Troop 77 - DeWitt MI. Chartered since 1933.

The goal of the Troop 77 scouting program is to assist the development of responsible and respectful young people in the mid-Michigan area. They must be mindful of their role as a citizen of their community. The scouting program is a supervised, scout-run program. It is the role of the supporting adults to advise and guide Scouts, not to step in and do the work. Troop 77 welcomes and encourages adult involvement in the many facets of the Troop.  See the CURRENT TROOP NEEDS page for information on how you or your Scout can help advance the goals and aspirations of Troop 77.

DeWitt Troop 77 established this website in the fall of 2007 to share information regarding troop meetings, events, and campouts.  A complete calendar can also be printed from the calendar page.

Troop Meetings

Troop 77 Scouts meet the first three Wednesdays of each month during the school year. Troop Meetings take place at Gunnisonville United Methodist Church. The meetings start at 7:00 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. Scouts should attend in their Class A uniform, complete with appropriate insignia and neckerchief, with a t-shirt underneath and bring their Scout handbook, a writing utensil, and note paper.

Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) Meetings

The Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) is made up of the Scout (youth) Leaders of Troop 77. They are responsible for planning troop meetings and activities.  The Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) meets the 4th Wed of the month.

Committee Meetings (Adult Meetings)

The role of the Committee (adult leaders) is to provide support to the Scoutmaster and the Patrol Leaders Council (youth leaders). The Committee meets the 4th Wednesday of the month.

All adults who are passionate about the emotional growth and leadership development of Troop 77 youth and the future of Troop 77, are invited to attend the Committee Meetings. Adults do not need to be a registered Committee member to attend and speak at the meetings.

Adults wishing to take a more active role in the Committee and be a voting member of the Committee, must register as a Troop Committee Member through the Boy Scouts of America and complete of online Youth Protection Training as required by the BSA. Committee members are instrumental in the success of the Troop, and all parents/guardians (moms as well as dads) are encouraged to be on the Committee for at least one year during their Scout's tenure in the program.  Adults can be a Committee member for as many years as they like.

The number of adults actively participating in their Troop (such as going on campouts and helping plan events) lightens the load for the entire Troop and presents a greater number of event opportunities for our Scouts.

Troop Campouts

Troop 77 campouts and weekend activities are generally occur about once a month. Typically, Scouts meet at the Memorial Building early Friday evening and return to the Memorial Building late morning/early afternoon on Sunday. Troop 77 youth and adults always travel in their Class A uniform.

Parents who go on weekends generally bring their own tent and work together on adult food. Boys cook for themselves by patrol.
