Game two from the 2006 Kirkwood Invitational Tournament saw the Commack Blasters, winners of their opening game, take on the Spirit United, winners of their opening game. The winner of this match earned a guaranteed spot in Sunday's Semi-Final matches.

The Blasters started well in this game as they closed the opener, but the Surge were the first to hit the board, taking with wind in the first half. In minute six, three defensive miscues coupled to some good offensive play by the Surge opened the scoring at 1-0. The entire team responded by pushing up the field constantly but could not get a clear opportunity. Jen Melon had the crispest shot of the half, a hard rising ball that was saved. Throughout the half, Spirit was playing a centralized defensive that our wide forwards and midfielders were not effectively challenging. In the closing minute of the half, Sara made an outstanding save on a Surge set piece from twenty yards out that kept an obvious scoring chance for the Spirit United in check.

After halftime and now with the wind, the Blasters again controlled the pace and tempo resulting in a fifth minute goal. On a set piece from the midfield, Alyssa struck a long ball that bounced once in the box and Nicky selflessly placed a foot on the ball before falling hard, but the shot beat the keeper for a score leveling goal. The pressure continued as the Surge was back on their heals and minute seventeen saw Commack take control as Nicky hit Katie with a pass that was slotted to Saulty. Mere's quick shot from the left side was on the ground and perfectly placed inside the right post from eight yards out for a game winning 2-1 goal.

The win guaranteed that the Commack Blasters would have a semi-final cross-over match on Sunday. The entire team put up good efforts today and certainly gave a great first day accounting of themselves. Congratulations to Campy for earning the MVP Award presented by the opposing coaches.
