I would like to recognize the quality of players at West End in general the last 15 years . This year I had the honor of coaching the 13 year old all star team . We picked 15 players from just over 40 players . We won Districts over Altoona , who picked from over 113 players . We swept Altoona and moved on to States . We went undefeated in pool play and advanced to the elimination round . We won our first game and advanced to the championship game . Both teams advanced to Regionals in Lake George after Mifflin County defeated us . At Lake George we needed the last game of pool play to end with a defeat of the host team by another team . Unfortunately it didn't happen and we were eliminated . However , it was a tremendous showing , especially considering we were very short handed as 2 members of our team could not make the trip to regionals and another was sidelined by an injury sustained at Districts . Also I would like to point out that 8 of last years World Series 15 year old team were on the Big League all star team ( which league was revived after a three year hiatus ) . The all star team also had a 15 year old west end player . This team got to the regional championship game and was defeated by the tournament host team after some questionable issues . If these players continue with Big League I feel confident they will reach a World Series in Easley SC.

How I decide whom I will vote to be an all star. 1. Attitude of player. Is he a team player, cheers on other players if he is not a starter. A player must accept his role on a team. There is no mandatory play in tournament play. 2. Defensive skills. I ask managers what other position players play. I can not vote for 5 catchers and have no outfielders on the team. 3. Pitching. Defense and Pitching wins games. 4. Offensive Stats. Batting average is only part of what I look at. Averages are misleading, some players hit well on average pitching but not against good pitching, I look at strikeouts, on base percentage, runs scored and rbis. I look at speed of players. 5. At no time do I look where a player played Little League. Once a player signs up for West End he is no longer part of little league. 6. A player who was on one of our all star teams last year has to prove to me he is still one of the top 15 players. I vote for who I believe are the best players.

I want to thank you for all your hard work and dedication to baseball. This was my son's third year playing at West End. Everyone has always been wonderful and the fields are awesome. Thanks again for a great experience!

We as parents of the 15 yr old all-stars are VERY PROUD of you. You boys have nothing to hang your heads about this year. Tri Township has very BIG shoes too fill. As a team you have set very big standards for them to follow. We have alot of memories and we became ONE big family. Please keep in touch and can't wait to see everybody in high school baseball next and who knows maybe for BIG LEAGUE we will be back together like always. One last thing you boys are our WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS. I'm proud to say for the last three years I had 16 boys not 2.

West End Baseball is a tremendous organization which permits hundreds of boys to continue in their pursuit of their baseball skills. Two quality fields are available for both practice as well as games. We are putting many hours and money towards maintenance due to the rainy weather. Perhaps it is time to have a fund raiser devoted exclusively towards the purchase of a full infield tarp for Winder Field. Both teams would be responsible for placing it on & removal of the tarp at game times. We cannot afford to have games postponed at the rate we have experienced this season. Far too much revenue has been lost!

I just want to take a moment and thank Coach Dinsmore, his coaching staff, and the boys who play for them. My son suffered a concussion while playing high school baseball, and has been unable to play since April 14th. Mr Dinsmore has communicated his concern for Nick since this happened, updating the team, and even coming to our home to check on Nick, even brought our son a team jacket, reiterating to him that he is still a part of the team.As most of you know Nick loves to play the game of baseball, and misses the competition greatly, that is why he decided to play at West End. Cyndie, Nick and myself really appreciate his whole team and hopefully he can get back to play. Thank you again Coach, you are a class act!!

I want to tell everyone who hasn't had the opportunity to come down and watch the 14 year olds at the World Series how great the experience has been. ESPN had a really nice interview with one of the kid's host families and it captured the essence of the experience for these kids and their family. Families have opened up their homes and hearts to our kids and it is truly an amazing experience I hope all West Enders get a chance to experience. To think that we have been fortunate enough to do this two years in a row is a true blessing. Thank you to all the players who have made this possible. You have competed so well and represented us to the rest of the world that I can't even begin to explain how proud we are of you all. Your great effort is appreciated. Good Luck tonight and like former MLB player Tim Raines told you at the Mid Atlantic Regionals: Play Hard, Give great effort and good things will surely follow.

I just want to mention that ESPN Williamsport will be in Virginia to broadcast EVERY West End game, either on the internet at www.espnwilliamsport.com or on the radio with the schedule permitting on AM 1050 and FM 104.1. These are great young men that really represented our community with pride... VERY WELL. Williamsport and the Susquehanna Valley couldn't have found a better group to represent us. Having the opportunity to reach the World Series, two years in a row is unbelievable. This time, let's kick some Tallahassee butt and bring the trophy to Williamsport where it belongs. I agree with the previous posts, that Jim and Bonnie Winder give their all to making West End Babe Ruth a very successful league.

It is unfair to make criticize someone and then not leave your name . Jim and Bonnie trat the young men at West End like their own children. They treat adults as if they are their family . I have been associated with youth baseball for over 25 years . This includes 5 different leagues and many all star teams . No league or league officers have ever been more fair , committed and generous of their time .

I agree. Nobody should be attacking Jim Winder about anything West End. Jim has been with this league for around 30 years. He and Bonnie do so much that people do not even realize. He has earned everyone's respect and we should be thankful that we have Jim and Bonnie Winder running West End Baseball. There is usually more to it than what people want to take the time to hear about. I trust Jim to make decisions for West End every day to support all the teams and kids playing baseball at West End. Open your eyes and ears and see how much the Winder's do for West End Baseball and our boys.

the person below is very disrespectful and has no power to deside what is and sint right for this league. Mr. Jim Winder has done nothing but great things for our league. with no Jim there is no league he dedicates his whole lifr to this league and feild. he is there every night makieing sure us kids have a league to play in. so whoever wrote this comment below needs to think about that before they go and say dumb stuff like that!

I received the following email from a representative of Tri Township. West End 13 year olds played against Tri-Township at the Pennsyvlania State Championships in Phoenixville, PA. I forwarded this message via email, but wanted to post it for all to see... ---- Forwarded Message ----- From: kenirwin@comcast.net To: webr2006@comcast.net Sent: Thursday, August 13, 2009 10:59:06 PM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: The Champs West End Baseball, We wanted to say congrats to the 13U Regional Champions. We had the honor to play the champs in the State tournament and were very impressed with their players and coaches. They are obviuosly a great team which we wish the best of luck at the World Series in Utah. We hope we get the opportunity to compete with them next year at States. West End is obviously a great program as we see other ages are doing well in their respective tournaments. Again, good luck at the World Series. All of West End should be proud of the way the 13 year old team is representing their area, as well as our region. West End also has the best fans. I wish my parents and families, especially the Mom's, would be into the game as much as they are for every pitch. WIN IT ALL. Tri-Township

Hey Everyone. Checking in from Phoenixville, PA at the 13 year old State Babe Ruth Tournament. Congrats to our 15's on beating District 1 yesterday. We play Tri township tonight at 8:00pm. Watch for updates on tonights game results. Tri Township appears to be a solid defensive team with good pitching and a couple of guys who throw pretty hard.

I forgot one thing , we need to work on ways to raise funds for team and league expenses . If you have an idea or want to make a contribution contact an officer of the league . It will make you feel great to contribute time or assets , as someone who coached in four world series and followed two other world series teams , and , to some extent made some small contributions , I can tell you it feels great .
