This gameday will feature coaches from the HHEFL Northern Conference, so mark your calendars coaches. Starting time will be early, as games are scheduled for all day. The game that would never end-Illini wins overtime thriller!
November 23, 2008
On November 21st the Michigan Wolverines and Illinois Illini played one of the longest and most exciting games in recent HHEFL memory. In the end it was the Illini who was able to overcome in overtime for the win...to the highlights we go, as reported by Matthew Culp...
First Quarter
Illinois got things rolling in a hurry. Following a touch back on the opening kickoff...Illinois needed just one play to score. #31, Antoineo Harris, broke a beautiful sweep to the left and went 80 yards on the first offensive play for the touchdown to make it 7-0 Illini with 14:45 to play in the first. But the excitement was just starting! Michigan came right back with a big run, as #20 Hart broke a 78 yard touchdown run on the Wolverines second play from scrimmage...but the extra point was blocked to make it 7-6. The remander of the first quarter was a long drive by Illinois, as the Illini converted 3 first downs to get the ball to the Michigan 38.
Second Quarter
What became one of the key plays of the first half, was one of my fondest moments. The Illini finally got stopped and faced a 4th and 5 at the Michigan 33 yard line. Illinois deceided to go for it and got sacked for a 15 yard loss...jublilation on the Michigan sideline...but wait a minute...there is a flag on the play...Michigan had 12 men on the field...5 yard penalty and a first down for Illinois! The funny thing was that we had a "Kid timeout" before the play and I had a hard time containing myself, because I knew what was coming for Michigan. That play was key because two plays later Quarterback Kurt Kittner hit #24 Carey Davis for a 33 yard touchdown pass (extra point no good) and it was Illinois 13-6 with 4:42 to go in the half. Michigan wasted no time in answering. On Michigan's next possession it took just two plays to tie the game...again it was Michigan's "Hart" #20 who again broke a long run...this time 80 yards for a touchdown...the extra point was good and we were tied at 13 with 2:55 to go in the game. On Illinois next possession the Wolverine defense would force them to punt from there own 22 following a three and out. Michigan responded quickly! They started at their own 40 and after a couple of plays the got the ball to the Illinois 45...then with just :08 left in the half #20 Hart did it again...a 45 yard touchdown run (extra point was blocked) and Michigan had the lead going into halftime...19-13
Third Quarter
The Wolverines got the ball to start the second half and Hart picked up where he left off. On the drives second play he broke a 61 yard run down to the Illinois 19, then punched it in on the next play with a 19 yard touchdown run to make it 26-13 Michigan. At this point the Illinois head coach became a little frustrated with his defense, but came out firing on their next drive. That drive would end in a 8 play 65 yard drive for a touchdown with #6 Brandon Lloyd punching it in on a one yard plunge over the top...the extra point was good and it was 26-20 Michigan with 1:35 to go in the third.
Fourth Quarter
The end of the third and begining of the fourth quarter was an unusual long Wolverine drive for little yardage. The Illini finally was able to stop Hart. The Wolverines were faced with a 4th and 10 from their own 35 and with a poor kicker, they deceided not to punt and to go for it...the Illini held and tookover possession at the Michigan 33. Five plays later the Illini tied the game up when Kittner hit #24 Carey Davis for a 25 yard touchdown strike...we had another blocked extra point and the game was tied at 26. It only got worse for Michigan, as their next possession they again got stopped...this time they punted...only to have #6 Brandon Lloyd return the ball 53 yards to the Michigan 23. On the very next play Kittner hit #17 Greg Lewis for a 23 yard touchdown pass. The two point conversion attempt was no good...and just like that the Illini went from being down 26-20 to being up 32-26 with just 1:54 to go in the game....but Michigan responded in a big way! With time running out Michigan got a big 30 yard run by Hart. That lead to a 47 yard touchdown run by Hart with 1:06 to play and the Michigan sideline was going nuts...and yes...you guessed it...the extra point was no good...we were tied at 32. All the momentum was in the hands of Michigan and that momentum quickly turned to a disaster for Illinois. The Illini got a 12 yard kickoff return. There first pass was incomplete and then disaster! With :14 seconds left Kittner rolled to his left looking downfield for a big play...he threw in the direction of Greg Lewis #17 when Linebacker #6 for Michigan stepped in front of the pass and intercepted it...Kittner had a chance to make the tackle, but over ran the Wolverine and he rumbled 32 yard for a touchdown...it was pandamona on the Michigan sidelines...this time the extra point was good and it was 39-32 Michigan with just :10 left in the game...it was over right...that is why we play the full 60 minutes! Just needing a stop for a Michigan win...the Illini needed a miracle...and they got one! It was a deep kickoff to #31 Antoineo Harris and the guy who scored the first touchdown...scored the last...as he could...go...all...the...way...yes it was a 100 yard kickoff return...a thing of beauty, as at least five Wolverines had a clear shot at him, but could not make the play. The ever important extra point now would deceide overtime or a Michigan victory...this time it was good and after 3 hours and 45 minutes of play...we were off to overtime...
Overtime
The Wolverines got the ball first, as we played your standard college overtime runs. At this point is where the ref left for home, as it was 12:30 my time...but the game went on. As you might of guessed...Hart broke a 20 yard touchdown run on the third play in overtime...but the big story was...the extra point was blocked. Michigan now up 45-39 needed a stop that did not come. The Illini scored on the third play of there possesion and made the extra point to capture the 46-45 thrilling win. This game became the highest scoring game in HHEFL history and definately one for the ages!
Stats for this game and game highlights for all games will be available soon...Long Live Football!
November 1st HHEFL Gameday is fun for all!
November 2, 2008
Tim Young played host to a great day of Miniature Football from his home in Elkhart, Indiana. Seven games were played as the HHEFL welcomed three new coaches into the league and they were Jimbo Dunagan, two time Miggle champion Edgar Downs and Joe Allore...all from the Chicago area. All game and stats highlights will be availble soon on this website, including photos which will be in our photo album section hopefully by the end of the week.
Thanks to all for a great day of Miniature football, as the 2008 HHEFL college season goes into full gear!
Date is set...November 1st in Elkhart, Indiana
October 23, 2008
The time and date are set. Our first major gathering for the 2008 HHEFL season will be next Saturday, November 1st, starting at 10am at Tim Young's home in Elkhart, Indiana! It should be a great day of fellowship and electric football, as the coaches of the HHEFL "South" face off against the coaches from the HHEFL "North" for a first time meeting between all coaches. Bring your boards, teams and determination...as the 2008 season rolls on...stay tuned on this website for gameday coverage coming November 3rd!
A major change in format for the 2008 HHEFL college season....
October 1, 2008
The 620 series board has been a HHEFL tradion since it was formed back in 2005. By using the same board size through the years, we have been able to establish consistent comparasions in regards to stats from season to season. Now with the addition of several coaches in the Chicago area, and since most of these coaches use monster boards, the HHEFL commissioners have deceided to allow boards of all sizes for this season. However, the championship bowl game will still be played on the official HHEFL 620 field cover, but all home teams will have the option of choosing what board size they can use. Hopefully this will work out well for all coaches.
