Panthers Black Out Wildcats
On Senior Night the Vista coaches brought forth a new game plan that had to look of something old and familiar. Not only did the Panthers make their entrance on Senior Night donning the All-Black look of 10 years past, but the Panthers also implemented a ground and pound approach on offense. The difference was felt immediately as the Panthers took their first possession from scrimmage and marched 70 yards, all on the ground, and consumed over 7 minutes of clock.
It was only fitting then that the Defense would step up and fill their Blackshirts as if there was magic to found in the uniforms themselves even if Halloween was the night before. Certainly to excitement sparked the crowd initially, but the players, showing hustle and desire, were the real reason behind the resurgent effort. El Camino found no running room in the first half as the defense pursued the ball as well as any Vista within recent memory.
Vista's all around team play lead to a 17-0 halftime lead and the Panthers came right out of the intermission break, forced a turnover and quickly cashed that in for 24-0 advantage 90 seconds into the 3rd quarter. After Vista extended the lead to 27-0, El Camino showed a sign of life, but that was short-lived as the defense would allow nothing further and the Big Red Offense controlled the clock the remained of the game and tacked on a 4th quarter field goal for the final margin.
Vista improves to 1-2 in Avocado West play and 2-7 overall. The Panthers have chance to even their league record and make a case for a playoff berth if they can take win at Carlsbad next week. The Panthers' strength of schedule and League strength gives Vista fair claim should they earn one more W.
