Entry ID: 1720054 | first plesae let me say my coming home to charlestown was a lovely time.i'm very proud to say i'm from charlestown and to make that my home after my time in the military comes to an end in 2013.while at home on my two week leave i had a chance to reconect with family and freinds.i also took in a couple of football games while at home and i would like to commend the people involved in making the program a success.i believe that with good people who care about the children and our town you can't go wrong.always remember it's about the children and their learning how to become productive both on and off the field, and with the support of great parents that will always happen.always remember that we can measure success in many ways,it's not always about the wins and losses.from what i could tell the coaches and the parents are making our town proud |

Entry ID: 1684635 | Dear Concerned Parent,
First let me say that I understand your concern. Our program is young and there is always room for improvement. As the program grows, I hope to enhance it every year through parents requests and/or concerns. I am open to any new ideas.
At the moment, we are doing the best that we can. My coaches have limited time and are doing a service to the community. They do a great job and truely love working with young girls. A couple of them have part time jobs on top of this work and all of them are Varisty Cheerleaders at the high school. One other thing to consider is that the Civic Center is only available to us on certain nights of the week. We have to be appreciative that Rodney is doing us a service by allowing us to practice for no cost. But, if there is enough mom's out there who would like to practice more with the girls, I am totally open to this idea. All of the parents would have to agree and we would have to get clearance from the President and VP of the program. This is something that would have to researched a little. This program is run by volunteers, so any help is welcome and appreciated.
It is also difficult to keep the girls focused for more than 45 minutes. Most of them are very young and want to have fun. We will focus on the practices being an hour long. This program is an introduction to the sport of cheerleading, giving the girls the basics and letting them see if this is something they would like to pursue as they get older. The extra money that I requested from each family helps complete the girls uniform. I requested this last year as well. Just like the boys need cleats, game socks, practice pants and so on.... Although I will say that these items are optional and you do not have to get them if you choose not to. It just helps to enhance the experience for the girls.
Keep in mind that there will be one more expensive of $5.00 or less per family to decorate the float(s). We will probably have to have two of them this year, but I am not sure yet. We will take a vote and see what the parents would like to do. The girls may end up on their teams float. I am not sure, but we have to make sure everyone is safe.
I hope that this helps you to feel better about the program. My main goal is to teach these girls some basic cheers and what it means to be part of team. I want them to understand what it means to win or lose with a smile. Sportsmanship and treating everyone with respect are also some of our main goals. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this further or if you have other concerns.
Sincerely,
Becky Reid

Entry ID: 1681137 | I don't understand the cheerleading program. We pay just as much for our cheerleaders as we do for football and we only get one practice a week and it's suppose to be from 7-8 and only last like 40mins.We should have more practices and actually go full time or lower sign up fee.Now they are asking us parents for another 10.00 for hair ribbons, socks and pom-poms.I will have to say the football program is great but cheerleading program needs improvement.. |

Entry ID: 1504773 | I had a great time this year with the kids and parents from both the junior teams. I met new friends and got closer to the kids. Both teams played thier hearts out and I'm proud of all of them. Also I would like to thank Kim Wray and Kim Daniel for all the hard work and endless hours they both put in. There are many more to thank as well from coaches to concession workers you all know who you are and I know who you are. without all of you working together as a team this would not be possible. I hope all the kids who can return do so. Lets keep building the charlestown program to be the best it can be. Again, THANK YOU. Can't wait until next year. Butch Love |
