Entry ID: 1325030 | Was a member of the 8th back in the late 70s (out of Zahns is were we had our crappy little op shack, any one remember this. Was Sgt Legg part of this Unit??) Did an Airshow and guarded static display at Colliseum in the 70s (The one the Harrier blew down the fence in front of the parking lot at the colliseum directly across from the Jets training camp) Also remembering a SAR mission across the street from Zahns when a Cessna 172 met a house at the end of the runway.
Great unit, Great Experiences. Frances Gabreski and Robert Johnson (2 WW2 Jug aces, talking about old dogfights, awesome stuff!) came in and gave talks in the classroom at the Armory... Tour at Republic seeing A-10 on the static torture Rig!!!! 15' wing bending!!!. Some of the most fun when I was a teen.. And a trip to JFK to Hangar 19 and a D Check(747 major overhaul on that huge scaffolding rig they had.) We had the best road trips at Squadron 8. 1 year up to the rifle range at West Point... holy crap, it doesn't get much better for a 16 year old and a 30 .06... Yee Haw! Australian crawl training on that stream next to the Meadowbrook, and rappelling down the walls inside the Armory!!! CAP Rocks!
Best wishes and keep up the great work!!!
