Rosenblum Triple, Aljian Hustle Break Game Open for Radnor
Radnor played a very clean softball game in defeating Lower Merion 5-0.
The Raiders jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after Brooke Nicander singled in Audrey Rosenblum, who had led off with a walk. Lower Merion limited the damage by making a strong throw to the plate to nail Sarah Rosenblum, who had singled after Audrey's walk.
However the Lower Merion pitcher settled down and held Radnor scoreless for three innings. On the other side, Brooke was cruising through Lower Merion, facing only one batter over the minimum through 5 innings (16 batters, no hits, no walks).
Emily Madden led off the bottom of the 5th with a single, and after pinch runner Maura Holst stole second, Audrey came through with a big one out triple to left field to double the lead to 2-0. With two outs, Sydney Aljian hustled down the line to beat out an infield single scoring Audrey. Sydney then stole 2nd and 3rd, before Brooke lined her second RBI single to right center field to make the score 4-0. Grace Moore then crushed a triple to the fence in left field, to make the lead 5-0.
Libby Tewksbury came on in the 6th and after allowing a walk and a single, then retired the top three hitters for Lower Merion on ground balls to escape the 6th with no runs. Libby then cruised through the 7th, mowing down the 4-5-6 hitters.
For the day, Audrey was 1 for 2 with a triple and a walk, scored two runs and drove in one. Sydney was 2 for 3, with a run scored, 3 stolen bases and an RBI. Brooke was also 2 for 3, with one run scored and 2 runs driven in. Grace had the big RBI triple, and Carolyn Eckstein stole three bases.
Defensively, Grace Moore made several outstanding, mind boggling plays at first base, and Sarah had a great assist from right field to 1B. Sydney and Micaela Myers also made nice plays in the infield.
The Raiders improved to 4-3 overall, 3-2 in the Central League, and travel to Garnet Valley tomorrow for a big Central League tilt.
