TRIPLE GOALS SEAL CLASICO WIN FOR TYNESIDE
    By: Phillip Detmer, TynesideUnited.com

DECEMBER 14 2008 (LAS VEGAS, NV) -- A go ahead goal by Angelo Soro and a pair of second half goals by Javier Hernandez and Ben Stott gave Tyneside United a dramatic win over bitter rivals Caesars Palace FC in a tense LVMSL Championship Title encounter at the McCarran Marketplace Park this afternoon.

A third place consolation game between Mexico DF and Stella Clavisque also kicked-off prior to the Championship final. The teams battled to a 3-3 draw and Stella edged Mexico DF on penalty-kicks to win third place in their first appearance in the LVMSL.

Tyneside United and Caesars Palace were making their second appearance in the league final in as many seasons. Tyneside United held the edge as returning league champions, but Caesars Palace had a boost of confidence from their 4-1 win over Tyneside just a month ago.

Tyneside trounced Caesars 4-1 in last years league final, but Caesars gave a stronger account of themselves early on, nearly taking the lead after 14 minutes when Ricky Suazo made a powerful run from the halfway line, beating two Tyneside defenders before firing just wide.

Caesars dominated the start of the contest, outshooting Tyneside 5-2 in the early going. However, the scoreless tie evaporated in the 30th minute as Soro took a feed in front of the Caesars Palace goal and blasted his shot off the keeper's chest from about 12 yards out.

Collecting the ensuing rebound, Soro settled the ball after a bounce, and guided his second shot through three defenders and to the left of diving Caesars keeper Julio Flores, whose 5'9 frame wasn't long enough to stop the one-hopper.

That's where the score remained until the second half when Tyneside added a pair of goals to put any hopes of a Caesars comeback attempt to rest.

Tyneside midfielder Javier Hernandez found himself uncontested in the 68th minute, and received the back end of a perfectly executed flicked on header by Brendon Bain before shuttling his shot past Flores' right for a 2-nil lead. "I am looking forward to doing it again and coming back next season", says Hernandez of his hand in the win. "We wanted it more and we we're the better team. We came out and took care of business".

Midfielder Ben Stott then put the proverbial icing on the cake less than 10 minutes later by rocketing his free-kick shot to the far post following a foul outside the eighteen-yard box, setting off a wild celebration on the Tyneside sidelines.

“Complete satisfaction," said a jubilant Jeff Canarelli, about the win, and the season. "This team has come together at the right time, played its best soccer at the end of the season and played to its ultimate potential. The team has been great over the past 2 or 3 weeks. I can’t be more proud of our team because they played their best in these games that counted most, and that’s all I can ever ask of them."

Tyneside, which finishes its Championship season at 14-3-2 (W-L-D), got hot at the right time as the team posted a 11-game unbeaten streak to end 2008, in which they outscored their opponents 22-5, and posted 8 wins via shutout.

They disposed of the top ranked Mexico DF 2-1 in the Semi-Final Championship on December 7th before blasting Caesars to win the LVMSL Championship.

This marks the second LVMSL Title for the Tyneside United Soccer Club program after the team won their first in a 4-1 thriller over Caesars Palace in May 2008, and the eighth overall Nevada League Championship Title since the team was formed in 2001.