In other news...mark your calendars for October 25 or November 1st, as this month's session moves to Elkhart, Indiana and Tim Young's residence. The commissioners are still trying to finalize plans for October's session, in which we hope each coach will be able to atleast get two games in against a coach not from their area. We need all coaches to contact Matt Culp on which day works best for you, so we can deceide on one date that works best for everyone. A date will be announced soon, with coaches who plan to be there and a schedule of teams that will play. If you want to play someone specific that day, then please contact the HHEFL home office. As for the schedule, the plan is for everyone to play everyone at least once. The goal is eight games for each coach, but following the October meeting a more detailed schedule will be ironed out. Games and highlights to come, as the Chicago area coaches plan to get together before the October meeting.
One more piece of business...if you have not turned in your 2008 rosters for your college team, please do so prior to the October gathering. We will also be taking head shots (like the ones in the coaches section) of each coach in front of our banner, so bring your jerseys...it should be a great afternoon and Tim is a great host.
Stats for the first three games have been tabulated and will be posted soon, along with complete game writeups. Stay Tuned for more updates!
The 2008 HHEFL College season has begun!
September 8, 2008
On September 6th the 2008 HHEFL season began in Kokomo, Indiana. Opening day featured three games. It was a fun day had by all, as Matt Wavra hosted...to the opening day highlights we go...
September 6, 2008 10a.m. Notre Dame Stadium
Florida Gators 43
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 6
The Florida Gators got the 2008 season off to a quick and exciting start, as DeShawn Wynn returned the game's opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown for a early 7-0 lead. Chris Leak then added a 45 yard touchdown run in the first quarter to make it 14-0. DeShawn Wynn then returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and Jemalle Cornelius hauled in a 16 yard touchdown pass from Leak to make it 31-0 Gators at halftime. The third quarter featured both defenses as neither team scored. Emmitt Smith and Andre Caldwell added two touchdowns in the fourth quarter for the Gators. Anthony Johnson caught a 89 yard touchdown pass for Notre Dame late to make the final 43-6.
September 6, 2008 2p.m. Ohio State Stadium
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 6
Ohio State Buckeyes 27
The Fighting Irish took the lead early on their opening drive against Ohio State. Rahib Ismail (the Rocket) hauled in an 88 yard touchdown pass on the game's second play from scrimmage to make it 6-0 Irish. Ohio State would then be shutout the rest of the first quarter, but they came roaring back in the second quarter. The Buckeyes scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter. The first touchdown came on a 6 yard pass from Craig Krenzel to Chris gamble. The second came on a 15 yard run by Ben Hartsock with :38 left to go in the half. Then he scored again on a 1 yard touchdown run just :27 seconds later, as the Irish got pushed backwards and turned the ball over to the Buckeyes. Nate Salley would haul in a 8 yard touchdown in the fourth to make the final 27-6 Buckeyes.
September 6, 2008 6p.m. "The Swamp" Gators Stadium
Ohio State Buckeyes 12
Florida Gators 13
What a game in the final game of the day. It was a defensive shootout in the first half, as both offenses found it difficult to move the ball. Florida lead 3-0 at halftime. The game did not open up until the third quarter. Following a Florida 35 yard field goal, Ben Hartsock returned the kickoff 100 yards for Ohio State to tie the game at 6. Then the extra point was blocked and we were tied at 6 going into the fourth. In the fourth, the Buckeye defense stepped it up getting the ball back for their offense. Following a 9 play drive, the Buckeyes took the lead on a 17 yard run by quarterback Craig Krenzel to make it 12-6 midway through the fourth. The difference in this game was the two point conversion attempt. The Buckeyes went for two, but Krenzel missed a wide open Hartsock for the conversion. With time running out the Gators began their final drive of the game. The Gators got a huge 45 yard kickoff return from Wynn to get the ball to midfield. Two plays later Chris Leak hit Jon Demps on a 55 yard touchdown pass. The Gators hit the extra point and lead 13-12 with less than one minute to play. The Buckeyes did not go down without a fight. Krenzel completed two big passes to get the ball to midfield, but time ran out on the Bucks, as they reached the Gators 35 yard line as time expired.
What a great day of football! Complete play-by-play coverage will be available soon in the game result section. Stats and photos are on their way soon as well, as the 2008 season has begun! Dates for our next meeting will be posted soon, but we have tentatively set the last Saturday in October as our next meeting in Elkhart, Indiana. Stay tuned for more HHEFL updates!

First Annual MFCA Convention in Canton, Ohio is a huge success!
August 12, 2008
On August 1st 2008 coaches from around the country gathered in the Holy Land of football-Canton, Ohio. The 2008 MFCA Convention was a complete and total success. We had fellowship, we had charity, we had miniature football, we had celebrities, we had the Hall of Fame, but most of all we had a gathering of coaches who got together for a weekend of fun. The whole thing began Friday August 1st around 1p.m. with the first annual MFCA business meeting, where the MFCA sat down and discussed our goals for the future of miniature football. It was a meeting that help set the foundation for the organization for many years to come and was a very productive two hours. Later that evening MFCA members joined the Pro Football Ultimate Fand Association (better known as PFUFA) for a welcome banquet. Then at 8:30 p.m. the MFCA membership returned to our hotel and inducted six new members into our very first MFCA Hall of Fame class. Those in the class of 2008 were- Michael Landsman, George Diamond, Reggie Rutledge, Lee Payne, Dirk Thomas and Doc Smeby. It was an outstanding evening. Following the Hall of Fame ceremony it was time to play football, as the "Coaches Point Challenge" tournament began. Many coaches played unitl 4 a.m. in the morning...what a great night.
Saturday was the highlight of the weekend, as coaches traveled to the J. B. Sterns center in Canton, Ohio for a United Way charity event for kids. We had 600-700 kids at the event and MFCA coaches demonstrated the fun of miniature football. The event lasted until 4 p.m. after which some coaches made their way to the Pro Football Hall of Fame for the 2008 NFL Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Some coaches returned to the hotel and the football action resumed...again until 4 a.m. in the morning. On Saturday night we had the winners of our MFCA painting contest, coaches continued to participate in the MFCA Skills Competition and tourney games. Sunday came and the convention began to wrap up. Congratulations to Adrian Baxter who won the Coaches Challenge tournament and also congratulations to all the painting contest winners, along with the skills competition winners.
It was a very special weekend and coaches are still talking about it. We hope to see everyone next year at the 2009 MFCA Convention...until then enjoy the photos in the photo album section of this website and LONG LIVE FOOTBALL!
Only two weeks left until the greatest spectical in miniature football!
July 18, 2008
We are getting close to the main event for 2008... the 2008 MFCA Convention in Canton, Ohio! It has been a very big year in Miniature Football and the HHEFL has anticipated this event to be like none other.
This event is going to have more at it than any other miniature football convention ever! It will all begin on Friday morning August 1st with a four hour MFCA coaches meeting. Free passes will be given to the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame for all MFCA members that signed up and the HHEFL plans on attending Friday afternoon. If that is not enough...Friday evening is the first annual MFCA Hall of Fame Banquet in Canton. We will be inducting six individuals into our first MFCA Hall of Fame class. Immediately following the banquet will begin the official Coaches Challenge MFCA tournament and MFCA National Skills Competition, which will go on all weekend. Then on Saturday the convention kicks into high gear with continued tournament action and the United Way event in Canton from 1-4p.m. The United Way event will be our chance to introduce miniature football to over 1,000 kids, as well as, an all day tailgate party with PFUFA (Professional Football United Fans Association). Had enough yet...not quite! Saturday evening is the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremonies in Canton. Then on Sunday we will wrap up the MFCA tourney and skills competition and get ready for a great afternoon of fun at John Martin's house, as he is hosting a backyard cookout before that evening's main entertainment...the Hall of Fame game between the Washington Redskins and Indianapolis Colts...WHEW! A lot to do and so little time...this is going to be the event of all events...so if you have not made your plans yet, time is running out...it is going to be a weekend of fun, fellowship and unity and is a weekend you don't want to miss!
