MARAUDERS ADVANCE IN CIF PLAYOFFS WITH VICTORY

Mira Mesa defeated Mission Hills 7-2 on Friday afternoon, using a balanced offensive attack, strong defense and a solid effort by freshman pitcher Alicia Garcia. The Marauders started with a bang as Katiyana Mauga hit a 2-run HR, and Mercedes Humphrey drilled a solo shot deep over the leftfield fence in the 1st inning. After the Grizzlies scored two in the 3rd to cut the lead, Mira Mesa responded with one in the bottom of the 3rd as Humphrey drove in K. Mauga with a fielder's choice. The Marauders broke the game open in the 4th as Amber Ratza singled and Marissa Rillo, Lani Vanta and Quirisa Mauga hit consecutive RBI doubles. Garcia showed a lot of poise in her first career playoff game, and with the support of catcher Tani Leasau and an outstanding defensive performance, limited Mission Hills to just the two runs in the 3rd.
