or haven't played a lot to the 16 inch game in multiple ways. The 12 inch guys surely don't want to lose and when your ego gets touched up a little bit it turns on the fire to do better. That will then fire their spirit to maybe play league at a chance to get back at a team like CJ's.

Then inviting a young up and coming 12 inch team to play as well is also a good idea. As well as opening it up to outside teams (those not in the 16 inch circle)is a good idea vs. saying we are only inviting 4-6 teams and it's closed to the public.

I also think it would be fun to see CJ's play on Wednesday nights in the Open League. It's a two way street to improve softball in Cedar Rapids. I hear how 16 inch teams would tear up 12 inch teams at their own game...we'll let's see it happen.

I have to admit, CJ's vs TABU in a 12 inch game with unlimited home runs would be a very interesting match-up.
Maybe after nationals we can set something up for fun. :)

D Districts had so many teams back then because your league fee automatically entered you into districts...there were tons of forfeits by teams who had no idea they were even in.

They also had C districts back in the mid-90's but there wasn't more than 8-10 teams entered.

No one is debating which game is better, I was simply stating the fact that the 12" game is relatively new compared to 16" and fast pitch in this town which is why you see the disparity of teams/players represented in the HOF.

You're correct to state that there are more teams/players playing 12" than 16" in CR, but that doesn't mean there's more talent playing 12" over 16".

Regardless, someone generally has to be nominated to be considered for the HoF. I'd bet that some of the 90's teams/players will start to get recognition in the coming years. Greg Bosch and Bear both had a lot of connection with the 12" game and will both help with the recognition for those involved. I think you'll start to see some names like Regulators, Williams Media, Worth/Powercell, Solbergs, WW, etc along with players from those teams get in. The Storm/Bosch guys will get recognized for their nationals win as well as the local guys from the Double Deez team that won C Nationals.

Bad Decisions and all of their incarnations will probably be recognized, the Wolfpack teams that won a pair of state titles, and there are others I'm sure.

im sorry if anyone i mentioned thinks a took at jab at them. like i said everyone inducted deserves to be in the HOF. the point of any game between 12" and 16" teams would, and should be, just to show off the range of talent in our city. they could play wiffleball or kickball for all i care. hopefully teams will be invited to participate in some way in the future. i like 16" and like to watch it played and i like 12" and like to watch it played. I'll sit and watch good womans and co-ed teams too. all i hope for is that we can meet and watch each other play on a fun weekend for all. to see the greats of all forms of softball get inducted into the HOF. have a beverage and have fun as softball players and fans.

green thats exactly my point. who did cj's ask if they could play? your point is true though, we should be asking if we can join in. it would be better if we were asked instead of trying to invite ourselves to the party. thats what this discussion is for, to get us more involved.

CJ's has nothing to do with the HOF game. It is run but the HOF members. If you dont know any we can get you in contact with some and you can tell them you would be interested in playing if there was an open spot but I believe they try to get 16" yeams first. Several years back they used to have 12" 16" and fastpitch games and 16" drew the biggest crowd so after a few years they just made it a 16" tourney. Dont take this the wrong way but since they changed it to 16" only I feel it has been a better tourney and if your interested in getting in it next year with a team come out next weekend and I will introduce you to Wigs and you can take it from there. That goes for anyone that is interested in getting in it. This is a invite only tourney so it would be good to show intrest sooner than later

You guys are funny.... who did CJ's ask to play, we should be a aked to play, Tabu vs CJs would be a good game, 16 inch vs 12 inch teams.....

Come on people, this has been a successful tournament for a long time. Why change what isnt broken, be happy they are finally letting 7 Cedar Rapids teams in it. Im glad they are doing it and its cool for the local teams that between CJs, Emils, Roto, Hang Around, and VIP to name a few CR can put together a good tournament and have some good games for local people to come watch. This is ussually one of my favorite weekends of the season and i hope this year is no different, good luck to all the teams playing.

Last weekend was my first experience of a 16" tourny. I came to support and check out a COMPLETELY different game in 16" as compared to 12", I can't stress "completely" enough. I had a blast all weekend and enjoyed the show. I have to admit that 16" has a way more chippy, competitive feel to it and is way more intense, for the most part, because every run counts and in most of the games could decide the winner/loser. Hitting was also a huge difference for me, you can't just go up there and hit the ball as hard as you can (which most do in 12") and hope good things happen, there is an art to cutting and placing the ball that 12" does not seem to stress anywhere near as much.

About the matching my 12" team against CJs... In 16" I think we would be competitive (name me someone who plays anything competitive that doesn't think their team would be) but ultimately we would be guests on THEIR field. They earned the belt and gotta respect that.

About 16" players coming to play 12" against us... I wouldn't even start to talk about a CJs team here but rather the Emil's team I subbed for. That team is absolutely STACKED if they play 12" as most are classified B/C. So I think that comparison is a wash as those guys could play with anyone anywhere.

I think the 12" vs 16" talk is all kind of pointless as the two games are completely different. On strictly a spectator stand point I would give the nod to 16" because every single hit/play/call matters a lot more than 12".

Anyway, just wanted to give the view of a 12" player who participated in my first 16" tourney. It was a lot of fun and I may dabble in 16" a bit more in years to come. Congrats to CJs and thanks again Nate for the invite. If you ever need a runner let me know :)

Both games are great.i just prefer 16 inch.alot of that has to do with my age.12 inch is for the young guys.alot harder on the body.ky trust me.back in 12 inch hay day in the early 2000-2006 the games were just as chippy and intense.i think alot of the young ball players in town are passing up playing 12 inch to play 16.that wasn't the case about 10 years ago.12 inch was much hotter.i think both games go in cycles.12 inch is just down right now.

One thing to remember is that most of the guys playing 16" now started out as 12" guys or started out playing both. A lot of guys still play both or would still play both if it wasn't for the 12" classification system. We (VIP) kicked around the idea of playing 12" districts but didn't have 10 that could for sure qualify as D players.

The Emils team would be a very strong 12" team and CJ's would probably be extremely good as well.

I've been saying this for awhile but I think 14" is a good mix of the games. Kind of brings in aspects of both 12"/16" into play. With the exception of Golden Corrall/Pope Insurance out of Boone, CR has kind of owned 14" in the state for years.

We tried to host a 14" tournament a few years ago down in North Liberty and invite 4 12" teams and 4 16" teams and let them play it out on a 280' fence. We got 2 games in and then it was rained out.

I think it would be a fun thing to do again. I think 14" districts this year was a pretty good tournament. There was a team largely made up of Tabu guys with a few Shockers mixed in that did well. I think Mobb Inc or whatever they were called was mostly 12" guys too and I thought they did ok as well.

I thought the Tabu guys I saw that weekend played pretty well and would no doubt pick up 16" fairly well and enjoy it.