The HHEFL bus will be leaving July 31st at 10am heading out for Canton, Ohio. I hope to see everyone there and of course we will have a complete photo album of the event available a few days after, so stay tuned to this website for your convention wrapup. We are also organizing our 2008 HHEFL season, hopefully to start at the end of August...the best is yet to come!
Happy 4th of July from the HHEFL!
July 4, 2008
July is here and the HHEFL is enjoying our off season, however our first of two College training camps will be coming up soon. The first is in Logansport on July 12th and the second is going to be July 26th in a location yet to be determined. Anyone interested in coming give Matthew Culp a call. And just so everyone knows...we are working on having three "super weekends" this season instead of meeting once every month. Due to an increase in gas prices and time we are going to limit our season to where we will get together for two weekends and each coach will play four games during the weekend for a total of eight regular season games, then we will have "Championship Week" around New Year's in which we will have all of our college bowl games. The bowl games will be matched up based on your regular season finish, with the final game being the 2008 HHEFL College Championship game.
It should be a fun season, so stay tuned to this websites for announcements for the two weekends in the fall and enjoy the summer!

On August 17th, 2008 the CSL will begin it's 25th season and at the same time it will celebrate the 35th year of great electric football action. Let the Pearl Anniversary begin...stay tuned for continued updates as the countdown has begun for the begining of the CSL season, as well as the 2008 HHEFL College season...
The votes are in...Tony Romo is your 2007 HHEFL MVP!
May 31, 2008
The 2007 HHEFL ProSeason is officially over and with the help of the MFCA, we now have our 2007 League MVP...claiming 53.57% of the votes, the 2007 MVP is Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys.
Romo lead the charge for the Cowboys with a league high 986 yards passing, 12 Touchdowns and a completion percentage of 59.6%. He won the "Top Gun" award and aided the Dallas Cowboys in clinching the "top passing" offense award. The Dallas Cowboys also brought home the "top defense" award with 24 sacks. The Chicago Bears, coached by Adian Seldon, brought home the coveted "top rushing" offense award. Thanks for a great season everyone and stay tuned to this website for further updates, as we plan on having our 2008 College season training camp the second week of July...see you then!
Matt Wavra and the San Diego Chargers are the 2007 HHEFL Champions!
May 18, 2008
Matt Wavra is your 2007 HHEFL League Champion, as his San Diego Chargers rolled into Logansport on May 8th and handed Matthew Culp and the Dallas Cowboys one of their worst defeats by the final of 32-7. It is Matt Wavra's first HHEFL title. It was a game of big plays for the Chargers, as the Cowboys finished with 394 yards of total offense to the Chargers 228, but the Cowboys failed to take advantage of long drives and the Chargers, well they needed just one guy to make the plays...Drew Brees...to the Highlights we go...
2007 Hoosier Heartland Electric Football League Championship • May 8, 2008 • Logansport, Indiana • Culp Stadium 5pm
San Diego Chargers 32
Dallas Cowboys 7
First Half
How does a team finish with a 14 play possession advantage...166 yards more of total offense and playing on their home field? One answer...big plays! The 2007 HHEFL ProSeason Championship was won on big plays by the Chargers and great defense when they needed it most. The Cowboys got the ball first and following a 18 yard Kickoff Return by Terry Glenn got off to a good start. On the third play of the drive Tony Romo hit Julius Jones for a 30 yard gain out to the Dallas 41 yard line. From there it was all San Diego. A short run, two incomplete passes and a sack of Romo on fourth down and the Chargers took over at the Dallas 33 yard line for their first drive. It took just two plays to strike pay dirt. LaDainian Tomlinson got out of the back field and Drew Brees hit him in stride for a 33 yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0 San Diego. The Dallas fans were in shock, but the Cowboys quickly rebounded. The Cowboys took over on their next drive and began to move the ball down the field. The Cowboys one and only score then came on a 47 yard touchdown pass from Romo to tide end Anthony Fasano to make it 7-7 early in the second quarter. Little did anyone know that would be the end of the scoring for the Dallas offensive machine. The Chargers next drive was a short one. Two straight runs netted -2 yards. On third and 12 Drew Brees did it again, as #86 Keenan McCardell hauled in a beautiful catch down field, then out ran Terence Newman to the endzone...it was a 82 yard touchdown strike just like that and it was the death blow for the Cowboys...their defense never recovered. They had given up two huge pass plays and now trailed 13-7, as the extra point was no good. The Cowboys next drive started at their own 31. After seven plays, they got the ball out to mid-field, but again they turned the ball over on downs, as four straight pass plays failed to push them into Charger terriotory. Two plays later...yes...you guessed it...it was Drew Brees going deep...this time it was a 47 yard touchdown pass to tide end Eric Parker and the route was on at 20-7. With time running out in the first half, the Cowboys got a glimmer of hope. Terry Glenn broke a 73 yard return on the ensueing kickoff. With time for one more play, the Cowboys opted not to go for the field goal and went for the touchdown...the Chargers held and their lead was 20-7.
Second Half
Feeling a little desprite after a very unsuccessful defensive effort in the first half...the Cowboys opened the second half with an unside kick attempt. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, the kick did not go 10 yards and again the Chargers had a short field. However, for the first time in the game the Cowboys defense held and the Chargers came away with only a field goal to make it 23-7. The bad luck continued for Dallas on the next drive...it was a 4 and out. Two incomplete passes and a 4th down sack at their own 31 yard line all but put the game away for the Chargers. The final play of the third quarter was a 21 yard touchdown run by Clinton Hart to make it 29-7. The Cowboys opened the fourth quarter with a 57 yard kickoff return by Terry Glenn. However, the very first play from scrimmage was utter disaster for the Cowboys, as Romo threw an ill advised pass into double coverage and got picked off by Donnie Edwards of San Diego. San Diego then ran the ball and the clock down. They finished the drive with a 48 yard field goal to make it 32-7. The Cowboys drove late and the final play of the drive was a 46 yard field goal by the Cowboys...no good...and that is how it ended...the San Diego Chargers had won their first Championship!
To look at the stats in this one and the final score would make anyone wonder. The Cowboys had 217 total yards in kickoff returns...they had great field position, but when they got into the Charger's side of the field they simply could not make big plays. Put that with the fact that they turned the ball over on downs three times on their own side of the field and the interception and you quickly realize they could not win. The Chargers came to play.
The unanamious choice for Superbowl I MVP was Drew Brees. He finished 5 for 8 for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns. He completed 5 passes to five different receivers. Touchdown passes of 33, 47 and 82 yards sealed the Championship for the Chargers. For the Cowboys it was a rough day for Romo. Romo went 9 for 19 for 173 yards and 1 touchdown with 1 huge interception. Like Brees...9 completions 8 different receivers, but only one big play.
Congratulations to the Chargers and Matt Wavra and thanks to all of the Hoosier Heartland EFL coaches for another great season. More stats on this game will be available in our Game result section on this website. And don't forget...our 2008 HHEFL College season will be starting in the second week of August! Get those College teams ready and stay tuned for summer camp get together dates...until next time...LONG LIVE FOOTBALL!

