Entry ID: 1738636 | It is a true sign of the times many schools are cutting budgets both public and private and the cost of the private schools climbs each year. It really is a shame that a school the size of Hofstra has to cut a program like this but I fear we will hear of more schools doing this. Years ago St Johns had a football program also and there were even a few D1 schools including Northern Iowa that cut baseball this past year. I dont think Hofstra baseball has any worries and hopefully some more money will flow to help the other sports at the school. |

Entry ID: 1738450 | Hofstra would not be able to drop baseball without dropping a womens sport too, because with 80 plus male athletes(football) no longer in the picture dropping any other male sport without dropping a womens sport would throw off the title IX numbers. They certainly wont be dropping softball its probably next to wrestling their most successful program. Football is the most expensive sport in a colleges budget and schools all over the country have been dropping football over the last few years, In the CAA alone Northeastern just dropped football last month. I think baseball is safe for the imediate future anyway, so if you are really worried about the six long island kids who just signed, I think they will be fine. |

Entry ID: 1738414 | My son is friends with one of the ex fooball coaches of Hofstra, he told him Hoftsra started recruiting alot of local talent over the last couple years in an attempt to try and build a local fan base. This was a last attempt before dropping the program. He then pointed out to my son that Hofstra baseball is currently doing the same thing, a sudden push to recruit local talent. According to him baseball is doomed to suffer the same fate as football. |

Entry ID: 1738164 | The Outlaws did not fizzle we changed and are trying something new a program not hell bent on just going out to play a ton of games but a prgram that works on Strength and Agility, Speed, Baseball basics which means lots of practice. We have brought in pro instructors at every level and have four teams 13, 14, 15 and 16-17U. We will play in 40 games over summer with 12 man rosters and will be practcing twice a week as well. We want to develop kids not just throw teams together. It is something new and we are very happy with the program so far, We have 48 participants and have already started the gym training portion of the program. Also we have no hard feelings with the teams that were with us and didn't like program for whatever reasons including cost which is not cheap but 110 hours of pro instruction isn't plau everything else tha goes into a 9 month season of baseball. We wish them all well and have an open door policy if they as a team or one by one ever wanted to return. We offered something they dind't want but other people did, no harm no foul. Like I said above we left it off on good terms. We will see in a years time if our program works they way we have planned. To everyone happy holidays and great baseball season. |

You know the team that has 6 coaches on them and there kids bat 1-6 in the order, play all the infield positions. You know the kind of team I am talking about. |

Thanks to the the head coach of the LI Indians who manage to break up the team, Gregg Sarra's team would have face a better competition vs. the Indians than any team present or past.
I think Gregg would acknowledge the the LI Indian was a competitive team to his best team ever,,,,,

Entry ID: 1737716 | Amen to that post. The transition in travel ball to more competitive leagues is obvious. We have seen a growth in interst in our players because we have competitive leagues and tournaments. Nothing was as competitive as the old FABL and then the new Boys of Summer leagues. The money is always going to be an issue because some people make promises that they cannot keep. There are also predators out there trying to be college agents for kids, like that fat guy from Florida, and he just rapes people for their money. Now that's a guy who preys on people's dreams and can't deliver. Some of these big organizations do a terrific job marketing and exposing their players. The Ducks, Astros, Titans, Storm, Tigers and I might have missed one or two big organizations, have done a very nice job getting out to tournaments and showcases for the older players. It's too bad the Outlaws organization has fizzled they had some very good teams. But the Astros coach is right on with his post. We all have a choice where our children play.

