Freedom place 3rd at inaugural FPYC Libery Cup
April 1, 2008
The FPYC Freedom kicked off the Spring 2008 season by placing 3rd (out of 6 teams) at the Liberty Cup, held at South Run and Patriot Park over the March 29/30 weekend. The Freedom finished 1-1-2 with Katie recording 3 1/2 games with no goals scored against. Considering the lack of practices, this was an excellent start to the season!! Go Freedom!
Fall 2008 U16 Tryouts Are Coming!
The Freedom, currently an ODSL Division 1 U15 Girls travel team, is looking for talented, physically fit, confident and motivated players for the upcoming Fall (2008) U16 Girls travel soccer season. Players should be born on or after 08/01/92. We will be looking at interested players throughout the summer and will schedule tryouts accordingly. If you are a competitive player who loves the game and loves to work hard, we want you!
The Freedom are based in the City of Fairfax and hold practices in that area throughout the year. Emphasis is on effort and improvement during practice and games. Individual goals center around technique, tactics, team skills, confidence, fitness, and being good and supportive teammates. Goalkeeper candidates welcome! The Freedom also participate in tournaments, indoor winter soccer, and team training programs throughout the year. We also hold informal get-togethers, team-building excursions, and fundraisers during the season. Interested players should contact Coach Jon at fpcyfreedom@comcast.net or call 571-331-2909 for more information.
Freedom Win Patriot Cup 2006!
September 4, 2006
South Run Park - In a bitterly contested final game versus the Vienna Comets, the Freedom held on to win the championship in penalty kicks, 3-2.
After losing to those same Comets 1-0 (on an own goal) in the first of two games on a modified Sunday schedule, the Freedom won a hard-fought game against the BRYC NV United 1-0, with a goal in the final minute of the contest. By the tie-breaker system in place, the Freedom were then able to move into the championship rematch.
The first-half of the game was nearly all Freedom, eventually going up 4-0 before the Comets put one in right before the half. Oliva (2), Gunner and Alisha all scored, either on their own or from great assists and the Freedom felt very comfortable (maybe too comfortable) going into the second half that the Comets couldn't possibly make up the difference.
The Comets, however, didn't agree with that assessment and came out with renewed energy, intensity, and speed. The Freedom defense was continuously assualted from a variety of great combinations and runs that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Eventually the Comets did make up the difference, evening the score at 4-4 as we headed into overtime.
During both overtimes, either team could have won the game outright but were stymied by great goalkeeping and unlucky shots on both ends. At the end of regulation, the penalty kick shootout was held in near darkness as both teams and keepers tried to get ahead in converted kicks. After 9 of the first 10 kickers were finished, the score was tied 2-2, with only Alisha left to kick. She put in a beautiful shot to the lower left corner beyond the outstretched hands of the diving Comet keeper, finally ending our most draining game to date.
Congratulations girls on playing an exceptional set of games and in perservering in your determination to win the game and the championship. We couldn't ask for a better effort than was given by all. Go Freedom!!
Freedom Take Division 3 Title!
June 11, 2006
The FPYC Freedom clinched the U13 Girls ODSL Division 3 Title with a near-perfect effort against Winchester United. With a final score of 5-1, the Freedom clinched the division for the first time in their 4 season history. After winning the Randy Rawls Sportsmanship award for the Fall 2005-06 season, the girls came into the Spring ready to work hard and improve themselves and they did just that. With the most supportive and positive parents a team could wish for, the girls finally made all of their hard work pay off with a tremendous accomplishment. We, their coaches, are so proud of them, their spirit, their teamwork, and their efforts. And we couldn't be blessed with a better group of kids.
Next year, teams will be gunning for us so let's keeping working hard and get ready to defend out title! We know you can do it! Way to go FREEDOM!!!

Freedom work sidelines at Navy game
October 8, 2004
The Freedom were privileged to be offical ball girls for the Navy Ladies soccer team at Annapolis on Friday night! It was a long drive in Columbus Day traffic, but well worth it, as the girls had a sideline view of all the action while they provided ball support to the players.
We were even able to meet (and get an autograph) of Hall of Famer Carin Gabarra, who coaches the "Middies".
A great time was had by all!