The First Annual Hoosier Heartland Invitational is a huge success!
April 20, 2008
Greetings from HHEFL co-commissioner Matthew Culp...What a day for miniature football! On Saturday April 19th, 2008 Boy Scouts from the Logansport, Indiana area converged on the Ramada Inn for three hours of miniature football...three hours of competition and three hours of fun. The Boy Scout event began at 9am and had representation from Troop 213, Troop 202, Pack 3200 and Pack 3203. HHEFL coaches took the Scouts in groups around stations to show them the simple skills of electric football...and it is hard to say who had more fun...the coaches or the kids. On behalf of the HHEFL League, we would like to thank everyone who came to the event. It was our pleasure to share our hobby with you and it was also great to get to know some very nice parents during the event. Before I go any farther I need to say thank you to some people who made everything possible...
First, I would like to thank my sister and Scout leader Cheryl, George my brother-in-law and fellow Scout master, my daughter and most of all...my wife Mary for her patients and all the help she gave me over the last month getting setup.
Second, I would like to thank two people who donated special items for this event. I would like to personally thank George Diamond who donated 14 miniature football teams, which we had a drawing for...each winner getting one team. Thank you George that was very generous and the kids loved the figures. I would also like to thank Delayne and Michael Landsman who donated a Rose Bowl board, which we had a drawing to one lucky Scout. That Scout was Aaron Pearson and it is our hope that him and his father will enjoy many years of great miniature football action on it. I would also like to thank the Landsmans for donating 15% back to the Boy Scouts of everything we sold at the event. They provided catalogs and order sheets that made everything go smoothly. I would also like to thank all of our raffle donators...John DiCarlo, Al Dunham and Lynn Scmidt.
Third, I would like to thank Matt Wavra, Sergei Chernetsky and Al Dunham. Without their help it simple would not have happened...thanks guys.
Now on to the highlights...
We had four packs at the event and we had 20 participants in the quarterback painting contest and the winners were....
Most Original: Joey Brooke-Timmins (Pack 3200)
Most Accurate: Brady Shipman (Pack 3203)
Most Creative: Aaron Pearson (Pack 3200)
As mentioned about...Aaron Pearson won the Rose Bowl Electric Football game in the drawing.
We had two Skills competition winners. In group one it was Zachery Angot and in group two it was Matt Mitchell. Congratulations guys!
Your winner for the Hoosier Heartland Invitational Grand Prize Raffle worth over $300 was....DAVID BROWN of Lafeyette, Indiana.
To this point...through raffles and donations we have raised $305 towards our goal of $900. I just wanted to let everyone know that I will continue to accept donations from anyone who could not make it to the event and anyone who would just like to contribute.
As for our "Rapid Fire" tournament...well...it turned into a one game affair. Your 2008 Hoosier Heartland Invitational Champion is...Sergei Chernetsky from the Ukraine, now living in Kokomo, Indiana. He defeated Al Dunham 20-12 in what became a great game for the championship. I must tip my hat off to Al...he played with one of my teams, had no idea who did what, but he managed to play great defense and make some great game time adjustments to stay in the game...a mark of a great coach. Stay tuned, as on Tuesday I will post the game highlights and stats for the championship...
As for photos...please check our photo album soon, as I will have a complete scrap book with highlights soon of the event. Watch this website for updates on the photo album...
In case anyone was wondering, we had seven stations in which the kids went through...and they were...
Station 1-Passing Accuracy
Station 2-Field Goal Accuracy
Station 3-Fastest Man
Station 4-Kickoff Return Challenge
Station 5-Practice Field
Station 6-Looper Challenge
Station 7-Strongest Man
All of the participants...adults included...did a great job in all the events, thanks for taking the time to bring your children and join in the fun. I hope it created some quality bonding time.
If anyone who came to the event found themselves interested in learning more about this hobby...our door is always open and we are looking for more coaches for the upcoming 2008 college season. All you have to do is call me at 574-722-1204 or send me an e-mail at mmmculp@comcast.net

Now taking donations for Invitational raffle!
March 15, 2008
We are one month away from the 2008 Hoosier Heartland Invitational and so today I am begining the raffle to raise money for the Boy Scouts. All moneys raised will go to Boy Scout troop 3203 here in Logansport and is primarily for the purchase of a Pinewood Derby track of their own. For years now they have had to borrow tracks from surrounding counties...I am on a crusade to change all that and with your help we will make our goal.
I think I have put together a great raffle prize and I just want to thank everyone who has donated items for the raffle. The Boy Scouts really need this guys, so please by generous and help us out. The goal is $900 and I will be giving weekly updates to let everyone know how far we are away from the goal.
Here is the Prize Package:
• An $100 gift card to NFL Shop.com
• A Pittsburgh Steeler field cover donated by "Laure" (thanks John)- $80 value
• An MFCA prize package which includes a one year subscription to The Tweak, a MFCA magnet and Pesonalized MFCA Coffee Mug- $50 value
• Al Dunham was volunteered to hand paint a "fantasy" 11 man team of the winner's choice.
• Lynn has donated two special autographed Baseball cards. One is a Pro-set card signed by Jim Harbaugh (Chicago Bears) and the other is a Topps card signed by Jim Kelly (Buffalo Bills)
Raffle tickets are 2 for $5. To make a donation or to purchase raffle tickets, you can either send a check made out in my name or a money order. I wish I had a Paypal account to make it easier, but my experiences with Paypal have not been pleasent. If you are not interested in the raffle and just want to make a donation, then please note it when you send your money...otherwise I will assume all money sent is for the raffle.
Please mail all donations to...

I want to thank everyone in the MFCA community for all that you guys do. This hobby is not only about vibrating fields, strategy and wins/losses...it is a real fellowship and brotherhood...and it is also about charity. I want to also remind everyone, that the Seawall Brawl is also a fundraiser and that makes it much more than just a miniature football tournament to me...it becomes something even more special. Please donate to all charity events within the MFCA community. Thanks and may God Bless all of you...

HHEFL invades the Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby in Logansport!
March 8, 2008
Miniature Football men on a Pinewood Derby Car? It may not seem natural, but it was a lot of fun, as Matthew Culp put together the first ever electric football derby car and although it wasn't fast...it sure was eye catching. It was also there to promote the upcoming Hoosier Heartland Invitational set for April 19th. The tourney will be a fund raiser to help raise money for the local Boy Scouts and to also teach the young men about our hobby. We also hope they will get a different kind of lesson in teamwork...miniature football style! Stay tuned for more updates. We will begining raffles starting next Saturday.
Regular season coming to a close with a bang!
March 3, 2008
Last week brought us closer to the end of the regular season, as another two close games were on tap in the HHEFL. First, on Wednesday the 27th it was the Chicago Bears narrowly defeating the Carolina Panthers again by the final of 28-23. The Panthers wrap up their regular season with a bang, after trailing in this game they come back and come up just short of winning the game. The second game of the week featured a defensive battle from Wavra Stadium. On Friday night the 29th, the Chicago Bears and San Diego Chargers did battle. Friday nite featured the first of two meetings between the Chicago Bears and the San Diego Chargers. It was a marathon-of-a-game with most of the action squeezed into the last half of the final quarter. San Diego returned the opening kickoff 63 yards and struck quickly with a 33 yard TD to #48 on 3rd and 6. After this initial score, the game evolved into a defensive slugfest and a halftime score of 7-0 Chargers. This defensive battle continued through the 3rd quarter, as San Diego picked up a field goal following a blocked Bear's punt. Chargers 10, Bears 0. The Bears running game came to life midway in the 4th, as #29 scored from 45 yards out to make it a 10-6 game. The Chargers offense continued to stall, and the Bears blocked the Chargers punt, recovering at the Chargers 8 yd. line. Two plays later, #29 punched it in, and with the 2pt. conversion, a furious Bears comeback seemed complete at 14-10, with just 2 minutes left. But, hold on, The Chargers still had 3 plays after the kickoff to work with--and they didn't waste any time, as Brees lasered one to #24 for a 64yd. TD. The stunned Bears were not to pull off another last second KO miracle, as Hester was corralled at the 27 yd. line. Final Score: Bears 14, Chargers 17.
