I would like to say congratz to the Southampton Knights 105lb team and the C.B. Mooore Chiefs 105lb team for making it to the championship. On behalf of my team and my organization..."We wish both teams the best of luck." Also, I would like to thank the rest of the 105lb teams in our division for making it so competitive. I truly beleive that we all learned alot from each other. The kids played there hearts out, I think all the kids in every organization did an awesome job. The KSL continues to do a good job....season after season. Please go out and support our teams playing in our conferences championship games this weekend. These kids, coaches, and clubs worked very hard to get where they're at. And, as a league we need to be there to cheer them on and support them. Remember....at the end of the day....It's still all about the kids. Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving to all. And, again...Congratz and best of luck to all the teams.

Coach, the jersey colors are as they are written on the schedule. Home team has the option to pick what color they wish to wear. None, go to the front page and click on the blue writing on the first line to view scores and schedule.

Just a quick question. Are the jersey colors shown for this weekends' game the designated colors to be worn by each team? There seems to be some confusion over which jerseys we will be wearing. Thank you. P.S. - Taking the time to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all Keystone players, Coaches, Officers and Families. We have all been very fortunate enough to have participated in the greatest sport (in my opinion) there ever was, and hopefully can continue to do so in the progressing years to come. Wishing you all the Best!!

I have read a lot about the hope for an August cut off date or "specials" for the 105lb division. Can anyone from the league confirm if it has been submitted by a rep for the possibility of passing for the 2010 season?

I saw a post about rule books. They can be purchased online at www.nfhs.com This is the same rule book that is used for high school football. KSL has modified a few things but nothing major on penalties or rulings. You should also purchase a case book at the same web site, this gives you plays that can happen during a game and how they would be penalized or if they are legal plays.

The rule is the same as it is during the regular season. Athletic supporters are mandatory but cups are optional.

I asked about the age limit change last year. I was told it is brought up as a possible rule change every year but it never passes the first committee. So it never gets to go for a league vote. Maybe this year it will change???

The age cut off would be awesome. Aug 1st would help out our 105 program a whole bunch.

The age question is another issue One thing Pop Warner has been right on is the cut-off date for the age of the players. August 1 is the deadline for Pop Warner, if a players age changes after that date the player remains with that age group. Just something to consider within the league, its good to see parents and coaches alike concerned for the betterment of this league. I hope changes come to this organization, with the right changes this will be the best football league in the area.

As all these suggestions may have merit I must tell everyone how a rule change comes about. First a rule is submitted by an organization's Rep. Secondly it goes in front of a rules committee to see if it should go to the KSL Rep body for a vote. If it makes it through that committee it goes to the floor for a vote. If it passes that vote it goes to the body again for a second vote. By then if it passes the second vote it then becomes a new or revised by-law or playing rule. So if you would like to see a rule changed you will need to see your organization's Rep and have it submitted to the league. The KSL does not just change rules or by-laws but all must go through this process.

I agree with the comment about changing the age cut-off. Why do we have a cut-off date that is an entire month after the season is over. I think KSL should consider changing the cut-off to match another league like Pop Warner (7/31), or have the cut-off be September 1st, like it is for school. My son's birthday is Dec. 24th and he is considered a 12 year old by the league this season, even though he is 11 all season long. By having the cut-off 12/31, he is not only playing with kids that are upwards of an entire year older, but most are also a grade level above in school. This change would help the kids who end up being specials and need to starve themselves to play on a team with their classmates.

I would like to ask the KSl one question. Why don't you guys move the age back to Aug. to match Pop Warner. We lose alot of kids throughout the league in the upper weight class because they can play Pop warner at the same age. They get another year of elgibility at the 120 pop warner weight class where they would have to go to 105 in our weight class. You would keep alot more kids around for the 90 and 105 pound kids. I personally do not think the weight is the issue. The age back to August would allow more teams with more players in the 90 and 105 pound class. Just wondering why this does not happen. Thanks.

Just my opinion but I think it would be idea if for the 105's if the weight was rasied to 130 for regulars and 115 for specials. We would continue to get a pound per week for 5 weeks and two pounds for the playoffs

Hey League! I'm very glad that everyone is airing this situation out. I agree with you all about the kids being bigger, stronger, and faster now. It's definately not like years ago. I think that if the KSL were to increase the weight...alot clubs numbers would be up for sure. And, the league would absolutely be alot more competitive. Personally, I know it's hard for my organization because some of the kids were to heavy, and they didn't want to loose the weight. Reason being is they played for school and why loose the weight when alot of school coaches look for the bigger athletes at that age. There's a difference between getting rid of unhealthy weight which is all around good for you health wise. But, when kids don't really have the weight to get rid of period...and, they're running with bags on to shed 9, 10, or 11 pounds...that's not healthy for them at all. And, it's a shame that it comes to that each year man. It's sad and fustrating. Quick questioned for anyone to answer...What would be the age and weight for a 105lb special if the KSL were to consider doing that? Have a Happy and safe Holloween to everyone. Good luck to all teams. And, GO PHILLIES!!!!!

The bottom line is that just there aren't alot of 13-14 yr olds walking around today weighing 110-115-120lbs. They are much bigger today--and then adding on equipment--you can forget it!

