Yankees Roll Over D-Backs
It wasn't pretty. The shorthanded D-backs never really got it going until it was too late.
Yankees starter John Calmes pitched 5 scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and striking out six. For the pinstripes, Taylor Shoop was 5-6 with 4 rbi's including two doubles.Chris Powell went 3-7 in the leadoff spot. Vince Teixeira had three hits including a solo bomb. Fred Goetschel came out of his slump going 4-6. Koenig,Mendoza,Gontmaher and Entekin each had a couple of knocks, but the unexpected runs came off of the bat of starting pitcher John Calmes who had to pinch hit in the eighth. That's right...with the sacks loaded, he went yard for only the second time in his long career to give the Yanks a 23-0 lead. The
D-backs managed to score 4 unearned runs on a rare pinstripe error to kill the shutout, making the final 23-4. Paget,Townsend, Grayson and D. Lewis had a couple of hits for the snakes.