Complete stats and highligths of all the last seven game to come, as the 2007 regular season is down to the final two games...stay tuned...
A weekend of barnburners in the HHEFL
February 24, 2008
It was a weekend of tight games, as the 2007 regular season rolls on. On Saturday February 23rd, the Dallas Cowboys had to hold on in a defensive struggle to defeat the Oakland Raiders 7-0. It was a defensive game the entire way, as neither team could get on track and if it wasn't for a blocked punt by the Cowboys with under three minutes to play, then both teams would probably still be dukeing it out. On Sunday the 24th, the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears got busy for the first of two meetings. In the end it was a run back kick by the Chicago Bears that gives them the win by the final of 20-17. Stay tuned for more game stats and highlights as they become available...
February HHEFL session set for 23rd in Kokomo, Indiana
February 14, 2008
Our February HHEFL session will take place Saturday February 23rd at Wavra Stadium in Kokomo, Indiana. A time has not been announced as of yet. Greg Hardmon is the Lord of the Ring, as he wins the 2008 Miggle Championship!
January 28, 2008
It was one of the best conventions ever, as the bus for the 2008 Miggle Convention left the Hoosier state early Friday morning and returned home Sunday evening following a very enjoyable convention. Matt Wavra, Matt Culp and Tim Young represented the HHEFL in this year's Miggle Convention held in Detroit Michigan. It was all spectacular...the Friday Night Welcome Dinner, the skills competition, the Saturday round robin tournament and the Miggle Championship on Sunday. It was three days of pure fun for everyone there.
Not only did we enjoy great electric football action, but we met coaches from around the country...some for the first time. We also got to witness the game that eveyone has been waiting for and was three years in the making..."The Motor City Beat Down". This game featured the fantasy teams of "The Swamp Moose" coached by Glenn Hardaway from Sugarland, Texas and the "Sasquatches" coached Al Dunham of Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was a great game, as the Swamp Moose hung on to beat the Sasquatch 14-10.
As for the Miggle tournament it was Jimbo Dunagan from Chicago versus Greg Hardmon from Detroit, Michigan. In a tight defensive struggle it was Greg Hardmon who came away with a 7-0 win, in just his first ever convention. Congratualtions from the HHEFL
A special thanks must be given to Michael and Delayne Landsman, who once again put on a spectacular convention and once again showed their kindness towards all of us. Thank you for this yearly "reunion"...it is a very special event.
And one final thank you to some coaches from around the country, who made us feel welcome and made the weekend very special...thank you Corey Johnson, Will Travers, Frank Johnson, Jimbo Dunagan, John DiCarlo, Joe Allore, Cleon Tate, Mike Turner, Bryan Nutt, "Greenbay Glenn", Ray Fanera, Mark Francis, Mike Guttman, Ron Bell, Ronnie Bradley, "Hightower", Jim Jackson, Norber Revels, Jim Davis, Greg Hardmon, Steve Miles, Dwayne Jennings, Al Dunham and Edgar Downs just to name a few. It is guys like you that make this hobby more than just a game...all you guys make it into a family and the HHEFL thanks you!
A complete photo run down of the convention, will be available next week on this site in our photo album section...be sure to check it out...
The HHEFL is proud to announce the inaugural 2008 Hoosier Heartland Invitational
January 18, 2008
I am proud to announce the Inaugural 2008 Hoosier Heartland Invitational-benefitting the Boy Scouts of America
When: April 19, 2008 9am-9pm
Where: Ramada Inn Logansport, Indiana
It is with great pride that I announce the first miniature football tournament in Indiana in 2008. The hobby of Miniature Football has the Seawall Brawl, The Texas Shootout, Buzzfest, The Miggle Convention, The Bama Blast, The Columbus Day Bash just to name a few…joining the list for the first time is the 2008 Hoosier Heartland Invitational…a tournament designed to raise money for the Boy Scouts of America and bring coaches together from around the Mid-West for some great tournament action. The one day event will be held at the Ramada Inn in Logansport, Indiana in their Grand Ball Room and is open to all coaches of all different skill levels.
I have been working on this tournament idea for over a year now and now it has become a reality. The moneys raised during this event will go towards purchasing a Pine Wood Derby track for Logansport Boy Scout Troop 3203 ($750 is the goal). We plan on having several raffles during the one day event, including raffling off several miniature football items donated from the MFCA community, as well as, from local businesses. I am also not asking for any fees to enter the tournament, however I am suggesting a $25-$30 donation to the Boy Scouts fund, but it is not going to be a requirement. Trophies will be provided for the Tournament Champion, Runner-up and other categories to be announced later.
The Event Schedule
As for the days’ events…it is going to an event never seen before. We are going to have three troops from the local area accompanied by a parent…total of 65-70 Scouts in all. Here is the general schedule:
9am: Invitational Opens
9am-10:30am: First group of 35 Boy Scouts will make their way through the seminars and skills competitions on miniature football. Volunteer coaches are going to man 10 stations in which each Scout will learn one aspect of football and miniature football at the same time. Each Scout will receive a special patch for the event, complimentary TTQB, players, bases and awards earned.
10:30-Noon: Second group of 35 Boy Scouts will make their way through just as the first group.
12:15-6pm: Time for the “Big Kids” to play. Hoosier Heartland Invitational Tournament begins with “round robin” type rounds to determine who will play in the Championship game. Rules and format to be provide soon, however the general format will be HHEFL rules, you will play everyone at the tourney and a point system will determine top two coaches for the championship. The Championship game will be a timed game and a referee will be provided. We are working to get the local radio station to cover the event.
6pm-8:30pm: HHI Championship Game.
8:30pm-9pm: Trophy Presentations and Invitational closing.
Special hotel rates of $79 per night have been arranged for those coming from out of town. To make reservations you just need to call the Ramada Inn at 574-753-6351 and ask for the special rate for April 19th.
To register for the event you can call me at 574-722-1204 or e-mail at mmmculp@comcast.net
Several tables will also be opened up during the Boy Scout event for coaches to just come and play and demonstrate the hobby to the public.

Superbowl XXV will be played in May 2009, so stay tuned throughout the year, as we grow closer to the begining of the 25th season!
End of December brings seven HHEFL games and the heart of the 2007 season...
December 31, 2007
The end of December brings seven unforgetable games, as the heart of the 2007 season takes place over the course of eight days. From December 21st to December 29th, it was a great vacation for everybody, as the HHEFL 2007 season rolled on in a big way, especially with all the action on December 23rd in Elkhart, Indiana. For detailed, play by play, highlights and all the stats from all seven games...click on the "game result" section on this website and then click on the game of your choice, to review all the highlights and stats. Here is a brief summary from each game...as only seven games remain in the 2007 HHEFL regular season, with the playoffs and Superbowl scheduled for sometime in February. Stay tuned for further HHEFL sessions and now to the Highlights...
