Q. Where can I get a copy of the rules for my age group, practice or game schedules, sponsorship agreement, member conduct agreement, volunteer application, or the practice schedule?
A. Under the "The League" tab at the top of the page, go to the drop down option for "Documents."

Q. What are the differences in the ball sizes for the different divisions?
A. The 6U and 8U use a 10" R.I.F. softball. (Reduced Injury Factor).
The 10U use an 11" ASA Softball. The 12U divisions and above, use a regulation 12"ASA softball.

Q. Should I register my daughter in the "B" or "C" Classification of her Division and what is the difference?
A. They will be evaluated and selected by the coaches for "B" or "C" based on their performance at the player evaluations. "B" classification is for the more experienced skill level and "C" is for the new or continuing to develop player.

Q. My Daughter is 10 years old, when does she have to move up to the next age Division?
A. The cut-off date for Spring & Fall 2014 is determined by her age on December 31, 2013. If your daughter turned 11 yrs old on or after January 1st, 2014, she can still play in the 10U Division. If your daughter turned 11 years old on December 31, 2013, (a day earlier) she must move up to the 12U Division.

Q. What fields do we practice and play games on and where are they?
A. Majestic Park (Alexander and Hualapai) - Mountain Ridge (I-95 & Durango)
Childrens Memorial Park (Gowan & Rainbow) - Doc Romeo Park (Cheyenne & Tenaya, Behind the Libary)- Katz Elem. School (I-95 & Lake Mead, By the "In & Out Burger) - Johnson Middle School (Alta & Buffalo) - Lied Middle School (215 Beltway & Bradley)

Q. When does the season start? How long does it last?
A. The Fall 2014 Season runs from August through November. Practices begin in mid-August, games begin in September. All games are played on well maintained fields, and schedules are printed prior to the beginning of the season.

Q. What does the league provide?
A. The league provides each girl with a complete uniform, insurance, and ASA registration. The coaches are provided with practice fields, umpire fees, bats, balls, catchers gear & helmets to conduct their practices & games. At the end of the season we have trophies and/or awards for all participants at no extra cost.

Q. My daughter has a helmet, but it doesn't have a face mask/guard. Can she use it?
A. Not until it is properly fitted with a guard. Guards are mandatory in the 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U & 18U Divisions. We do allow our 6U to use non-masked helmets.

Q.Does my daughter need to attend the Playdate/Tryout?
A. The current NWGS draft guidelines require that all girls that are not returning to a team are REQUIRED to attend the Playday/Tryout. Draft Guidelines may be changed annually by the Board of Directors.

Q. What does my daughter need to bring to the Playdate/Tryout?
A. Girls should wear layered comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather. They should have a water bottle. You should also have your own glove. There will be some league provided loaners if necessary.

Q. My daughter wants to be on the same team as her friend, can we do that?
A. If your child is in the 6 & Under division you can request to be placed on the same team and it will be honored as long as your request is made at the time of registering. If your daughter is in the 8U and an older divisions, she will be drafted to a team. You may request a "buddy "on your registration form and sometimes the coaches are able to accommodate your request, however there are no guaranties.

Q. My daughter is in an older division and did not get on the team that she was hoping for. Can she be moved to the other team?
A. Once the draft is over and the teams are legally formed, no players will be moved to other teams within that division for any reason.

Q. It is Sunday and we have not been contacted by a coach and practices are starting Monday. Why hasn't a coach called yet?
A. The Draft is held Saturday afternoon. Your coach will pick up his/her final paperwork and equipment by Sunday. Coaches usually call their players within the next couple of days. Some coaches do not start practicing until the following Saturday. If you do not receive a call by Wednesday, you should call the Player Advocate for your coaches information 702-243-0989.

Q. Are Team sponsors required, how much is it and where does the money go?
A. All Teams must obtain a sponsor. The basic sponsorship fee is $350.00 per team. This money is used to offset the umpire fees, so that no additional monies are required from the parents.

Q. If our team has a team sponsor do we still need to participate in the Bat-A-Thon?
A.Yes. This is a mandatory league fundraiser. It is the only fundraiser the league has and it is only done in the spring. The Bat-A-Thon is applied towards registration fees; city field fees; field maintenance fees; Hawaiian Jamboree; trophies; administrative expenses; Allstar expenses such as tournaments/uniforms/equipment/umpires/etc; and other misc. expenses. These funds pay-off our season debts, then what's left is used to get the next season advertised.

Q. Can you give me an idea of the game schedule?
A. Not until after all teams are formed. The City leases fields based upon the number of registered teams. Until everyone is registered, we are not positive of how much field time we will get at each location. Thereafter, it is based upon the number of teams in each division. The division with the most teams will have games on the fields where we have the most time. The divisions with the least amount of teams will have games on the fields with the least amount of time.

Q. Can you give me an idea of the practice schedule?
A. Not until all teams are formed. Once the teams are formed and we receive the fields, we are required to evaluate the coaches field day/time request and compare that information with the information from the other coaches, as well as other coaches staffing multiple teams, and teams with siblings on other teams in other divisions.

Q: Why does the league take so long to give us the practice schedules?

