I would just like to send out my condolences to the Scoles Family at this time. May you find comfort in your family and friends at this very difficult time.

Futile Spring for Flames is Finally Finished We'll all be happy to put Spring 2008 behind us. Very difficult season. Too many games were played shorthanded. Even today we had no subs and in the brutal heat the dedicated players were just asked to do too much. Let's hope we can increase the roster size for the Fall. Coach Danny and Robin deserve a lot of respect and gratitude from the players and parents for doing their all to get the kids to play to their potential. Next year everyone has to come with a better practice attitude so you can get back on top.

FLAMES AND PHOENIX FIGHT TO STANDOFF Another game that could easily have been a win but Flames were guilty of the same inconsistent play that has marred much of the Spring season. There was a lack of aggressiveness and a lack of execution for too many parts of the game. It's very puzzling as to why there's been a drop off in your play this part of the season but much of it stems from poor practice habits. You need to come prepared to practice and take it seriously and you've got to improve your attitudes. You have played a lot of games in the past where your determination was clear from the opening whistle. Too many times in 2008 you looked like you didn't want to fight for the win. Nothing comes easy in sports of life. Nothing is handed to you. You've got to make it happen. You've got two more games to get back to your successful ways but only you players can do it.

FLAMES EDGED OUT BY ROBBINSVILLE Second week in a row that the Flames had to play with only ten. Injuries and illnesses have really taken their toll the last couple of games. This was a winnable game but the same mistakes that have been present all Spring continue to be made. At certain times you displayed excellent passing but there are too many long stretches where plays break down because of poor or slow decisions. You still have to work on fighting much harder to achieve and maintain possession. Hopefully you'll have more players available this weekend and you can try to get back to .500 before the year ends.

BLADES CUT DOWN UNDERMANNED FLAMES Flames were up against it today, missing four players to illness and/or injury. Instead of using it as motivation it seemed like you wanted to use it as an excuse. Once again, you were plagued by a passive style of play. You allowed the opponent to win almost every 50/50 ball. Your decision making was much too slow and the execution on much of your passes was poor. You created a couple of chances but when those chances happened you needed to really focus on burying them. Not everything in sports or everyday life is going to run smoothly. Unexpected things happen which might make it harder to achieve your goals. That doesn't mean you should expect to fail. You've got to have the attitude that you are strong enough to overcome anything. It would be nice to see that confidence next week. You have it in you because you've done it before.

FLAMES MISFIRE AGAINST BULLETS Not a very good showing today. Except for 1 or 2 players no one played with any passion. You played without strength, without focus and without conviction. Yet despite all of that you were only down a goal at the end of the half. You beat this team in the Fall but today you let them run through you and around you, especially in the second half. Lazy plays lead to fouls and outnumbered situations. You guys MUST stop getting pushed around. You have to come in with an attitude that every ball is yours. Too many times you would run towards the ball and shy away at the last minute. You make it too easy for the other team. Although we haven't played every week, the season is almost half over. Now is the time for you to change your attitude and play with a little edge. You have skill but so do your opponents so you have to win the game with aggression. Next week is the time to start.

FLAMES TIE UP THE REDWOODS For the second week in a row, some curious refereeing impacted the result. That's a good lesson to learn. If you bury your chances and keep the pressure on you won't allow the game to be decided by a ref's call. You played hard and showed good character in not becoming rattled after the 3-0 lead disappeared. You are still making a lot of mistakes in executing simple plays. Too many throw-ins weren't controlled. Passes are inaccurate. You're swinging wildly at the ball instead of settling it. The good news is that these are correctable if you work at it. You've got 3 home games coming up and now is the time to get a winning streak going. Let's start on Sunday.

FLAMES TURN ON THE "CREWS" CONTROL!! Not the prettiest display of soccer but you guys gutted it out and hung tough to eke out the 1-0 victory. David really bailed us out today. You've got to work on your conditioning. You were short-handed today but your speed was not there. You've got to control the ball on throw-ins and on the long passes. Too much of the ball bouncing off knees, ankles and whatever. You had some nice attack but the passes were too heavy. You've got to measure the ball. You'll sort it out as the season goes on and get your positioning. Tomorrow you play the only team to beat you last season. They are physical but if you match their intensity, your skill will carry you to a victory.

READINGTON RUNS AWAY FROM FLAMES OK, it was the first game and you guys probably deserved a tie. I'm not sure anyone has ever seen a ref call the half as the ball was traveling towards the goal. Having said that, there were several things you must improve upon. Readington was much quicker to the loose balls. Midfield rarely came back to play defense. Some very nice thoughts on making passes but the excution had to be better and your thought process has to be quicker. It's only one game and you held them scoreless in the second half so concentrate on the positive. You are playing a physical team next week so you guys have to start banging a litle more and hold your ground a little stronger.

FLAMES CAP OFF SUCCESSFUL FALL BY STINGING THE SCORPIONS!! Who neeeded hot chocolate after the game when the Flames had "Hot Coco" on the field for 80 minutes? You guys did what you had to do in cold and damp conditions. It wasn't the prettiest or most skilled game you've played but you did enough to set the team record for the most wins. Each and every one of you deserve a lot of praise for your efforts. Your coaches deserve a tremendous amount of credit for their time, teaching and probably most of all PATIENCE in teaching you to play as a unit instead of as individual players. A look at the roster shows that every non-goalie had at least one point this season..another first. The Spring will be tougher. You will likely be placed in a higher flight but that's just another opportunity for success. Enjoy the holiday but don't let too much rust set in.

