K. MAUGA DRILLS WALK-OFF GRAND SLAM FOR MARAUDERS

Charger Invitational
At Big League Dreams in Las Vegas, two schools with championship aspirations settled for a battle in the third-place game, with Mira Mesa pulling out a shocking 5-3 decision over Santana in a contest decided with a variation of the international tiebreaker.
KATIYANA MAUGA delivered the game-winning blow, rocking a walk-off, grand slam homer. It was the fourth time in as many losses that the Sultans (12-4) gave up the decisive run in their opponents' final at-bat.
The teams played to a 1-1 tie through six innings when the tournament clock expired, so the ITB began with runners on second and third bases (instead of the traditional runner on second).
For Santana, both placed baserunners scored on a booming double by sophomore KYLIE BRASE, who went to the opposite field in right-center for a 3-1 advantage. Placed baserunners TARA GRENNAN and ASHLEE GROOVER scored.
However, Mira Mesa answered with just one swing of the bat. Following a one-out walk to load the bases, Mauga followed with her third homer on the day to win it. She also went deep twice against Cathedral Catholic, but the Lady Dons still won to gain a berth in the Black Division title game.
AMBER SCHISLER, who registered three homers on Monday, extended her East County lead with a solo homer in the 4th off Marauders pitcher LANI VANTA. However, Mira Mesa got even on a MERCEDES HUMPHREY homer in the 5th.