I AM PLEASED TO SEE THE MANY COMMENTS SUPPORTING THE INCREASING OF WEIGHTS FOR ALL TEAMS BUT ESPECIALLY THE 105 LB PROGRAM. WATCHING OTHER PROGRAMS BRAVELY STRUGGLE TO PUT TEAMS ON THE FIELD IS A TRIBUTE TO THE EAGLES, PIONEERS, SPARTANS AMONG OTHERS BUT IT IS ALSO A WAKE UP CALL TO THE KSL THAT, UNLESS THEY WANT THE 105 LB PROGRAM TO FOLLOW THE SAME FATE AS THE 125 LB PROGRAM, THEY MUST REALIZE TIMES ARE CHANGING AND INCREASE THE WEIGHT. I AM APPRECIATIVE OF THE GREAT EFFORT OUR KSL BOARD GIVES US YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT BUT I HAVE BEEN INVOLVED FOR 20 YEARS HERE AND CAN SEE THAT, ESPECIALLY FOR THE 105'S, THE FUTURE IS NOW! WE MUST INCREASE THE WEIGHTS BY AT LEAST 5 LBS BUT IDEALLY 10. LIKE WE SEE IN ALL SPORTS, IN ALL AGES, KIDS ARE BIGGER AND FASTER THAN THEY WERE EVEN 5-10 YEARS AGO. WE MUST LOOK FOR WHAT IS BEST FOR ALL CLUBS IN ALL DIVISIONS TO MAKE SURE THE GREAT TRADITION OF THE KSL CONTINUES. I AM ALARMED TO SEE AND HEAR FROM OTHER COACHES WHAT HAS TO BE DONE WEIGHT WISE TO FIELD 11 OR 12 PLAYERS. I AM UPSET TO SEE EXCELLENT ATHLETES LIKE THE 105 LB EAGLES LAST WEEK PLAY TRULY INSPIRED, HARD NOSED FOOTBALL ONLY TO HAVE NO SUBS TO PLAY WHEN INJURY OR FATIGUE SETS IN. THAT CAN BE DANGEROUS. WE NEED MORE PLAYERS TO HAVE A COMPETITVE LEAGUE. LETS GET IT DONE!

There was plenty of positive input contributed by all in reference to the age/weight issue, and I thought I’d give my two cents as a current Keystone and former Pop Warner and NESAC coach. If it were my decision, I’d increase each weight group by five pounds and eliminate the “special category” for all weights with the exception of the 105’s. The lower age groups should in fact be playing against children in their age/weight bracket only ,as having specials on a team pits slightly older players against younger players. An age difference of 6-11 months to a ten or eleven year old is more like a three year age difference developmentally. Older players such as at the 105 level can handle the age difference as the developmental difference is a lot closer. There will always be children that are excluded from teams because of the weight issue. Appx. 85% of professional ball players never played youth ball because even as children, they were too big. Making drastic changes to accommodate more players takes away the major premise of youth football age/weight equity. Pop Warner weights are misleading, as my team found out in the Eastern Regionals. Two games away from Disney, we faced a team from Baltimore comprised solely of older/lighters(specials), as we were told that teams from down South did not accept players within their weight/age bracket, but only kids that qualified as older/lighter. One must remember that in Pop Warner, Disney World is the ultimate goal, even if it means bending the rules to get there. NESAC weights are more fair as do they allow for fluctuations in weight during season (weigh-ins were done before week 1, 5, and play-offs only). Keystone, for the most part, has gotten it right for a lot of years, which is why I suggested it to my organization when it became clear that we were leaving Pop Warner. Keystone football is a better brand of ball than the other two because of the wider variation in play style/coaching and better officiating than what is seen in Pop Warner or NESAC. Pop Warner is talent/paperwork driven. NESAC is too local to offer a variety of distinct play styles. With minor changes in the weights, I'm confident that Keystone can continue to offer the best in youth football in the region.

The way the weights are done should definitely be changed. The coaches are right, set a flat weight and increase during playoffs and Championship. My son who should be playing at age seven with the 55lb team plays with the 65-freedom, luckily he could adjust to experience of the older kids but he is behind I feel. If the weights, which for all other kids at this age is 75lbs he would be playing with his age group. This why some parents would rather their child play in league other than KSL. The league is good one, but things must change with the times. Other organizations do not either consider coming to KSL or rejoining the league because of this. KSL teams who have moved on to Pop Warner, NESAC or Bert Bell etc. cite this a one of the many reasons. I might be a little more informed than most parents, but I only think changes would be better for the sake of competition and also most importantly, the children. On a final note the younger children should also get to compete for Championships at the 55lb varsity level. The tournaments are great I think for our kids to play against other leagues. They should be rewarded for all the effort and time they put into the game as the older children.

I couldn't agree more with the other coaches. Trying to get kids to come out for 105 is like pulling teeth. Numbers are going down, kids are getting bigger and faster. Specials would be great also maybe setting the weight right off the bat so we dont have kid's cramping and starving themselves before weigh in's. I play with 12 every week and a few kids that came out were 137 and they didnt feel like dropping 9lb's to play, but with raising the weight to a set 135 and 138 for playoff's i would have 16 not 12. But good luck to all teams in my division, Play 100% for 4 quaters, hit hard till the wistle, and never quit. Those value's go a long way if you teach the children young.
