Thunder Starts 2010 Campaign with Sweep of Indians
The Bridgetown Thunder opened up the 2010 season with a doubleheader sweep of the Indians, 6-0 and 7-4, on Sunday afternoon at Sckavone Field. In the first game, three Thunder pitchers combined on a two-hitter while Sam Pogue and Adam Kartheu drove in two runs each. Mike Padgett started for the Thunder, going three hitless innings, striking out two. Manny Varguez, one of six Bridgetown rookies on the roster, relieved Padgett and was nearly as efficient, surrendering two hits and striking out one. Jared Sanders closed out the victory by pitching a hitless seventh on just eight pitches.
The Thunder offense scored its first run of the season in the top of the second inning. Kartheu lined a two-out single to right, scoring Sanders and giving Bridgetown a lead it wouldn’t relinquish. The Thunder added four more runs in the fourth inning. Matt Guilfoyle and Sanders, who had two hits in the game, doubled. Padgett then grounded back to the pitcher, but the throw to first was wild, allowing Guilfoyle to score from third. Pogue then singled in both Sanders and Padgett and Kartheu followed with a bloop double that plated Pogue. A double steal by Kyle Henderson and Jon Holman in the seventh completed the Thunder scoring.
