Entry ID: 1713483 | Oh thank you Krystal... That is so true. This was the best time my son had being his first sport and all. It was just sad to see how things worked out in the end. I guess we didn't know how things worked @ Decatur Football. YES I did tell him the same thing about them knowing his name now... Next year he will show up in his jersey from this year in hopes he will be remembered. I asked him out of a scale from 1-10 how much he liked football he said 10... That's what makes him my sweet sweet boy. He gave it 150% and has a parent that means we have given him the right tools to learn and rise above no matter how hurtful it is when things aren't fair. Thank you again for you comment. I wish your son good luck and the fairness he deserves going into football next year. |

Entry ID: 1712555 | I would like to address the mom who's son was not choosen for the All-Stars. Sometimes count your blessings that your son was not choosen. My son, whom he felt had a good year (and so did we) deserve to be on the All-stars and had been choosen. Only to maybe see 6 plays during the tournament. And could not explain to him why he did not see more playin' time. It left a bad taste in our mouths, but my son said it was an honor to be nominated and would do it again. May I say, not only has he had the best year of his life but..... he has made sure everyone knows his name. Please do not buy into all the b.s. that gets thrown around in Decatur. I know it's hard. But things aren't always what they seem. Keep your son positive and let him know his time is comin'. And like we told our son, make sure they know who you are! |

To the teams that are still playing.. Good Luck... Hit them hard & have a good time!

Entry ID: 1712531 | Bottom line... These are kids and it seems like in this league some adults have forgotten that. Noone's getting signed up for a major league. They just want to play and help out and all should be given the same chance. It should not be about who you know or how much you helped out. It should be about teamwork, hardwork , skills and determination. Hopefully next year it will be different and all the kids will get the same opportunity. I think the ref's should be hired in people.. someone that doesn't know who's who and who's friends with who. I hope that your son took what ever was said to him with a grain of salt and he can rise above the situation... As far as my son yesterday was a hard day for him, he loves football now and it was really difficult to try and explain to him that he gave it his all and that YES it was not fair how the All Star team was picked... especially without him even getting the chance to show his skills. |

Entry ID: 1712458 | Well, Maybe you should remember he is also a kid.... And I'm pretty sure eveyone makes mistakes in life, No one is perfect. And I have nothing to do with picking the All-Star team so I don't know how I could have "HELPED" you out there...SORRY!!!! |
Julie October 11, 2009 11:48:27 AM
Entry ID: 1712221 | Ok let's talk about how to be respectful to "kids" that are HELPING! Where is this type of compassion for my son who is in 4th grade and has never played a sport before, that showed up to ALL the practices & games but what not given the opportunity to be picked for the 4th grade All Star team that was picked before the season started... How fair is that to a 9 year old??? How do you explain that? Maybe I should have let him ask you today at the end of the game when he had to turn in his helment & pads and had tears whelled up in his eyes why he wasn't picked!!! My son made several tackles, touch downs and often other coaches asked.. Who is that kid... Now let's talk about fairness and remembering these are kids! Sorry your teenager who has played before got called out for not calling things he should have! |
Michelle Indy October 11, 2009 10:11:41 AM
Entry ID: 1712191 | Well, the comment about the "14 yr old" ref's .... Well, most of the ref's are high school football players and are 16 and 17 yrs. old and have been playing the game since flag football... We have had more people say a lot of great thing about these young men than complaints, so I guess they are doing they're jobs..I guess we can't make everyone HAPPY. I'm sorry you was not happy with the ref's you had maybe they can try a little harder next time, But I would remember don't be so quick to judge these young men it could be your kid or kids out there one day HELPING!!!

Entry ID: 1708909 | Could we please get some referee's that are a older than say 14 years old to ref the games? I am not saying they do a bad job all of the time, but this last week (10/3) they were terrible! They were not paying a bit of attention to the game(s) and didn't call any holds, facemasks, or delay of games ~ and believe me there was plenty of that going on during our game. I know this is little league, but how can we teach our players the correct rules & regulations if the ref's can't do their jobs correctly? |

Entry ID: 1706398 | I have heard the allstars have been picked already. From what our coach and other coaches have said they weren't even called to see who they thought deserved to try out. I guess the Chargers coach is the one heading up the allstars team and he has already made his pick, choosing kids he knew or has had on his team from previous years. I guess you will always have kids that want it and deserve it and kids that don't deserve it but get it because of the "click". GREAT WAY TO TEACH THE KIDS ABOUT HOW THINGS REALLY WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I am wrong I apologize but this is what I have been hearing from everyone about this league. Disappointed. |

Entry ID: 1507365 | Decatur's football program is as good as it is, because of Jimmy Ray and company. Jimmy puts his heart and soul, into the program and really does care about the kids and the Decatur football program from top to bottom.
He want's it to grow into it's potential and it has grown, just in the last few years that I have been here.
But, it still has room to grow and become a great, football township.
Lets face it. its not Decatur baseball, that is the current top sport here in Decatur. But... We have every reason to believe it can achieve that goal in the near future, as long as people like Jimmy and others, (myself included) keep putting thier all into the sport.
The only problem it has is the high school program could put a little more time into the youth football program.

