Four Goal Offensive Outburst Nets Consolation Match
Team 12 Score
Stronghold Soccer Club Milan 01 1
Plainedge Blasters 13 4
Our third and final match of the 2006 JAGS Premier Invitational was a consolation match with the Stronghold Soccer Club's SSC Milan, the third place finishers against the Hibernian Crush and Bethesda Sharks in a talent laden field. The SSC Milan have been participating in the Colonial Premier League throughout the Spring 2006 campaign. Getting the first goal against a Region One Premier rival followed by three second half strikes, the Plainedge Blasters secured a 4-1 tournament closing victory.

Scoring opened with three minutes remaining in the first half as Meredith scored on a header from just inside the left post for a 1-0 halftime lead. Tori got the assist on a strong cross. Plainedge had the better of the possession throughout the first half and our leading for the first time during our three games in the 2006 JAGS Tournament was a well earned result.

Ten minutes into the second half, Saulty doubled the lead unassisted as she beat two defenders with a well-struck, right-footed shot that was an upper corner score. At the twenty minute mark, Tori scored on a pass from Carly for a 3-0 advantage. SSC Milan countered with six minutes remaining on a shot from left-to-right that hit the post and caromed into the net. The Blasters wanted to open the lead back to three goals before the end of the game and met that challenge with just two minutes remaining. Mere crossed a ball from the right side that was flicked by Tori onto Jen's foot for a game closing score, 4-1.

This was a strong effort from the entire team. Ashley anchored our game from the back with outstanding support from Brooke, Campy, and a rotation of players. Our second half defensive formation was joined in full force by Meghan who played her first match for the Blasters. Liz played well until her game ending ankle roll just before the close of the first half. Nicki, Gina, and Katie were motoring throughout the tournament closing victory.
