Entry ID: 1724410 | I totally agree with your point, but am i right in blaming the system when the form says that you must attend all tryouts to be considered for the team & half a dozen kids only show up for the final tryout & all of them make the team yet when the others who played by the rules & showed up for all of the tryouts which was what the form said dont? and i was present when a coach told a parent on the 2nd day of tryouts that her child couldn't try out because they missed the 1st tryout. also beleive me if my child was not good enough i would be the 1st to admit it. but in my situation it was not the case. my child is very talented & clearly should have made the team & to see how dissappointed they were when they received the phone call saying they didn't make
it really gets me angry. now my child thinks that all of the hard work & devotion they put in doesn't matter because it seems to be a popularity contest. why don't the coaches stand up & do the right thing instead of trying to please all the parents they know. also i was a coach & when i had my team i played fair. i picked the kids who deserved it not the ones whose parents tried to suck up to me. i do appreciate all the time & effort most of these people put in. most of them are fair but in my situation they were not fair. my child has played on teams that kids were 2 years older & started but now they cant even make a team of kids their own age????? give me a break. how can you judge the talent of a child who shows up for 1 practice? unless of course you know the parent. until someone answers my concerns i will not be swayed from my opinion. |

Entry ID: 1724167 | Wow it is very sad when grown adults use a public forum like tihs one to complain when their kids dont make a team. Sorry folks there are only so many slots and so many teams. Its easy to make ourselves feel better by ranting and raving about "the system" or "the coaches" when the truth is there usually is a whole team of kids better than our kid. It hhappens! Its this kind of nonsense that took the rules out of REC and made it a "fun only leauge" No rules, No game concepts NOTHING FORMAL,with the added no real life dissapointment which is exactly what some kids need. Well thats not the real world and thats not travel B-ball. Yes travel ball is about winning Its also about the old saying "hard work pays off". You think these kids would take as much pride or practice so hard if the end result was a slap on the back and a lil medal. Lets take the anger out of the issues and look at the big picture. Honestly do you think a parent is going to put in all the hours it takes to efficiently run a "winning" team if his own kid isnt playing??? So why doesnt everyone take a deep breath, and for those of you whos kids didnt make a travel team. Have fun in rec and let your kids continue to enjoy playing b-ball thats what ITS for. |

Too many people hide and don't have the stones to say anything. Commit the time that these coaches/coordinators do and maybe someone will listen. If you have a problem go to a board meeting, maybe even join and be part of the solution and not just another problem.
Other than that "SHUT UP"!

When the form for the travel basketball teams say that you MUST show up for all 3 practices does that apply for EVERYONE or just the kids with no connection to the COACHING STAFF. Nice example for the kids. Don't think that people are blind to the politics involved. |

Entry ID: 1672819 | Hey, Mr C. This isn't like McDonald's where your burger got burned and you get a free one. The games were cancelled because of weather related issues. Were some unnecessary, maybe. Just like some snow days that are used are not necessary. The officials make a judgment call. I know that tonight is the last night for the boys. They are giving the boys hats and ice cream after the game tonight.
Let not lose sight of what is important here that the kids had fun during the season. It is in the end about the kids. I had fun this season watching the kids, as I have done every season. It looks to me like the kids have fun when they play. Great Job to everyone involved in putting this season together. |

this will be the 3rd one out of 4. with all the money you charge for this league you should have an indoor gym available for times like this. of course these games will not be made up. if we are only going to play 60% of the games then we should only pay 60% of the fee. i hope others will complain to the rec dept about this. at the very least you should make up these games. |

Entry ID: 1653433 | i dont think that they should cancel a game 4 hours before the game is scheduled. It was canceled before 3, because of rain. its now 5:30, it stopped raining and is drying, and the game isnt for an hour and a half.
