Radnor Edges Past Marple 3-1
The Raiders scored two runs in the first inning, and maintained the slim lead throughout the game on the way to a 3-1 win over rival Marple Newtown.
After escaping a bases loaded situation with no runs in the top of the 1st, Carolyn Eckstein started the rally with a one out single. Carolyn stole 2B and went to third after the throw went into centerfield. Brooke Nicander followed with a two strike RBI single to drive in Carolyn with the first run. Courtesy runner Maura Holst advanced to 2B on a ground out, then stole 3B before scoring on Cate Remphrey's two out RBI smash right into the third baseman.
On the mound, Brooke continued to dance her way out of trouble, before finally allowing a run on a two out single in the top of the 4th. However, Radnor responded in the bottom of the fourth when Sophia Royle bashed a triple to right center field to drive in Kim Mullarkey who had walked with one out.
Radnor wouldn't score again, but held off Marple for a 3-1 win.
Cate ended up 2-3 with an RBI, and Brooke was 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored. And of course Sophia had the big triple to score Kim and rebuild the two run advantage.
Brooke pitched her third complete game in three days, allowing only 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 5.
Radnor plays one more game this week, facing Harriton tomorrow in a 7 pm home night game.