FLAMES OVERTHROW THE REVOLUTION!!! Great bounce back game. You guys came out with a good attitude from the start. The other team thought they were still in it at the start of the second half but when you scored 14 seconds in you took the fight right out of them. Excellent give and gos. When some of our defenders start to get more involved in the offense and play making it adds a dimension to the team that very few other teams can match. The way you were passing for a big chunk of the second half is how you should be moving the ball in any game. Now that you know that you're capapable of finding the open player and passing the ball up, back and side to side..start using that talent from the start. You have one more game to set the record for the most wins by a Flames team. Don't let the opportunity pass. Finish on a high!!

FLAMES CAN'T GET BY REDWOODS Disappointing game overall. Yes, the officiating was not very good but you were beaten by a better side. They were more physical, more aggressive and more skilled today. You guys can do much better. Poor ball control and poor passing led to constant giveaways or failed attacks. You never really challenged their goalie. The couple of times you had good chances you lacked the finish again and kicked it right to the keeper. You can still end with a great record but you no longer control your destiny for winning the flight. All of those practice drills that you complain about (passing/dribbling) have a purpose and if you pay more attention to the basics, you will have a much easier time during the game. Practice hard this week. Put this loss behind you and come out Sunday and grab a win in the last home game.

FLAMES CALM THE STORM!!! The Flames continued their Fall success with a hard fought win. Everyone seemed to get off to a slow start. Defense made some fundamental mistakes putting the ball in the middle or geting stripped in dangerous areas. Offense was trying to be too cute with the ball and let several opportunities pass by. Second half was a different story. Excellent passing from the defense to the the midfield and then to the strikers to spring some great runs. The defense, especially the two outside defenders, really clamped down and denied the Storm attackers any space or time to create. You should all feel very proud but you have the toughest game of the season on Sunday against another very hot team. You are going to have to work hard and bring your "A" game from the opening whistle if you want the magic to continue.

FLAMES DE-FANG THUNDERWOLVES!!!! Way to jump out to a fast start with only 9 players. You actually played little better shorthanded than when you finally had the full 11. Good effort the entire game despite having no subs. David make the saves when he had to. Once again you guys headed well, especially off the corner kicks. Still some room for improvement on quicker decisions with the ball and especially the midfield helping out on defense. You've got to work on closing the gap between the midfield and forwards and midfielders and defense. You're over halfway done with the season..keep the intensity up and don't rest on your record.

FLAMES DODGE BULLETS!!! You guys really showed your mettle against a high quality opponent. Looks like we've uncovered a new weapon on our corner kicks: The Sobo Swerve!! Good things seen: nice use of head on the ball. Just missed a nice goal. Our last goal was scored because guys followed the shot and did not give up. Still things to be improved: Passing must be more accurate. You've got to learn to use space to make the passes. Keep your heads up so you can find your teammates. Some passes are still weak. You've got to use your heads to think too. You scored the 3rd goal and you lost some of your aggressiveness. That almost cost you. Midfielders were still hanging out by the center line when they should have been helping out on defense late in the game when South Plainfield was really coming on. Don't be fancy when you're under siege late. Just send the ball downfield. Bring the same intensity tomorrow.

FLAMES MATCH SPRING'S WIN TOTAL BY PACIFYING THE WARRIRORS!!! Despite another sluggish start, you created enough chances in the 2nd half and with a lucky rebound outlasted a team that you should have handled better. Defense was very tight in first half and really collpased to limit any good opportunities by Somerset Hills. Too many shots were again right at the goalie..you have to take what you learn at practice and carry it into the game. The midfielders and forwards have to be quicker to the ball. You need some more game awareness. I saw some players coming on as subs and seeming not to know where to be. That really could have cost us. Some nice passing around the box at times and some of you switched the field nicely. You have back to back games this Saturday and Sunday and it's a great opportunity to keep the winning going.

FLAMES FIGHT BACK FOR A TWISTER TIE!! My guest beat write, Cezary provided the following game summary in my absence: After sleepwalking through the first half Flames ignited in the second. The whole team showed a lot of heart and determination to "twist" the game around. However the old habits of fooling around during practice and " giving up" on the loose balls came back to hunt the Flames. We make a nail biter out of an easy game. You guys have superior skills when playing together as a team. Just have to remember to show up for the whole game and You able to win every game.

FLAMES DO JUST ENOUGH TO DECLAW THE RAPTORS!! A win is a win but you guys made this harder than it had to be. Let's concentrate on our finishing. Some are still doing a little too much with the ball. Keep your heads up so you can make good passes. Everyone MUST make an effort to attend practices. It's only when you play together and work on things in practice that your games will become easier. Enjoy the bye week but don't let the rust set in.

FLAMES FLY TO FAST START!! Great start to the season with a new blend of players. The offense really moved the ball a lot and created a lot of excellent chances. Nice sharing of the ball. Defense picked each other up. Everyone played hard. You guys need to play together more and get used to each other. We can use a bit more support from midfield. Once the team gels even better things will happen. Keep it going next week.

Hey, Lady Tigers. We Are having good seasons together and lets keep it that way. For me being the goalie it is hard to see everything but we are getting our position's well. we are improving as well as passing. Every girl should come to practice to get even better together as one. Most of the girls are leaving but that is your choice. we will remember you during the games. i hope everyone was happy how the season ended. we were always up and making the best part of the games as we can. Let's keep it that way for the next couple of seasons. GO LADY TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FLAMES WRAP UP SPRING WITH ROUT OF RAPTORS!!! Well, at least it will give you something on which to build for the Fall. It was nice for the coaches to let some of the players try some new positions. It should make the D appreciate how hard the offense must work to create and score and it lets the offense know what challenges the defense face. Very good sportsmanship in not running up the score. The Fall was great, the Spring much tougher. Congrats to all of the coaches for their dedication. I hope all of the Flames players, parents and coaches have a great summer...stay in shape and be ready for September.