December 21, 2007 Kokomo, Indiana Wavra Stadium
Dallas Cowboys 31
Oakland Raiders 8
The Dallas Cowboys enjoyed some big plays on offense, as Tony Romo threw for 234 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead the Cowboys to the win. Anthony Fasano lead the Cowboys with two touchdown receptions. Charlie Garner lead the Raiders with 89 yards receiving.
December 23, 2007 Elkhart, Indiana H.G. Toops Stadium Game 1
Dallas Cowobys 14
Chicago Bears 6
In Adrian Seldon's first game ever in the HHEFL, he gave Matthew Culp and the Dallas Cowboys all they could handle, as the Cowboys had to stop the Bears on a late drive to preserve the win. The Bears had a chance down the stretch with the ball at the Dallas 30 with under a minute to go, but the Bears running game got halted on three straight plays and the Cowboys picked up the win. The Cowboys were lead by Jason Witten with the huge first quarter 63 yard touchdown grab. The Bears were lead by Adrian Peterson, who turned in a 80 yard touchdown run late in the game to bring the Bears back.
December 23, 2007 Elkhart, Indiana H.G. Toops Stadium Game 2
Oakland Raiders 20
Carolina Panthers 0
The Raiders defense had a great game, as they held the Panthers to 179 total yards and if you take away Brad Hoover's returns, the number goes down to 17 yards for the game. Meanwhile, Tory James had another big game with 42 yard rushing and Tim Brown added 3 catches for 78 yards and 1 touchdown to pace the Raiders offense for the win.
December 23, 2007 Elkhart, Indiana H.G. Toops Stadium Game 3
Carolina Panthers 6
San Diego Chargers 8
All the scoring in this game took place in the first quarter, when DeShaun Foster broke a 58 yard touchdown run and Lorenzo Neal finished a drive with an 11 yard touchdown run. However, the excitement did not end there, as the Panthers got a late drive for a chance to win, but it fell short and the Chargers remain unbeaten.
December 23, 2007 Elkhart, Indiana H.G. Toops Stadium Game 4
Oakland Raiders 27
Chicago Bears 6
On this day the Raiders special teams was clicking, as Jerry Rice returned two kickoffs for 105 yards and two punts for 109 yards-for a grand total of 214 yards. The return yardage proved to be the difference, as it set up short drives for scores. The Bears remained in this game until the fourth, but a key Bill Romanski interception of Rex Grossman at the goal line sealed the game for the Raiders.
December 29, 2007 Kokomo, Indiana Wavra Stadium Game 1
San Diego Chargers 12
Oakland Raiders 7
Sergei Chernetsky and his Oakland Raiders had never beaten Matt Wavra and his Chargers...but on this day he nearly had him, as the Chargers have to rally from a 7-6 deficit and score late for the come from behind victory.
December 29, 2007 Kokomo, Indiana Wavra Stadium Game 2
San Diego Chargers 3
Dallas Cowboys 14
How the Cowboys won this game is still a mystery, but great defense and an 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown are the difference, as the Cowboys and Chargers are now both 5-1 in the HHEFL.
Stay tuned for more highlights and don't forget to check out our photo album section for photos from these sessions!

Carolina Panthers 20
Dallas Cowboys 28
First Half
Oh what a game this was! And if you like offense, then this gem of a game was for you. Dallas received the opening kickoff and got things rolling early. Following a 37 yard kickoff return by Terry Glenn, the Cowboys mixed up the running and passing game to move the ball down the field. Jason Witten had a 23 yard reception and Terry Glenn got a big run for a reverse that setup the games first touchdown...a 12 yard touchdown run by Julius Jones. The drive went 63 yards in 9 plays and used up most of the first quarter. The Panthers first drive started at their own 14, following a 14 yard kickoff return by DeShaun Foster. The first play from scrimmage for the Panthers was huge, as DeShaun Foster broke a beautiful running play off right tackle, as he ran down the sidelines before getting knocked out of bounds at the Dallas 42...a 44 yard run. However, the Panthers would get pushed back from there and they soon faced a 4th and 15. The Panthers went for it at midfield, as the pass play to Smith only netted 8 yards and the Panthers turned it over on downs. The Cowboys offense then took over again for another long drive. This time it was again another 9 play drive to pay dirt. Lead by a 13 yard run by Julius Jones and a 20 yard pass to Jason Witten, Tony Romo and Patrick Crayton finished the drive with a huge 23 yard touchdown pass over the outstretched hands of Julius Peppers. The extra point was good and it was 14-0 Dallas late in the second quarter. But back came Carolina. With time running out the Panthers got two huge pass plays from Jake Delhomme. First, he hit Steve Smith across the middle for an incredible completion...he scrambled all the way to the Dallas 36 yard line. With only one play left in the half, the Panthers then opted not to go for the field goal down 14-0...it was the right deceision. On the halves final play Jake Delhomme hit DeShaun Foster down field at the Dallas 25...he then...somehow...and I do mean somehow...he somehow eluded Roy Williams and Terrence Newman, as he got by them for an exciting touchdown. It was 14-7 at halftime.
Second Half
The Panthers got the ball to start the second half...little did anyone know that they were about to make history. Following an 11 yard kickoff return and three straight plays for negative yardage, the Panthers found themselves at their own 3 yard line facing a 4th and 18. The Panthers were playing to win this game...Punt is not in their vocabulary on this day and to the amazement of all...they went for it...sound familiar Sergei! The Cowboys had them right where they wanted them right...wrong...Delhomme took the ball in the endzone and the Cowboys brought the house...somehow Greg Ellis and Terrence Newman went right behind Delhomme, giving him time to pass and pass he did. He hit Foster in the flat and it was off to the races. Foster out ran Williams for a huge 97 yard touchdown and the Panthers bench, including Tim Young, was going nuts! Following the extra point it was tied at 14 and Carolina had 14 unanswered points. However, back came Dallas and again it was another time consuming drive that ended in a touchdown. Terry Glenn returned the Carolina kickoff 53 yards setting up a short field for Dallas. 6 plays later and on the final play of the third quarter, Tony Romo hit Terry Glenn for a 20 yard touchdown and it was 21-14 Dallas going into the fourth. The Dallas lead would not last long, as back came Carolina. On the next drive, facing a 3rd and 17, Jake Delhomme did it again as he hit Keary Colbert for a short pass. It appeared that DeMarcus Ware was in position to make the stop, but Colbert was able to slide away from his tackle...87 yards later the Panthers had their third touchdown pass of the game. This time the extra point was no good and Dallas maintained a 21-20 lead. Back came Dallas again. Terry Glenn came up big again on special teams. He returned the next kickoff for 58 yards (he had 148 yards on kickoffs for the game). Dallas then went into keep away mode, as they again drove the ball. This time it was a 7 play drive with Julius Jones finishing off the drive with a 3 yard plunge for a touchdown. Down by 8, Carolina was down to their last two plays of the game. The first sack of the game could not have come at a better time for the Cowboys, as #56 Bradie James finally got to Delhomme. The final play was a desperation short pass to Hoover, who got wrapped up to end the game...
