| Back when I was in middle school I had a friend named Brad Sager. He played baseball in Goodlettsville and went to White House. He was run over by a car speeding by the park when he was going after a foul ball to return it to the game. I have sat for two years know and watched the cars speeding in our white House Park. I see the WHPD up there and doing their job driving through, but that’s not enough. As parents and park members we must start doing something our self to help the WHPD and the WHDY Board members to make the park safer. I realize we have not to this point had any accidents, but I would much rather start doing something about the speeding in the park prior to any accident. The park is supposed to be a place where everyone can go and have a safe fun time. I personally hold my sons hand walking across any parking lot, but I see children of all ages walking between cars and getting close to hit because drivers are speeding. The speed limit in the park is 15MPH. yes it is posted but do we have to do the speed limit in the park. Is it really necessary to go any faster than 5 or 10 MPH? I ask this because I personally only do 5-7 MPH in the park. I am in no way saying I am perfect, nor make mistakes, but I think we should try to make every effort to do better in our park. Back when I went to Brad’s funeral I can remember it vividly! He was in his Padres uniform, and I cannot help but think back today as I write this what would he have been today? Would he have been one of those kids that made it to the big leagues? Would he have been the DR to help fight cancer? Would he be the teacher that our kids look up to and respect? I do not know the answer to that, but what I do know is, the life lost was tragic. I would like to challenge everyone that drives and or has a young person in their home that drives to talk to them about speeding in the park. I would hate to see someone lose a loved one because a driver felt that 5-10 MPH was just too slow to drive through the park at White House. Please help me in my pursuit to make our park safer by simply slowing down and helping the WHPD and the WHDY Board members. It is their job to enforce the laws but it is far more our job as drivers to slow down and take an extra second or two and be mindful of our speed in a place where safety is so important.
