Sharks Upset BIshop Kenny
Ponte Vedra made the most of their first trip to the regional tournament a resounding success by winning a stunning come from behind 51-50 win over heavily favored Bishop Kenny.
Trailing the Crusaders by four points with less than four minutes remaining, Ponte Vedra’s Beau Beech, following a steal and pass from Jackson Johnson, drilled a three point shot to pull the Sharks within one.
Johnson moments later also hit a three pointer to give the Sharks the lead with 3:15 remaining. Bishop Kenny’s 6’7 senior center Brian Dawkins then completed a three-point play to regain the lead for the visiting Crusaders.
Johnson was fouled and then made both of his free throws to tie the game at the two minute mark. Beech electrified the crowd with a tumultuous dunk and the Sharks never trailed the rest of the game.
Beech led all scorers with 25 points with Johnson chipping in with 12, including a perfect 6 of 6 on free throws made with the game on the line in the final moments. Johnson also dished out a Shark school record nine assists.
Dawkins paced the Crusaders with 19 tallies with Brennan Sullivan adding 18 for Bishop Kenny.
