2008 Summer Season The Havertown Eagles Win their 4th straight GPMABL championship! The dynasty continues as the Eagles did all the lil things right to win the 2008 trophy. John Lee, who also won the GPMABL league CY YOUNG award, was a big part of the Eagles success. John won 10 regular season games and then stepped it up in the playoffs winning 4 more. There were alot of contributing factors that lead Havertown Eagles to their 4th title. So many players stepped up at different times and provided the clutch hit, that great defensive play, or just that spark or big heart that the team needed to keep on going. Havertown Eagles playoff standouts are as follows... John Lee, Gerry Sasse, Kevin Conklin, Mike Carfagno, Jeff Monaco, Marcus Spero, Dave Polgar, Mitch Colletto, Mike Young, Sam Miller, Keith Gorman, Mike Stott, and to the rest of the Eagles baseball club. Nice job Eagles!

2008 Players of the week! Summer Season
Week 1 vs. the Mustangs- Jim Dirisio gets off to a hot start helping the Eagles win game 1 by a score of 6-3. Jim was 2 for 4 at the dish with 4 rbi's! Nice job Jim. In game 2 action, Gerry Sasse showed his veteran stripes by pitching a complete game gem. Gerry only allowed 3 hits in the game while striking out 7 batters. Eagles win game two 12-2.
Week 2 vs. the Comets- Dave Polgar started the Eagles off on the right path to victory in game one by going 4 for 4 with a walk at the plate! Dave also scored 2 runs and stole 2 bases. Eagles win game one 9-6. In game 2 action Jeff Monaco was an RBI machine driving in 5 runs including the game winner in the bottom of the 7th with two outs! Jeff also proved to be untouchable on the mound in two innings of work. Eagles win game two 7-6 and move to 4-0 on the season!
Week 3 vs. the Yankees- Rained out.
Week 4 vs. the Phillies- John Lee pitched another complete game gem picking up his 3rd win of the season. John only allowed 1 run off 3 hits while striking out 7 batters in the Eagles 6-1 victory. James Nix was 2 for 3 at the plate. In game 2, Eagles rookie draft pick pitcher, Patrick Sowers, broke into the win column with his first GPMABL win. Pat only allowed 1 run through 3 innings of work in the Eagles 8-1 win.
Week 5 vs. the Reds- The pitching duo of John Lee and Gerry Sasse was the key to the Eagles sweep of the Reds. The Eagles won game one by a score of 2-0. John Lee only allowed 4 hits while striking out 5 batters in the Eagles victory. In game 2 Gerry Sasse was nearly untouchable. Gerry only allowed 3 hits on the day in the Eagles 4-0 win over the Reds. The Eagles stay hot and move to 8-0 on the season.
Week 6 vs. the Red Sox- Eagles beat the Red Sox in extra innings thanks to the help of John Lee and Kevin Conklin! John Lee threw all 8 innings only allowing 4 hits and 1 un-earned run to give the Eagles the edge. In the 8th inning Kevin Conklin drove in two runs with a triple followed by a sac fly RBI by Marcus Spero to put the Eagles ahead for good. Eagles win game one 3-1. In game two action, James Nix picked up the win on the hill, while Dave Polgar went 3 for 4 at the plate. Eagles win game two 4-3.
Week 7 vs. the A's- The Eagles split with the A's on the hottest day of the year. The Eagles got off to a great start in game one but, unfortunately dropped game two for their first loss of the season. Rob Harvey was 2 for 3 in game one with two RBIs and John Lee threw yet another complete game for his 6th win of the year. Brian Ward was also 2 for 3 at the plate with 1 run scored. Eagles win game one by a score of 6-3. Game two was not the Eagles best as the early mistakes led to the A's victory. Eagles lose game two 7-3 and move to 11-1 on the year.
Week 8 vs. the Colt45's- The Eagles drop a close one after 12innings of play. After the 3rd inning both teams stopped hitting and it became a defensive dual when the Colt45's managed to plate a run in the bottom of the 12th to win the Father's Day match-up. John Lee pitched well on the day as well as Gerry Sasse but, the Eagles offense, despite two hits a piece from Keith Gorman and Jeff Monaco, just couldn't get it going. Eagles move to 11-2 on the season and are determined to finish the season strong as they move into the dog days of summer!
Week 9 vs. the A's- The Eagles offense lights up and scores 29 runs in two games! Sam Miller lead the charge going 5 for 7 with a walk, 5 Rbi's, and 4 runs scored. Sam, since moving to the lead off spot five games ago, has 10 hits with a current five game hitting streak! Nice job Sam Miller! New comer C.J. Boyle also went 2 for 4 on the day with 3 Rbi's in his Eagles debut and Chris Macias finally made his return to the diamond going 1 for 1 with a walk. Nice job to the entire Eagles offense.
Week 10 vs. the Blue Rocks- The Eagles split with the Blue Rocks. In game 1, after 8 innings of play, Eagles Mike Young drove in the winning run to give the Eagles victory. Mike Young has been a solid force behind the plate for the Eagles and perhaps the best catcher in the GPMABL. John Lee also notched his 8th win of the year in the Eagles victory. This is John lee's 18th GPMABL win in a row. In fact John lee hasn't lost a GPMABL game since 2006 during an injury which kept him out most of the year. In game 2, the Eagles could not get the offense going. Despite the efforts of Marcus Spero and Chris Macias going 2 for 3 at the plate, the Eagles dropped game 2 by a score of 4-3 and move to 14-3 on the season.