Today's LI Baseball player has lots of options, if you are unhappy in your present/past situation than learn from it and move on. I for one could care less what other teams charge, as we all know, playing competitive travel baseball ain't cheap so consider all your options and talk around, our baseball community is relatively small.
On another note, LI Baseball is more competitive today than ever before, who cares what people outside of LI think? I tell ya what though, I know what they think after playing a solid LI baseball team!
LI Baseball should be proud, great strides have been made the past 5-7 years thanks in large part to the coaches and the various organizations who do the right thing. In turn, our players have benefited by playing baseball at the highest levels and becoming better on all aspects of the game, the results are clear, we probably have more LI Baseball players on College rosters today than ever before. |

There are people and always have been that make money off kids and teams look at soccer and now girls softball on LI right now. The bottom line is buyer beware and also parent be real. What has happened on LI is that everyone has started a TRAVEL program and with that the uniforms and everything else that goes with it. Used to be the better kids played Travel ball and the rest played local ball> Now it has become a business and people think that all are the same. The bottom line is know you kids ability if you get involved with anyone who tells you they can get you something stay away. The better organizations tell you this is what we offer, this is where we are going and if your kid performs he will be infornt of the right people. Also any good organization is going to have workouts for both baseball and strenght and agility. They will also ask about your kids grades and what they are looking for. No one has the magic. Teams like Titans know how to market they players but they need to have the talent and perform when on stage. When you make a major purchase simple Research. |

Entry ID: 1737467 | IMO a few differences with the BIG organizations - $1,900 pp (include the raffle tickets) and 16 players = $30k. Add winter workouts at $305 pp for 16 players = $5k. $35k x 11 teams = $385k. Uniforms (no bags or extras - get them in the proshop) $125 pp, league fees, fields, umpires etc $400 pp, 3 tournaments (even when you run them) $200 pp, Winter workout facility (even when you own it) $100 pp ($350 per hour, 6 weeks x 7 hours / 175 players) and instructors $125 pp (10 instructors x $50 ph x 6 x 7 / 175 players) That is $950 pp BEFORE Coaches. Assuming 2 coaches per team at $5k each / 16 players = $625 pp. Total cost $1,575 pp. Profit of $630 pp x 16 players x 11 teams = $110k. Don't have time to do fall ball or February trips.
Capitalism is what makes this country great but please do the numbers correctly.

Hey East Meadow Baseball know your facts. When my son signed up for this travel team organization there were only 14 kids on the roster it then grew to 20 after he signed up. When I tried to back out I was told no refunds. The fee was not including any training whatsoever in the costs. Training was extra. My son did not get any batbags, jackets or helmets. Just a pair of pants, a shirt. 20 dozen baseballs for a summer season are you kidding, we did not even play 20 league games. All we received for our money was empty promises. You don’t get to use baseballs when you forfeit or the other team does not show.
My son is now on a team that is not part of an organization. The team that is run by some fathers and is charging $400 for both spring and summer season (with practice) this coming year, and about 5 tournaments all inclusive including uniforms. Why can my sons new team provide more than the former organization for less money. All I can think of is one word, GREED!
It sounds like you are trying to hide the fact or protecting that there are some organizations that are preying on kids (and parents) dreams promising them that they are going to get a scholarship or make it to the majors. I am not saying that all organizations are bad. I am just saying that the organization that I came in contact with left me with the feeling that my son and my pocketbook were ripped off.

East Right. - First off what organization has 20 kids on a team and to that fact what parent puts their kid on a team that rosters 20 kids?? My teams (we have 10 in the organization) roster 12 players per team. Our cost is $1500. Lets do the math $1500 X 12 players = $18,000 per team. We are making alot of money right?? Well, what are the costs?
Winter workout with paid trainers for 10 weeks cost $350 per player (only $35 per week)
Summer Season, Baseball Heaven 24 games with Umps - $450 per player.
5 Tournaments with average cost $1100 (BBH) = $450 per player
Uniforms of course with bat bags, jackets and helmets $250 per player.
Insurance - $30 per player
Baseballs - About 20 dozen per year per team at $40 per dozen = $65 per player.
Field rentals and permits (for practice) - $25 per player.
Above = $1,620 per player WITHOUT a paid coach.
Who is making any money??? I would like to meet them.
