Cardinals split with lebanon
The Geneva Cardinals traveled south west this weekend to play the Lebanon Merchants on sunday and split the twin bill with the home team, dropping game one in extra innings 5-4 and winning game two 5-0 before the rain came.
In game one, Jaime Feldheiser (Ossian, Butler U) started the game and put in a strong 5 inning performance, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits while walking two to go with his two strike outs. He was replaced by Anthony Hammond (Monroe, Tri-state U) who was saddled with the loss as he went three innings and gave up two runs on 4 hits while striking out 2.
Hitting was led by Travis Case (Monroe, Tri-state) as he went two for four with two singles, Josh Selvey (Redkey, Tri-state) added a hit as did Chris Jarrett (Hagerstown, Anderson U).
In game two, the redbirds showed patience at the plate drawing 8 walks in the rain shortened contest. But they made the most of them as Chris Jarrett added to his stolen base total with two more in game two, Kyle Klinker (Van Wert, Tiffin U) added a hit and and RBI, Aaron Wilder (Decatur, Marian college) singled as well.
On the Hill, the Cardinals dominated game two as Aaron wilder started the game with 4 innings of shut out ball striking out three whil walking two and giving up two hits. Jordan Liett (Versailles, OH, Limeston College) threw one inning of scoreless relief before the rains came.
The Cardinals play at home in Geneva on Tuesday against the Lima Buckeyes with Corey Schwartz slated to start the game at 7:15.
Original Redbird fan passes
One of the original fans of the Cardinals, Jim Anderson, passed away late Wednesday night. Jim was not only a fan, but a huge supporter of the Cardinals both financially and with his prescence at the field. One of his children, Chris, is of course a longtime Cardinal.
"When Jim was at the games, you knew it. Jim was one of the guys who helped us in the begining and continued helping us as the Cardinals grew from an idea to an organization. His laughter and good nature proceeded him at all times. I cannot help but think that right now, Jim would be cracking jokes and telling me, 'get ready for the season, Victor! We've got things to do!'. His personality, his fun loving smile, will be missed at the field this year.", stated Coach Victor Canales
