Has everyone been informed of the new rule change regarding the format of EMass?? I would be interested to hear everyones thoughts on no longer having small, medium, or large in all skill levels.
Also, there are no longer league champs, only EMass Level 1, 2, 3, 4 champs, so there is no need to have a second round of competition in EMass right??

I agree with the no changes regarding sm/ med/ lg in the higher level 4, it allows for more competion. I have not heard about the league champions being omitted ?
I would like to hear about that ? would that make the Emass competition huge ?? Does that mean leauges ... every one moves on or they just give team places with no award ?

The change has already been made that all teams in all levels will compete against each other regardless of size or league. There are no longer small against small, medium against medium, and large against large in all skill levels, not just 4. Also, there are no longer league champions, only 1 champion for each division for each skill level. No competition has been eliminated yet, but why would there be a need for a second one if Emass is going to award 1st place to the highest scorer regardless of squad size or league??

Just trying to understand how the format will work.

There seems to be some confusion on an email that was sent out by the league directors to their coordinators. EMASS format has not changed!. What did change is the number of trophies that will be awarded at our league competition on October 5 & 12th. Hope this clears things up

So besides the number of trophies is everything the same? Or do small medium and large all competing against each other in the same level because that was the case I don't understand why they would even make them them declear small medium or large there would be no point.I think I'll just go to the competitions and see what happens cause that's when you know .sometimes people hear things and say things and it gets turned into a game of telephone so I guess I'll just wait and see what happens happens

If Lynette says NOTHING HAS CHANGED than its the truth. I understand your question and she is saying NOTHING HAS CHANGED except the number of trophies. so yes there is still small medium and large divisions. Only the top 2 teams in each division will advance with no teams qualifying so therefore less trophies.

Nothing has changed for the Eastern Mass competition on October 26, 2013.

On October 5th this is how the awards will go. All JPW teams will compete against each other for the Top Score in each of the levels P1, P2, P3 and P4 Trophy, same will hold true for Jr. Midgets, doesn't matter if they are small, medium or large. Again, this has nothing to do with Eastern Mass competition at the end of October. If you still have questions, please contact your league director. Looking forward to a great season!

I guess I should of mentioned that once those awards are announced, then the teams moving on to Eastern Mass in each level/division will be announced just like any other year. example: JPW Small P1, Med P1, Large P1 etc. Hope this clears this ups.

Lynette, in regards to the League comp, please clarify this. within the emass conference we have merrimack valley, gbl, northshore etc.. will each of these leagues still only compete against their own league and first and second place move on or will they all be grouped together like it is at emass??

Hi,

They will all compete against each other, just like at Eastern Mass, the number of teams moving on will be decided once we see what we have in each division/level/size.

Really? So then there will only be 4 trophies at each session of competition. A level 1, 2, 3 & 4 trophy?

Pop warner has divided things into so many categories that they have made it so there's hardly any competition. Then they say "never mind your size and league at the first competition"? There are so many "teams moving on" at each competition that the one thing that made leagues and EMASS more palatable than the NE Regional Qualifiers was that you were competing for your league or conference title. What is the title for the team who finishes 1st in their level in Lawrence? Not EMASS champion since that's Lowell. ???? Seems to me that they have now turned leagues into an EMASS qualifier and I'm guessing that will go over as well as the NE Regional Qualifiers did since teams don't seem to "Qualify" to move on, they simply decide how many teams they have time and space for and that's how they come up with what "qualifies" a team to move on. ??

The name of the competition in Lawrence, since it started, has been the Eastern Mass Qualifier, it is what it is. The Individual League comps were discontinued a few years ago because there weren't enough teams in each League to really call it a competition any longer and to rent out four facilities for these comps was too much $$.

It pretty much sounds like there will be a Grand Champion for each Level announced like all stars and then the teams that qualify. So for example JPW Level 1 Eastern MA Qualifier Champion etc.

Trying to do the right thing by all is hard when there aren't enough teams in a level/division/size. We are trying to put more competition back into the comps and this is what we came up with. Doesn't mean it's right or wrong, but it does mean there will be competition and the highest score will truely be the champion for that level. When you look at scores from last year, we had P2 teams with higher scores then P3 teams, and P3 with higher scores then P4, why because every team could get a maximum of 100. Just because you're a higher level, doesn't mean you are going to get the highest score. The scoring system changed and we need to change with it, but continue to be the strongest conference in NE. Sorry if people are upset, but please give it a chance before starting negative posts.
Thanks!

I suggest you meet with your board members and explain that there has been a change in how leagues are done this year. I am pretty sure they will allow teams to move on to Eastern Mass, but after that they have to place 1st or 2nd. Reminder this is just for league competition. Eastern Mass and Regionals are still the same. 1st & 2nd Places will move on.

Before we all freak out, why don't we wait and see how it will go down? You never know .... you might like it!

I understand that the first competition has been referred to as EMASS qualifiers before now, however, it has still been conducted as leagues up until now since teams only competed against other teams in their league. They simply combined all the leagues into one location. I don't have a problem with making a change but I don't see how it's going to help. The first competition SHOULD have more teams than EMASS (If some teams actually get eliminated). So, when there are MORE teams competing, they open it up and disregard some of the categorizing that narrows down the competition. Then, at the next competition when there are (should be) LESS teams, they put the category separators back in place which will only narrow the competition further. ?? It seems like they should have done it the other way around. (I'm sure that scenario has a ton of issues of it's own) I appreciate that our region is trying to work a better situation to deal with the changes made by Pop Warner. It just doesn't make sense why they kept narrowing it down first by adding another size and then another level and then left everyone scrambling trying to figure out how to create broader competition. I'm sure it will all play out with some people happy and some people not as it usually does and it'll all be fine but I hope our league and conference directors that have to deal with our gripes are giving the national people their 2 cents!

I understand it to be that at the first competition in Lawrence, instead of awarding a first place champion in each individual league, they will trophy the first place champion team from the combined leagues for every division and level and then announcing all other teams that will move on to eastern mass in Lowell. At that competiton, I believe it to be that ONLY the first place and second place winners will be moving on to regionals, no invites, just top two teams. Am I understanding correctly???

Lisa, Trophies will be awarded to top Score in P1, P2, P3, P4 for each division. JPW, PW, JM, Mid. Then teams moving on to EMASS will be announced.

I am really happy about the change in awards for the Lawrence comps! Sitting through all those awards of League champ for EVERY division was painful and no longer relevent.