NWGS shares the fields with other leagues, travel ball teams and whatever the City would like to do at our fields. We have to pay an hourly rental for every field. The fields do not belong to us, they belong to the City of Las Vegas. We merely rent them. We don't know everyones schedules that might be changing at the last minute. We have to pay for the use of the fields as well as lights and when one team isn't using the fields then the J.O. Commissioner will try to save money by not renting it out. Field rental is paid to the City usually Sunday evening's for that week. If 75 ASA teams are renting fields across the city and 5 of them will be canceling practice that week it could save as much $300.00 for that week alone. Scheduling is complicated and involves much more than just filling in a calendar.

Q. How can I run for a position on the Executive Board?
A. At the end of each spring we hold elections for various positions on the Executive Board. Candidates need to be nominated by a member in good standing one week prior to the election. Candidates are encouraged to show that they are serious by volunteering on committees and helping with various task prior to their candidacy. Candidates should be positive and must refrain from engaging in negative campaigning at all times.

Q. I want to be a coach. What do I need to do?
A. In order to coach, you must be in good standing with the league. You will also need to contact the Player Advocate at 702-243-0989. Let her know what division you are interested in coaching. Also, go to the "online forms" section of our website and complete a Volunteer Application and mail it to: NWGS P.O. Box 34721 Las Vegas NV 89133. Thereafter, your application will be processed thru our hired investigative services and/or Metro. If you're "clean", you will be placed on the list. Once the spring registrations begin and we are informed as to which coaches are returning, we will let you know if there is an opening.

Q. If I’m the Coach, is my daughter automatically placed on my team and who else can I take?
A. If you coach a team, your daughter will count as 1 draft pick. Beyond that, you need to review the Draft Rules located in the handout section of our website.

Q. Our team does not have a team sponsor, but I have a sponsor for a tournament and we collected some money to purchase some cool visors. Is this allowed?
A. Absolutely not! Each team is a part of this league and responsible to help alleviate it's debt. Any team without a sponsor that receives money for a tournament or accessories is required to turn the funds over (up to $350.00) to help cover their share of expenses. Failure to do so, or misappropriation of funds will result in suspension of the coaching staff.

Q. My daughter did not participate in the Bat-A-Thon, but she wants to tryout for Allstars. Can I just give you $40.00 if she makes the Allstar team?
A. In order to be eligible to try-out for Allstars, a player must have participated in the Bat-A-Thon prior to the cut-off date.

Q. My daughter does not plan on trying out for Allstars, do we have to do the Bat-A-Thon?
A. Yes. When you registered your daughter for the spring season, you sign an agreement wherein you agreed to participate in our mandatory fundraiser. This league relies solely on volunteers and donations to meet its expenses. None of our volunteers receive a fee for their services. 100% of the donations received are used for the expenses associated with running this league.

Q. I cannot find the information I'm looking for on your website. Who should I contact?
A. You can email us at nwgs@yahoo.com and we will respond within 48 hours. Also, you can call any of our Board Members. Their telephone numbers are located on our website under "Board of Directors".

Q. What is the league's history?
A. The "Original" Northwest Girls Softball League:

The Northwest Girls Softball League orginated in 1995 and was originally sanctioned "Bobby Soxs". Its founders were Steve & Pam Sphar as well as Richard & Julie Luna.

In 1996, The Founders joined forces with its two sister leagues, Sunrise Girls Softball and Spring Valley Bobby Sox to form a Nevada sanctioning body called Southern Nevada Fastpitch Association. This new sanctioning body was governed by the three local Las Vegas leagues and played ball governed by the rules of the Amatuer Softball Association. Since the three leagues were relatively small in size, and Las Vegas Valley was also relatively small, it made sense for these Leagues to bann together under this "homegrown" association to play and interleague its teams. Together, the three Leagues pioneered the recreational softball program for the Las Vegas Valley. It wasn't long before the larger sanctioning softball organizations began to take notice.

As the Las Vegas Valley grew, (with major explosive growth in the northwest area) the Northwest Girls softball League grew to become what is know today as "The Largest Girls Softball League in Las Vegas". The league uses the same rules and regulations used by most Tournament class Softball Associations. Offering 2 Classifications of play, C Ball and B Ball as well as All Stars in both classifications. Over the years, this league has served as a catalyst for many young female athletes to play High School ball, Travel Ball and continue on to receive scholarships and play College Ball.

The "Original" Northwest Girls Softball league along with the Amateur Softball Association continues to serve the Northwest Las Vegas community and continue to provide a rewarding softball experience to both recreational and tournament softball players in Las Vegas, Nevada. It provides an environment for softball skill and character development for the benefit of young girls in the community. This League is sponsored by many organizations in and around the Las Vegas Valley. We would like to thank those organizations and individuals.

When I registered my daughter it asked for uniform sizes and I entered what I thought BUT after she tried on the uniforms at the Draft/Tryouts, I found that I entered the wrong pants size and I can't find where I could change it or do I go through her coach for uniform sizes? I know they said we needed to remember the sizes.

You simply tell your coach what size fit best when you tried the uniforms on. Go through your head coach. We did not use the info you entered when you registered.
