"SOFTBALL IS LIFE - THE REST IS JUST DETAILS"

Live it - Learn it - Love it.

Confucius Says:

"One who is out on a called third strike has no one to blame but themself.  There is no excuse one can give to justify standing there and letting the ball go by when you already have two strikes against you."

What Does A WGS Season Look Like?

Just in case you are wondering what a typical WGS season consists of, the following may help:

T-Ball (K and 1st grades) meets on Saturday mornings at the Middle School fields, starting the first weekend in May. Sessions run from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. The season last approximately 10 weeks and concludes mid-July;

The Junior Division (grades 2, 3 and 4) plays on Wednesdays and Fridays at 6:30 p.m. Occasionally, for odd scheduling purposes or to make up rain outs, they may play on Mondays as well. Games, all of which are played at the Middle School fields are limited to 5 innngs or 90 minutes, whichever comes first. The Junior season typically starts around the third week in May and runs to the middle of July;

Minors (grades 5 through 8) play at Gladstone Park at Whips Field although on occasion they may play at Gladstone Center. Games are 7 innings long and are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays with a few Sunday afternoon games thrown in as well. Games are typically played at 6:30 and 7:45 p.m. (under the lights). The Minor Division season runs from late May through the end of July including a championship tournament;

Majors (high school) also play at Gladstone Park on Mondays and Wednesdays (also with some Sundays). Depending on the number of teams, there may be single games at 7:00 or doubled up at 6:30 and 7:45 p.m. The Major Division season normally runs from the first of June through the end of July, also including a championship tournament.

About WGS

WGS is a community based not-for-profit corporation established and maintained to provide a summer recreational softball program for the girls of Westchester and nearby suburbs.  The league is organized into four main divisions: T-Ball, open to Kindergarten and First graders, T-Ball offers competitive games in a beginner/teaching atmosphere to help those entering the sport learn how the game is played;  Juniors, a competitive group of teams for second through fourth graders that play against each other on Wednesdays and Fridays while still maintaining that learning base; Minors, for fifth through eighth grade girls where the competition on Tuesdays and Thursdays gets tough and teams vie for divisional and end of season tournament honors; Majors - high school level play where players vie against their friends on Mondays and Wednesdays to see who can be top dog in the division and tournament race.  We may be slow pitch, but we are still damned competitive and loads of fun.  And coming soon - fall ball!