What a game it was! For Carolina their passing game went to new heights, as Delhommme finished 8 for 11 for 280 yards and 3 touchdowns. For Dallas it was a balanced attack...100 yard rushing, 113 yard receiving and 148 yards in special teams. Your players of the game...for Carolina it was DeShaun Foster with 127 yards receiving, 19 rushing, 25 returning kickoffs for a grand total of 171 yards. For Dallas it was Terry Glenn with 13 yards rushing, 20 yards receiveing and 148 yards in kickoff returns for a total of 181 yards. It was a tremendous game!

Special teams is the difference, as San Diego defeats Dallas in a defensive struggle.
November 19, 2007
The San Diego Chargers, coached by Matt Wavra, are 3-0 and although it was not pretty, they will take the win anyway they can get it,as their special teams had two big plays that gave them the win over defending HHEFL Champion Matthew Culp and his Dallas Cowboys. The Chargers were out rushed, out passed and never got going offensively, but two blocked punts lead to 10 points for the Chargers and with their tough defense that was just enough. To the Highlights we go...

San Diego Chargers 16
First Half
The Dallas Cowboys and the San Diego Chargers matched up in the season's first game between two unbeaten teams. The Cowboys won the toss and got the ball first. Starting at their own 20 yard line, the Cowboys got off to a quick start when Marion Barber broke the games opening run for 10 yards and a first down. From there on it was all down hill. On the Cowboys next play they threw a swing pass to Barber, which got stopped for a 5 yard loss. Then on 2nd and 15 the Cowboys attempted a sweep to #39 Lousaka Polite, who fumbled the exchange and ended up losing 19 yards back to the Cowboys 6 yard line. On 3rd and 24 the Cowboys got a minimal gain and were forced to punt. On fourth down the Chargers got a huge rush on the Cowboys punter Nick Folk...the punt was partial blocked and the Chargers took over at the Dallas 15 yard line.San Diego opened their first series with two straight runs to Tomlinson, which went for -8 yards. Drew Brees did complete a pass to Tomlinson for 10 yards on 3rd down, however the Cowboys held and #10 Nate Kaeding came on and nailed a short 35 yard field goal and it was 3-0 Chargers. The Cowboys second drive was just as successful as the first. Following a 45 yard kickoff return by #41 Newman, the Cowboys started at mid-field. Again the Cowboys running game was ineffective. Dallas quickly found themselves with a 4th and 13 at their own 42. The Cowboys elected to go for it, but only managed to get the ball to mid-field, as they turned it over on downs. However, the Chargers could do little with the ball either and following a Greg Ellis sack of Brees, the Chargers turned the ball over on downs. Dallas, this time, managed to get the ball down to the San Diego 35 yard line, however the Chargers defense held and forced a 4th and 2. Coach Culp elected to go for it, as Tony Romo did a quarterback keeper, only to come up centimeters short (we had a measurement) and again...a turnover on downs. From their own 34 yard line, the Chargers would only march backwards on their next drive. On 4th and 14 they went for it and Drew Brees got sacked for the second time in he game, this time by #29 Keith Davis. With time running out in the half, the Cowboys took full advantage of the situaton and went to desperate measures. #94 Linebacker DeMarcus Ware checked in as an eligible receiver...and that would be huge, as Tony Romo bought some time and hit him in the endzone for a 31 yard touchdown and it was amazingly 7-3 Dallas at halftime...
Second Half
It must be said, that San Diego never punted in this game. The second half opened with a bang for the Chargers. LaDainian Tomlinson returned the opening kickoff 66 yards all the way down to the Dallas 34 yard line...the crowd was going nuts in San Diego! But that excitement would soon be silenced, as the Chargers ran four straight plays for negative yardage and they turned the ball over on downs at their own 46 following a 4th and 30 play. The defenses continued to dominate throughout the third quarter. Dallas was sacked twice on the next drive, both times by#42 Clinton Hart. Dallas, facing a 4th and 34 deceided to punt...a deceision that cost ultimately cost them the game. On the punt, #53 Steve Foley broke threw the line and got to Folk just in time to block the second punt of the day...it was doomsday for Dallas. The result of the play was a first down for the Chargers at the Dallas 15 yard line with the third quarter winding down. San Diego managed three short running plays, as the fourth quarter began it was 4th and 3 at the Dallas 8 yard line. The first play of the fourth quarter was the big one, as LaDainian Tomlinson broke a 8 yard touchdown run to make it 9-7 San Diego. The Chargers went for two points on the conversion, but Tomlinson was pushed out short of the goal line and the score remained 9-7. The Cowboys, down by 2, now needed a drive to get back the lead, however the Chargers had other plans. The Cowboys next drive would be a marathon, as Marion Barber and #21 Julius Jones got short runs and passes to get the ball out to mid-field...but the Chargers defense simply bent and never broke. The 10 play drive finally came to a crucial point, when Dallas was faced with a 4th and 12 at the Dallas 48. With time running out, the play of the game came down to a roll out pass to Romo...he was pressured and with no one open looked to make a play, but it was #58 Randell Godfrey who picked off Romo and returned it 55 yards for the game sealing score and it was pandemonia in San Diego. The interception made no difference, as an incomplete pass would have just allowed the Chargers to run out the clock...but the Cowboys still had life. Trailing 16-7, the Cowboys came back. With time running out, Romo hit #81 T.O. for a 47 yard gain to get the ball all the way down to the San Diego 6 yard line. However, the four play drive used up the remaining time. The final play of the game was a high pass into the endzone...to DeMarcus Ware...who could not bring the ball down and the game was over...
This game is an example of how you can win with no offense, great defense and special teams play. The Chargers finished with -13 yards rushing, -1 yards receiveing, 1 first down and 90 total yards. The Cowboys in a losing effort, finished with 14 rushing yards, 78 passing yards, 6 first downs and 189 total yards. Time of possesion favored the Cowboys with 34 plays versus 22, but it was the Chargers who get the win. Players of the game...for San Diego #42 Clinton Hart, who had 3 sacks of Romo...for Dallas it was Tony Romo who went 8 for 13 for 106 yards and 1 TD and one big INT...

Chargers defeat Raiders in a Thursday Night HHEFL matchup!
October 25, 2007
The HHEFL was in action tonight, October 25th, as Matt Wavra's San Diego Chargers hosted Sergei Chernetsky's Oakland Raiders, in a rematch of arch rivals. In a defensive game, it was the San Diego Chargers winning their second straight game, by shutting out their opponent and getting just enough offense to get the job done. To the Highlights we go....
October 25, 2007 6:30PM Wavra Stadium Kokomo, Indiana
Oakland Raiders 0
San Diego Chargers 17
First Half
Charger fans were pumped for their first home game of the 2007 season. Game #4 of the 2007 HHEFL Pro-season featured a Thursday nite prime-time showdown with their hated rivals the Oakland Raiders. The Chargers used a grinding rushing attack combined with a stingy cover-2 D to clamp down on their arch enemy for their second shutout of the season. The Raiders won the toss and deferred. The ensuing touchback led to a 13 play, 80 yd. drive (12 runs/1 pass) finished off by LT taking it 23 yds. off left guard for the TD. The 2 pt. conversion was good (Brees run) and the Raiders were in the hole 8-0 and the crowd was going nuts early in the 2nd quarter. Not to be out done, the Oakland Raiders started off at their 25 yd. line and, using the short pass, moved the ball out to their 44 yd. line. Fortunately for SD, Gannon's, 4th down pass flew to the left of his receiver, and SD took over with little time left in the half. SD's coach Wavra had had enough for one half, so with all 3 TOs remaining, ran deceided to take a neal down on play #12, as the last play of the half in a spread formation, and the Raiders got a little pay-back as they sacked Brees before he could get the throw off.
