2009 Temecula Soccer Classic Tournament
 Tyneside United beat Real FC 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out to win the 2009 Temecula Holiday Soccer Classic Tournament after sensationally coming from two goals down in the first half.
Real FC scored against the run of play in the 5th minute from a long throw in that was headed in from the far post. Real FC doubled their lead in the 10th minute on a break-away and giving the Long Beach team a seemingly unassailable lead.
Jeff Canarelli gave Tyneside hope with just a minute left before the end of the first half by converting a free kick shot from 25-yards out. Reggie Bolden was on a break-away run towards goal when a Real FC defender brought him down on a harsh tackle, which resulted in a red card for the challenge. Canarelli stepped up and blasted his shot around the wall and into the upper left corner of the net.
In the second half, Tyneside dominated possession against a 10-man Real FC, however the team struggled to find the back of the net. On three occasions Tyneside came close to leveling the score, only to see the ball deflect off the post. Just as all seemed lost, Tyneside got a lucky break from a Real FC blunder.
A long ball was launched toward goal and a Real FC defender under pressure attempted to clear a ball but mis-kicked it into his goal and sent the game into penalty-kicks.
Geoff Barto stepped up to take the first kick for Tyneside and calmly blasted his shot past the diving Real goalkeeper. Ben Stott took the second and matched the result with a well placed shot to the right corner. Next up was Emma Ayim. Emma sent the goalkeeper diving the wrong way to keep Tyneside in the hunt. Javier Hernandez took the fourth penalty and was true to form as he placed his shot out of reach and gave Emmet Mielbrecht a chance to make one of the biggest saves in Tyneside’s club history. Emmet guessed correctly on two of Real’s previous attempts but came up just short. However during Real’s fourth attempt, Emmet dove to his left and blocked the shot to give Tyneside its first out of state tournament victory in over 8 years.
