Missed Opportunities to Seal Win Early are Costly LateThe Sunday game from the 2008 PDA Girls College Showcase pitted the Commack Blasters with the YMS Speed Demons from Pennsylvania. A dominant Blasters first half resulted in only one goal which kept the YMS team in the game. Coming back with two goals, the Speed Demons took this game, 2-1.
Scoring opened in the thirteenth minute as Katie placed another corner kick just off the goal line which Liz perfectly headed into the net for a 1-0 advantage which stood through halftime. YMS equalized in the tenth minute of the second half and took the lead with ten minutes remaining on a ball played centrally that was put into the goal on the far post. Campy was initially on defense but played offense in a demonstration of her versatility for the coach from St. Rose. Meghan came back from a stomach virus on Saturday to play during today's match. Jen, Brooke, and LB were solid during their defensive minutes. Katie played strongly during a nearly full game performance on the outside midfield position in our 3-4-3 set. Taryn was strong in the central midfield, using her strength wisely and working with Liz as center forward to switch positions and overlap while attempting to confuse the YMS defensive foursome. Saulty was hard charging throughout the first half and Mere gave quality time on the outside midfield. Carly caught the attention of coaches including her own from SUNY/Binghamton. Kiersten worked hard during her minutes and Tori made excellent runs as she is finding her way back to the pitch. College coaches attending this contest included Yale University, Vassar College, College of St. Rose, SUNY/Binghamton, East Carolina, Kenyon, California, Canisius, Amherst, UMBC, Mansfield (Pennsylvania), Brown, Florida International, Princeton, and Bucknell.