Entry ID: 1480982 | are you serious? this is football, not a highschool drama intervention. jimmy rocks out the football program! as to fairness............. anyone (refs) can make a bad call, it happens sometimes. jimmy acts to insure discipline in our children, to push them (all of them) forward. something an "athlete" can appreciate!
sideline talk is merely parents whom think their child is more valuable in this "team" sport, than they really might be. or only want to complain that "if i were in charge"
since we have such an obvious need on our guestbook for new members? i nominate YOU for Parents Sideline Liaison! these duties include but are not limited to....... letting parents know before every game that little michael may not get a touchdown on this very day. and that jason might get knocked down by billy. (oh i know they're friends at school, but this is the field!) you must also intervene when dad is telling john that he's way better than peter, and if he had peters spot....... he'd be a star! also remind parents there is to be NO smoking or pets on the grounds. and that they should try to abstain from climbing on the fence yelling and screaming.
the program turn out year after year is because of the "Now Members" why fix something that isn't broken? |

Entry ID: 1476808 | I think this is a myopic view of an intense program that requires the passionate leadership it receives. With the “changing of the guard” mentality the egotistical tendansys of a few become a factor to deminish the overall purpose of the program to teach. |

Entry ID: 1453728 | Wondering what the process is for being on the "Committee" that is presently in place..? I have heard from several parents that they had asked about being on the "Committee" and were told that.."No new members were needed", or that there were "No openings". Seems to me in the interest of keeping "fair-play" in mind and a bit of diversity in the mix that new faces would be welcomed (at least a couple) every year or so to maintain a "Changing of the Guard" of sorts. This may even eliminate some of the persistant side-line talk I constantly hear about "Conflict of Interest" and "Crock" calls when certain coaches are playing and there are obvious (to the parents) "signs" and conversations between said coaches and referees that can only leave the parents with feelings of suspicion and dis-belief at what they are witnessing. I am not trying to be disrespectful to any one person, but we all know that the conversations are like wildfire on the sidelines and to NOT allow new "Committee" members in and keep hearing parents complain on the sidelines about this apparent conduct is just fueling the fires. These are all of our children..not just the members on the "Committee" and to not allow a few new faces each year, seems like a blatant disrespect to the very parents & Committee member (wanna-be's) who support these teams year after year and to "Just Say No" each year when so many ask about it..does not seem "Fair"..which is what so many praise Jimmy Ray for..is the way he "Keeps things fair.." In the interest of "Keeping things Fair"..Why not let new faces in each year to stave off the suspicion and controversy and finally put this issue to rest..? |

Entry ID: 1194080 | Jimmy Ray is the best! He tries to keep it fair, and fun for both kids & the coaching staff. If no one else has noticed, he's the first & last one there. When everyone is complaining, fighting, throwing trash on the ground - he's the one cleaning up all the messes. The league is more successful every year & that is because of him, & his supporting coaching staff. I've seen nothing but kind and great things from Jimmy. I only wish more of the adults involved had the spirit for love of the game, as much as he does. |

Entry ID: 1186809 | Hello Jimmy Ray, this is Cher Simmerman, Dylan Simmerman's mother. I saw your new website and I love it! I hope you remember little "Zimmi" he was on the all star team that got to shave the coaches(Don Ivey & Doug Greenwald) heads a few years back. He played with heart every year and had a tumor and had to have half of his large intestine removed, and missed most of his last year before moving to Texas. I thought you and the other coaches might like to know that Dylan has excelled in football since moving to Texas! He attended Jay Novacek sports international football for the second year this summer. Being 15, Dylan was eligible for the first time this year to the camps "Top 30 Club" Dylan was one of only couple of 15 yr olds selected! They are sending out college recommendations to over 1900 colleges. Dylan has also been featured in a news article at Mckinney News.Net, and now Sports International Blitz is doing a news article on up and coming football players titled "Generation Next" and they will be featuring Dylan as one of the players from around the country to watch! We just wanted every coach up north to know. He started it all at Decatur! Thank You for everytime you push, shout, and celebrate with these boys! Dylan has not forgotton where he started. He is only and incoming Freshman, but the Varsity coach has spoke with him several times, and you will be hearing a lot more out of this boy. He weighs in at 136lbs, very lean now and full of muscle. He can tackle a player twice his weight at middle linebacker strong, and still plays half back, and running back occasionally. We miss the cool football season y'all have up north. We have to hose the boys down every year! ha ha Hope you have a wonderful football season! Oh we are still Colt's fans in state full of Cowboys!! Dylan hopes to attend Purdue University if they come look at him! ha ha
Take Care and Please Pass Dylan's news