Second Half
The Charger girls put on some halftime show as both teams regrouped in the locker rooms. The second half opened with a touchback on the kickoff, and Oakland took over at it's own 20. The Charger "D" had no intention of backing down, and continued to use the cover 2 to their advantage. Oakland continued to gamble on 4th down. Oakland rolled the dice ("Just Win, Baby, Win!"...) on 4th and 6 from their own 24, the result...San Diego responded with a sack of Gannon. 2 plays later, it was LT again for the TD, from 17 yds. out. The 2 pt. conversion failed (Brees stopped short of goal line). At this point, with Oakland down 14-0 midway through the 3rd, both "D"s took over, as Oakland and SD traded possessions. Oakland's offense was definitely demoralized by the stingy SD pass defense, as the sacks started piling up against Oakland. At game's end, SD took a cheap 13 yd. FG (with all 3 TO's remaining) to end the game at 17-0.
Coach Chernetsky's Post-Game comment was: "60% of the time, it works." Your leading rusher for the game was LaDanian Tomlinson, who finished with 74 yards, on 9 carries and scored both San Diego touchdowns (complete game stats are not yet available). The numbers tell the tale...it was all defense. Oakland finished with -2 yards rushing, 17 passing, 25 yards on KOR for a total of just 40 yards. Meanwhile, the Chargers did not fair much better, however the running game was the difference. They finished with 113 yards rushing, -10 passing for a total output of 103 yards. Oakland gave up 7 sacks to San Diego's 1. Tough loss for the Raiders, as they fall to 0-2, while the Chargers improve to 2-0.
All stats will be available soon in the Game Result section of this website, as well as, each individual coaches performance.
Stay tuned for more HHEFL action, as the 2007 season rolls on.
HHEFL October Session Highlights and Jimbo's Big 10 Challenge results.
October 21, 2007
What a Saturday it was! On Saturday October 20th the HHEFL got league action underway, as Tim Young, playing in just his third game ever, took his Panthers up to Oakland to face Sergei Chernetsky and his Raiders. It was easily the most exciting game of the entire season. As a special bonus, Jimbo Dunagan and his Illinois Illini visited the HHEFL for two exhibition games, as he took on Matt Wavra and his Indiana Hoosiers. Then he faced Matt Culp and his Penn State Nittany Lions in the night cap. To all the Highlights we go....
October 20, 2007 9am Wavra Stadium-Kokomo, Indiana
Carolina Panthers 26
Oakland Raiders 20
First Half
Tim Young had two goals coming into his third game ever played...score a touchdown and get a first down. Well, it did not take long for his first wish to come true. Oakland opened the game by kicking off to Carolina and the Panthers opened the game with a big play. #45 Brad Hoover received the kickoff in the endzone and got two big blocks and then dodged two defenders at midfield to scramble 100 yards for the Panthers first ever touchdown. Just 7 seconds into the game, the Panthers had their first lead ever. It was jubilation on the Panthers sideline. However, the Panthers extra point was blocked and the Panthers lead 6-0. The Oakland Raiders, a little shell shocked, came right back to answer. Rich Gannon lead them on the following drive on a 5 play 65 yard drive to pay dirt, as Tory James #20 broke a 32 yard touchdown run to tie the game at 6 with 12:00 to play in the first quarter. Unfortunately for the Raiders, their extra point was blocked and the game remained tied at 6. The remainder of the first quarter belonged to the defenses. Carolina's next drive went three and out forcing a punt. Oakland got the ball at midfield, but likewise went 4 and out and turned the ball over on downs. Carolina, likewise returned the favor turning the ball over on downs on their next possession, then to start the second quarter, Oakland again turned the ball over on 4 straight plays. Neither team wanted to punt, but that is when Carolina finally broke the game open. With no success passing, the Panthers turned to Jake Delhomme for some magic and he delivered. With 7:05 to play in the half, he broke a 43 yard touchdown run on a quarterback sneak and then added another QB sneak for the two point conversion to make it 14-6. Oakland then gambled on their next drive. Quickly facing a 4 and 7, the Raiders went for the first at their own 26 yard line. Julius Peppers came up big on that play, as he sacked Rich Gannon for a 5 yard loss and the Raiders turned the ball over on downs. Delhomme would make them pay. Just two plays later he broke another QB sneak for a 26 yard touchdown to make it 20-6, as the Panthers failed to convert the two point conversion. The Raiders answered late in the half, as Rich Gannon hit three big passes to get them to the Panther 31, but the half would end on a bad note for the Raiders, as Sebastian Janikowski attempted a 48 yard field goal that got blocked by #93 Mike Rucker and the Panthers went into halftime with the lead.
Second Half
The Raiders came out in the third quarter very focused and made the comeback. They opened up the second half with a 12 play, 92 yard, 11 minute 22 second drive for a touchdown. Rich Gannon was on fire, as he hit Tory James #20 for a 16 yard touchdown to make it 20-12. The 2point conversion failed, but the Raiders had the mometum with 3:38 to go in the third quarter. Carolina could do nothing on offense and the final play of the quarter was a failed 4 and 4 attempt that gave the Raiders the ball at the Carolina 39 yard line. The Raiders wasted no time as the fourth started. Gannon hit #86 Roland Williams for a 30 yard gain, then with 10:55 to go in the fourth, #20 Tory James ran one in for a touchdown from 2 yards out...the 2 point conversion was good and the score was tied at 20. It continued to look hopeless for Carolina. The Panthers went three and out and were forced to punt. Jerry Rice then returned the punt 30 yards to the Panther 36 yard line. It was here that the game was deceided. The Panther defense came alive...the sacked Gannon for a big loss after two incomplete passes. Then on fourth down, Janakowski came on for another field goal attempt...this time from 58 yards...his kick went up...and was blocked by Brad Hoover. The Panthers took over and needed just one play. It was #26 DeShaun Foster who would get the play of the game, as he broke it up the middle for a 48 yard touchdown run with 3:56 to play and it was 26-20 Panthers. However, the Raiders still had hope, as the 2 point conversion failed. So the stage was set for the Raiders following a 24 yard kickoff return. Gannon went to work, completing his first three passes, as they drove the field with time winding down. The big pass was to Jerry Rice, who hauled in a 24 yard reception to get them to the Panthers 13 yard line with under a minute to go. The Panthers defense stiffened, but Rice caught one to get the ball to the 5 yard line. With :32 left, the Raiders tried a run by James...nothing...timeout with :11 to go. It was 4th and 2 at the Carolina 5 yard line...final play for the Raiders...Gannon rolled out, as the Panthers brought the pressure, but Tory James got open in the endzone...Gannon hesitated and in that hesitation the timing was thrown off...his pass sailed over the out reached hands of James and the Panthers sealed their first ever win!
What a games it was and the stats are mis-leading to say the least. For Oakland they finished with 12 first downs, 427 total yards, 14 for 30 passing for 258 yards and had the ball for 52 plays in a losing effort. Compare that with Carolina who finished with 2 first downs, 232 total yards, 0 for 4 passing and had the ball for just 33 plays and you are left scratching your head...the difference...special teams. Two blocked field goals and a kickoff return for a touchdown was the difference. Player of the game...Brad Hoover of Carolina...a blocked field goal and touchdown return. Congrats to Tim Young on a great game played! And congrats to Sergei for one hell of an effort for the comeback...