Week 11 vs. the Mustangs- The Eagles take two from the Mustangs and move to 16-3 on the season. In game 1 action, John Lee put up his 9th win of the season. John threw a complete game shutout while striking out 9 batters. Wayne Robinson and Dave Polgar knocked in the runs. Nice! Game two felt like a one legged man in an azz kicking contest. The game was going smoothly for the Eagles until a couple of costly errors led to a tie game, not to mention other contributing factors to which the Eagles had no control. In the end veteran pitcher Gerry Sasse stayed strong on the mound through 9innings of work for the extra inning win. Mike Carfagno, team captain and 5yr Eagles veteran led the offense going 2 for 4 with 2 Rbi's!
The Eagles magic number is now 1!
Week 12 vs. the Yankees- John Lee pitches the Eagles to their 4th straight GPMABL Penn Division Pennant! John threw a complete game only allowing 4 hits and 0 earned runs, while striking out 4 batters in the Eagles 2-1 victory. John Lee moves to 10-0 on the season. Wayne Robinson and Jim Dirisio had the only two rbi's of the game. In game two, the Eagles stumbled out of the gate but came back tough down the stretch. Eagles lose game two 10-6. Chris Kestner was 1 for 3 with 2 rbi's. Mitch Colletto and Wayne Robinson both had 1 rbi.
Week 13 vs. the Red Sox- It was a ten inning battle but the Eagles manged to come away with the victory. Marcus Spero made it a new game in the 5th with a two run homer to tie the game at five runs a piece. The Eagles and Red Sox battled it out five more innings before Dave Polgar, who was 3for4 at the plate, knocked in the game winning run in the bottom of the 10th to secure the Eagles victory. Jeff Monaco came away with the win on the hill pitching two shut out, no hit innings in the 9th and 10th! Nice Job to Marcus, Dave, and Jeff! Game two was canceled due to rain.
Week 14 PLAYOFFS- First round, single elimination vs. the Mustangs. It took 12 innings to get the job done but the Eagles managed to do so with a 4-3 victory over the Mustangs. John Lee threw all 12 innings throwing over 140 pitches to ensure the Eagles win. John has been the GPMABL poster child for great pitching. Kevin Conklin knocked in the game winning rbi!
Week 14 PLAYOFFS- Second round, best of 3 series vs. the Blue Rocks.
Game 1- The Eagles lost 4-2 to the Blue Rocks. One or two missed opportunities led to the Eagles loss. The defense and the offense must do all of the little things right and this just wasn't the game. The Eagles will live and learn though and be ready to come back next Sunday to take care of business.
Week 15 PLAYOFFS- Second round, best of 3 series vs. the Blue Rocks.
Game 2- The Eagles and the Blue Rocks game was postponed due to rain. The Eagles and the Rocks will resume play next week tied 1-1 going into the top of the 7th inning.
Week 16 PLAYOFFS- Second round, best of 3 series vs. the Blue Rocks.
Game 2 continued- The Eagles win in extra innings over the Blue Rocks to force a game 3! After a week rain delay and extra innings, the eagles win 5-3. John Lee finished what he started on the hill only allowing 1 unearned run through 9 innings of work. Dave Polgar, Mike Carfagno, and Jeff Monaco all lead the charge of the offense.
Week 16 PLAYOFFS- Game 3- It was yet another close game until The Eagles secured victory in the 6th inning scoring 6 runs off 4 hits. Keith Gorman had a bases clearing double while teammates Kevin Conklin and Sam Miller also chimed in with the hits. Pitcher, John Lee threw back to back games. From game 2, John went right into game 3 where he pitched the entire game. John has been the teams workhorse on the mound and has proven to the team why he is one of the best players in the league.
Week 17 PLAYOFFS- Game 1- CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS - The Eagles match up against the Philadelphia Yankees for the Championship! (best of 3) In game 1, the Eagles sent veteran Gerry Sasse to the hill. Gerry pitched very well only allowing 3 runs. The Eagles were down most of the game but, the hard work on the mound by Sasse paid off and was given a lil help from the offense. The Eagles put up the runs in the bottom of the 6th scoring 4 runs, with a monster 2 run double by Sam Miller to give the Eagles a 5-3 lead. Gerry Sasse then came out for the top of the 7th and shut the door giving the Eagles a 1-0 series lead. The eagles look to close things out next week for their 4th title in a row!
GPMABL LEAGUE ALL STAR GAME - 8/22/08
The All Star game was Friday August 22nd, located at Frawley Stadium in Delaware, home of the Blue Rocks. The Penn Division all stars managed by Eagles own James Nix, with the help of Brian Ward and Pat Sowers, won the game by a score of 10-2! Highlights included Gerry Sasse and John Lee who both pitched shut out innings. Dave Polgar, Kevin Conklin, Keith Gorman, James Nix, and Gerry Sasse all had hits in the game as well! Another great highlight was Havertown Eagle, John Lee, who received the GPMABL leagues Cy Young Award. Way to go John! It was a great night and the Havertown Eagle All Stars represented the team well.
Week 17 PLAYOFFS- Game 2- CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS - The Eagles complete the two game sweep of the Yankees and win their 4th straight title in a row! It was a one and done game plan for the Eagles and they executed it well. John Lee, the GPMABL league's Cy Young award winner, took the hill with one thing in mind...to win. John only allowed 3 earned runs in the Eagles 6-4 victory over the Yanks. Thus completing his second season as an undefeated pitcher with a record of 26-0. The Eagles offense came out on fire putting up 4 runs in the first inning. Kevin Conklin was 3 for 4 on the day with a stolen base and 2 runs scored. The key to the game was Kevin's lead off triple in the top of the 5th inning to put the Eagles ahead for good. Eagles veteran and team captain, Mike Carfagno was 3 for 3 on the day with 2 rbi's. Mike has really stepped it up this playoffs and helped carry the offensive charge all the way to title town. Way to go Eagles!
